  1. My partner has just become gluten intolerant and I wondered if there was anywhere to buy gluten free bread, pasta etc in the area while we are in Chamberet? thanks
  2. Hi, We use a vet in Treignac for the pet passport return to England, but wondered if there are any 24 hour vets in case if emergency in the area? Thanks
  3. Hi, We have a house in Chamberet and need to find someone who can replace the guttering (it has holes in it) and also fill a small hole in the back wall of the house (where a very small window used to be) which we need exterior plasterboard in and skimming. Please could anyone suggest someone who might be able to to this sort of work? Thanks in advance
  4. Hi Nick Thanks for your reply. Yes we were quoted what you were suggesting. Wow - much more expensive than over here in the UK
  5. HI, We have just had a quote back from a French builder for metal stud partitioning with insulation, plasterboard and skim. Please could anyone give us a guide per m2 for doing this as the price we have had seems incredibly high. Thanks for your help PS If any one can recommend good registered general builders in the Correze, Limousin please let me know. We would need someone who can also manage a project.
  6. Hi I have also been trying to improve my French. Similar to you I did O level french many years ago and ssince then had done a refresher course (a few years ago now). I have also tried the Michel Thomas CDs which are pretty good and am working through the advanced course. I also have the Pimsleur French Intermediate CDs which are fairly simple (maybe look at the advanced I debated which level to start on) but seem to be sinking in, loads of repetition. The only downsde is an American narrator with a really annoying voice. I am also taking one to one lessons with a native french teacher (based in Nice) via webcam/headset which is really helpful and you can book lessons with him when you want them - any time. If you are interested I will PM he website (you can have a couple of trial lessons free). Also there is a book called Twisted doors which is basically a story (with audio CD). The story is written in French with English translation alongside. After each chapter you ar given vocab etc to learn and a quck quiz to see what you have remembered http://www.thetwisteddoors.com/ I have been looking into free resources to take a look at Ma France BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/languages/french/mafrance/ or http://www.fsi-language-courses.com/ Hope this helps
  7. Hi My boyfriend and I used the Motorail to get to and from Narbonne last year. You do get a compartment/couchette just for the two of you (or whatever size of your party - up to 6 in a compartment) they are a bit old and shabby but OK . You have seats which fold into beds and are provide with a sheet and pillow. Each carriage - of a few couchettes has a toilet at each end. It's an expensive way to travel though unless there are 4 or 6 of you as you pay for the couchete rather than per person.
  8. Thanks for all the info. I did ask Barclays about wiring money - but they charge about £20 a time, a French Barclays account is only about £15 a month. I will have to think some more on this
  9. Hi, We are purchasing a house in France to use as a holiday home wth a French mortgage. We have to open a French bank account with thebank that is giving us the mortgage. Please could anyone tell me the best way to pay the mortgage - is there a cheap way to transfer money to the french bank account each month? The only alternative I can think of is to set up a french bank account wih Barclays (who we bank with in the UK) and transfer the money into hat bank account. Thanks for your help
