Is there any alternative to the £10 a day parking charge at Portsmouth docks? If you stay for 6 days its £60, thats way more than airport parking.

As i posted the initial question i feel duty bound to update you all with the fact that i bought a new gas cooker from Darty along with a connecting cable (199euro for the lot) i have installed the cooker and it is working fine. Nothing more than a spanner needed! Thanks for all the feedback, even the scaremongers!

Thanks for all the help. Looking at the websites it looks like if i buy the cooker and a connecting hose i should be able to connect it to a 13kg butane cylinder myself.

I am wanting to replace an ageing cooker that runs from bottled butane with a new one. Are there any special regulations for fitting such cookers or can it be done DIY. What type of connection is used, the current one has a simple screw on connection fitted to the rubber hose.

This has all probably been covered before but i have searched and can't find an answer. I am based on the Sarthe/ Normandy border. I know my equipment will receive BBC1 , 2, ITV etc. because the previous owner left the decoder and satellite when he sold me the house, but i can only get BBC world news and SKY Int news. I am tuned into Astra 2 at about 90% signal, have i not got a strong enough signal or am i a tuned into the wrong satellite? Along with loads of other satellites i notice Astra 1D is an option.

Hi I have just bought a holiday home in Sarthe and when i visited at the weekend for the first time the dish had moved in the wind, i managed to manually move the dish and picked up Hotbird and Astra sats but this only gets me bbc news and sky news, i know the previous owner got bbc 1, 2 itv etc with the same equipment, am i tuning to the wrong sat? any help welcome. Location is 72130, Sarthe.    

Anyone know if portable gas heaters are an economic option for heating part of a house, currently all electric, and are gas cylinders cheaper in France or England?

Hi Does anyone know if there is a website in France where you can view the prices of all properties that change hands, like the ones there are in the UK?. In the UK you can search by town or post code or street and it gives a real insight into the value of property .

Hi I am sure there is the answer for this on this site somewhere but i have looked. What does type 1 , type 2 etc. mean on property adverts, i am assuming it is something to do with size but there must be some science behind it.
