  2. Hi all, Sorry just realised I can't do duplicate post. Mel.
  3. Hi all, This is a question prompted by Daft Doctors question RE: "Post and Packing" (in earning a living) We will soon be doing our 1st Return under the AE system for our Chambres D'Hotes and wondered what to declare ?? As with his question......... Do we declare our Gross income, i.e. What we charge per room or do we deduct our "costs" i.e cost of breakfast, washing electricity etc. before we declare ?? Hope this is not a stupid question and will post it under the Chambres D'Hotes section too. Thank you for any information or peoples experience of this. Kind Regards Mel.
  4. Hi all, We have just received our registration and Siret number from INSEE after joining the AE sysytem with our Chambres D'Hotes. We're just awaiting to hear from RSI now. We have opted to pay Taxes and Cotisations on a quarterly basis. (going to do it on-line) What we're confused about is that we've received a "pack" from a company called "GROUPE MORNAY" with a whole load of info in about pensions, insurances, disability etc. etc. Loads of figures, calculations etc and it has my Siret number on the info. It looks like some kind of "advertising" to join their company but am not sure what it really is or if its relevant to our AE. Even translating it doesn't really give me any more clue's as my french is still only just passable. Before I investigate further, has anyone else recently joined the AE and received similar information and if so, What do I need to do with it ?? CONFUSED !!! Thanks for any information and help. Kind Regards Mel.
  5. HI all, Just wondering if anyone has been on the Velo-Rail at Chauvigny ? We went on the one at Confolens two years ago and had a great day, but wanted to try the Chauvigny one as my sister is coming out to visit next month. Is it a fairly flat route ? Anywhere to buy a drink or snack ? Thanks for any info. Kind Regards Mel.
  6. Well said josid !!! But thanks to all the other forum members that make valued and very helpful posts.......I know people have helped me out no end. Mel.
  7. Hi londoneye, Just wanted to say good luck, all the best for your viewing on Thursday. Best Wishes Mel.
  8. Hi, Thanks for those prompt replies, useful information for us. We will probably have to "suck it and see" in regards to making a living in France with the Chambres D'Hotes, but suspect that what you're saying will be the case. Whether we can put up with this scenario for a long period will have to wait to be seen. But thanks for the replies and if anyone else has any experience of this situation please let us know............especially if its all worked out for you. Kind Regards Mel.
  9. Hello all, We have opened up our Chambres D'Hotes this year and registered with the Mairie and as an AE. Bookings going well so far !! This is our only income at present and our only home so are resident here. We kinda knew it wouldn't keep us afloat all year so will probably have to return to the UK about october time to work over the winter. We are lucky enough to be able to get temporary work for that period in the UK and have family we can stay with. We are declaring our earnings in France via the quarterly AE system. My questions are "What do we do about our earnings in the UK ?" Is there some way we declare this when we come back to France in the spring ? Do we inform the UK tax office and they "automatically" inform the French offices as we're classed as resident in France ? Soooooo many questions sooooo little time. Thanks for any information. Kind Regards Mel.

    pansies

Hello, Could anyone give me a little advice about pansies bought and potted up about a month ago, they are flowering beautifully but have started to get "leggy". We are dead heading by the day but wondered if we cut them back (to stop them getting too "leggy") will they have a "re-burst" of energy and re-flower or not flower again at all ? :-( Thanks for any info. Kind regards Mel.
  13. ECO-GEM !!! Good luck Mel.
  14. P.S. Dexter.............. If you smoke "roll ups" as I do a large supply of "tips and filters" from the pound shop...........costs a fortune over here !! Maybe an idea for someone to supply and sell over here ????? LOL Mel.
  15. Hi all, What great news !!! Would love to see photograh's of him in his new home ?? Good luck to you all. Kind Regards Mel.
  16. Hi Dexter, Anything you think you're going to miss food wise !! We've gradually weaned ourselves off our favourites in the UK. We have found things over here that we like just as much. BUT for me it's "Marmite" and "Tea Bags" !!! Kind Regards Mel.
