We purchased a property in the Languedoc last year and concur that the economic conditions are depressed/or flat. The economic outlook for the UK for the next few years in my view will be far worse. Rent out your present property and try and make a living in France. If it works great - if it doesn’t put it down to experience. PS I am a joiner, plaster, manager, sales assistant……… is ancient history. Look at every opportunity.

And a few will be shocked that you can fit a kitchen for less than 100k. You will almost certainly find that a major renovation completed to a high modern standard will cost considerably more than a similar new build.

You want to leave your own country, and live in someone elses. you should be prepared to integrate completely if required, that should include language, religion etc etc. Is this a windup?  Your comment will no doubt receive widespread acceptance in some of the less enlightened areas of the world such as Saudi, Afghanistan, Barking, and Texas. I for one as an individual have no wish to conform to anyones ideal, and I am secure enough not to need anyone to have to conform to mine.  

For our last few trips we have used the 8.00 pm ferry, and breeze through Paris at about 2.00 am.

Thanks for your advice and kind offer. Unfortunately we are in 34. I will take a brochure/installers manual with me on our next visit and see if a heating company will install and certify. Failing that I will at least have a specification for local suppliers to quote against. A quick scan of the Leroy Merlin web page is showing prices about double what is available in the UK.

Hi I spoke to them without getting any help - they seem to operate different brands for each country. As to the brand I am open.   I suspect that I can source a boiler more cheaply in the UK especially with my two words of French.

Hi   Is it possible to purchase a new gas boiler in the UK and to have it fitted in France?   I have identified the Worchester 550CDI as suitable.   If this is not possible I will be grateful for any recommendations as to make, model, and supplier.       Many thanks.

It is easier to list the things that are better quality/cheaper in France. Wine, bread, meat, fruit/veg, cheese, most building materials (transport costs too high), and fuel. Everything else is purchased and brought over. 

The house is at the edge of town in a wine growing area. I suspect that a local garage or tyre shop is looking to avoid dumping charges.

Hi   Has anyone any experience of fly tipping and the actions that should be taken. We have just returned and found that while we were away about 50 used tyres were staked inside our garden fence.   Many thanks for any advice you may have.

Not much of an option as I want to totally and clearly state that I do not support any of parties and that they are not acting in my name.    

Russethouse   In a true democracy we the people would vote on every important issue. The option in not taking part is just as important as saying yes or no.   Selecting from a list of imbeciles, and sycophants to represent us is neither democratic nor required.     I could agree with you if  'none of the above' was an option and if it obtained the largest vote the seat remained unoccupied and voted by proxy as a nay against any government vote.  

My prediction is as follows: The three main parties will gain less than 45% of the potential eligible votes. The economy will continue to tank at broadly the same rate as the debt grows. The next election will be in less than two years. The whole country is still in denial and not ready to vote for the medicine that is required. I will not vote for any of these third rate cretins but am free to man the barricades most weekends.