  17. Hi all, I know that the topic has gone off your original question JeanS, but don't be put off. If you can manage to do it in some shape or form you will reep some kind of rewards from it.......if not too much financially but by getting to meet some fantastic and interesting people. We have started ours this year and although slow to start off with are getting lots of enquiries and bookings now. (although we would always like more !!!) I don't care what anyone says it sure beats an hours journey to work in heaving traffic, and constant hassle from employers. Who can moan about avoiding that !! Many people would consider working from May to October a great way of life...........most people have to work all year round !! I consider that we're in very luxurious position to be able to do this, so keep your chin up and I hope it all goes well for you whatever you decide to do. Good luck to everyone for a FAB season. Best wishes Mel.
  18. Hi all, Just a quick question on this topic..............being a bit thick !! Are the "chippings" everyone refers to "the grey gravel type stuff" ? We need to put another layer on our garden paths which have a thin layer of the "grey gravel" (I don't particularly like them but seems a cheap option) so am interested in the post about costings for this. Thanks. Mel.
  19. Hello again, Been trying to get some clarification on the above issues. As far as I can see in the translation from the French Chambres D'Hotes regulations. It reads that EACH bedroom must have access to a bathrom and toilet. (Art. D. 324-14) I hope this makes some sense of what is a confusing issue. Article 1 "Art. D. 324-13. -- The chambre d'hôte activity mentioned in Article L. 324-3 is the supply of the accommodation for the night and breakfast. It is limited to a maximum of five rooms for a maximum capacity home fifteen people. The hospitality is provided by the owner. "Art. D. 324-14. -- Each guest room must offer access to a bathroom and toilet. It must conform with current regulations in force in the fields of hygiene, safety and sanitation. "At the very least, the accommodation must include supply of household linen. "Art. D. 324-15. -- The declaration of the chambre d'hôte activity for one or more guest rooms under Article L. 324-4 is addressed to the maire of the town of residence and can be made by electronic mail, by registered post or in person at the mairie and it must be acknowledged by the handing over of a receipt. "The declaration states the identity of the person making the declaration and specifies the address of the owner of the chambre d'hôte, the number of rooms available for rental, the maximum number of people likely to be accommodated and the rental period or periods . "Any change concerning the information included in the declaration must be the subject of a new declaration at the mairie. "The maire will provide statistical data concerning the declarations to the préfet of the region, the president of the conseil régional and president of the conseil général every year "The list of chambres d'hôtes houses is available for consultation at the mairie. " Article 2 On publication of this decree, the persons offering one or more chambre d'hôte have until 31 December 2007 to register their activity, in accordance with article L. 324-4 of the Code du tourisme, under the conditions laid down by Article D. 324-15 of the same code. Furthermore, the accommodation offered must conform with the provisions of Articles D. 324-13 and D. 324-14 of the same code by the same date. Best wishes Mel.
  20. Hi, As far as I am aware JeanS, if you let out rooms for B&B each room you let has to have either on-suite facilities or access to it's own allocated bathroom/toilet. It would mean that you would only be able to let out one of your rooms at a time with access to the one bathroom/toilet that you have. I'm sure if the rules are different then you will get other replies from forum members. Otherwise............good luck with your plans I hope they come to fruition for you. Best wishes Mel.
  21. Hi, We have eaten at a couple of the restaurants in Oradour Village. Both were good reasonable food. We have also eaten at "La Vienne" in Confolens. The food is a varied mix of English, French, Indian, Italian etc etc The food was good at lunch time and reasonably priced. The best thing is the Terrace Garden........................lovely setting overlooking the river......very nice. Hope you find somewhere nice. Best wishes Mel.
  22. Hi, As suggested ..................straight in the bin !! At least we're getting lots of other real booking enquiries, and very pleased as this is our first year. Can I just say Thank you to everyone that has answered questions and offered us very helpful and useful advice about our newly opened Chambres D'Hotes in the past year and especially the last few months................I love this forum. :) We both really appreciate it. Kind Regards Mel.
