1. 2 FOOT PASSENGERS -   OUT FRIDAY NIGHT BACK SUNDAY AFRTERNOON: LD LINE  - £ 78.00 (night xing on outward journey and the price includes cost of sleeping on the floor) BF : £ 40 ( 8am xing with seat allocated)   Enough said !
2. I can show you posts where there were more than just one "biker" - by which I mean a member adopting a bike as avatar - replying in support of ferry liners' crazy prices. Must be a coincidence.... What  I am saying is : how much is genuine in the identities of  many of  those partecipating to the forums  ? 1600 posts in less than 2 years for "Sunday Driver" !  That is more than 2  message a day, every day since 2005.
3.   I notice that m/bikes lovers seem to have a preference for  siding not with the consumers but with the "market forces". Look at at those  postings where transport and prices are criticised and you will find someone with a bike as their atavar expressing a word or two of support for the "market forces"... ?!?
4. Well , it looks like BF are waging a competition with LD Lines !!! Look at BF special prices on their website from now till the end of the year: only slightly dear than LD's.  Good on you BF! Will LD now respond ? I have paid £ 134 for car+2 for the May Bank Holiday and will have to travel by night to Le Havre sleeping rather uncomfortably. I I had noticed before I'd jumped...ship and gone with BF without a second thought!   LD lines ...pah!
5. Frederick, I trust  you had the good manners  of not listening to your dvd WITHOUT the aid of earphones  , as I have seen many others do on ships !   danglar
6. Just returned from  the trip that has cost me over 100% more  on the same period last year with LD Lines and I must admit.......there has been ABSOLUTELY no improvement to the passengers to justifiy such a hugh fare increase. Reclyning seat ? Yeah there are ,  but they are also in a place where the light stays permanently on even at night time , where there is a chocolate dispensing  machine  which - being free - is abused by the passengers at all times of night and with the two toilet doors being slammed  almost continuously by the so called  "first class" passengers. What a load of c...p !! Ah and I forgot to mention .... do you remember that  for two years we have being waiting to see what would have become of the space that was opposite the entrance to the duty free shop ?? Well, they have fitted there - the most tranquil of all places on a ship ! -  CABINS !! Would you pay the earth to try and sleep in a cabin with a door on a very very busy corridor ? (I hate to think what would be like in the summer with children running around and shouting and the  beer-bellied   belching, swearing and laughing aloud at-all-hours-drunkurds .

8. I bought a return ticket to Paris from Bernay (27) station when I was  there a fortnight ago and I am due to use it this saturday. The ticket sales person behind the glass told me not to worry about the chosen hours of travel too much because if I missed one train I could always catch the next one w/out a penalty to pay. I was a bit surprised because I had gone there initially  prepared to pay for a full tariff fare in order to gain this extra benefit. But that person , having sold me a cheaper ticket, was telling me that because  I will be  travelling after 10am  I  will be allowed changes on the day ,  "penalty free". It does not seem to be in line with what has been written and being reported here....
9. I smiled reading your message. I am also taking my spare volvo estate (a 240) next week end from London, on a one way journey to l'Eure. I wonder if we are doing it for the same reasons ? If you are new to volvos : well chosen. If you, like me have driven volvos for many a year , you ll know a volvo is for life! Good luck and hope that you do get the lift. Which route do you travel by the way ? danglar
10. Can anybody tell me whether this card is being accepted at petrol stations for out of hours refilling ? It would seem the cheaper option for someone like me who would only keep it for emergencies. CArte mozaic and the likes all have a higher annual fee. Regards all Danglar
11. I was wondering if one could quote me the size of the cabin on this ship. I get the impression they have sockets for laptops to plug in. That would be good. What about a shop that sells newspapers , chocolate (yummy) , wine etc etc ? Also , have LD Line got a policy on cancellation ? If they cancel a crossing there ins't going to be another one until the following day (24 hours), not quite like with PO & BF when you have the the afternoon sailing option still available. This service looks as much risky as Transmanche's in winter. Have they set up a policy of pre-advising passengers when cancellations occurr - and if so , how ? - or are they ready to take on the channel sea whatever the sea force ? I remember calling Transmanche once at midnight, receiving confirmation the 8 am xing was ok, getting up at 4.30am to travel from London to Newhaven to find ...no ship. They had my telephone numbers but clearly the port staff did not care a jota about the passengers ! regards Danglar
12. Report on all other aspects - apart from the price that we all know about...! - would be appreciated. Thanks Danglar P.S. No biased comments please
13. I have bought another car and want to keep my first car here in UK for as long as possibile on the road. Then I will travel over to France and leave it there to replace an old banger. The premium quoted by the french agent is so much cheaper than the temporary cover premium that I wonder whether I can just transfer cover now and use the UK registered car with UK Mot but with the french AGF cover. Would I be in breach of law if I go ahead with this plan ? I d appreciate to hear your opinion. Thanks Danglar P.S. 3rd party f&t by AGF : euro 19 pm 3rd party f&t by the Uk broker: £ 60pm.
14. Wellcome in Normandy. (are we neighbours ?) My installer was a french guy from Pont Audemer and charged me euro 150 for a dish+lnb 2 years ago. I called him at very short notice and he obliged. But perhaps the forfait price he charged was to include an analogue receiver for the french satellite ?! If so, he must have assumed I did not want or need it though he never asked .... So be on the alert. regards Danglar
15.
They should introduce pop over fares - w/e (not just 24hrs!!), 3 days and 5 days Surely most of the beefing in the past was about why should you have to pay more for longer trips? Why not one fare ...
"They should introduce pop over fares - w/e (not just 24hrs!!), 3 days and 5 days" These fares sould be available to registered property owners only, not through Sunday newspaper offers. Nor for bulk travel , by which I mean a coach operator sending over 50 daytrippers wanting to buy cheap beer. Don;t think that by doing so it would through the whole price structure in disarray.
16. What we need is a scheme for us home owners. You are renovating in Calvados and I have to maintain in Eure. You know how important and a times essential it is to just pop over for a w/end. They should introduce pop over fares - w/e (not just 24hrs!!), 3 days and 5 days - but for registered home owners only, me thinks. They should introduce bulk buying, like P&O used to: 8/10 returns at a time for a large discount. Good luck and regards Danglar
17. Thank you Eslier for the very informative posting. Winter months crossings are essential for the property owner so I hope something will be sorted before December. I have read in another posting that the Grimaldi Ferries have shown an unofficial interest... I have had a look at their website and their ships are certainly better than those wrecks Transmanche are currently operating and which were in service on the Sardinia/Corsica route decades ago. And Grimaldi Ferries would offer a culinary experience far superior to that availabale on anyone ship on anyone route b/w France & UK. Those who have met me will know why I am so enthusiastic at the idea. Regards Danglar
18. I have travelled PO/LH with P&O for the past 10 year. My my son has kinda grown up on those ships. He knows every corner. I do not travel just 2 or 3 times a year but at least one week end a month and some longer periods 3 to 4 times a year. I will miss PO/LH/PO greatly. How many times I found in January that whilst BF were cancelling their sailing on top of their scheduled cancellations becuase of the weather, PO were always there to take me across! My property is only 49km from Le Havre , 30minutes drive. Nothing can be more comfy than 1hr drive to Portsmouth ,5 1/2 hrs of relax, 30 minutes drive to ...my french home. Not even the £40 e/w of Speedferry will reduce the pain of this loss. Danglar
19. I notice a certain resignation in this forum with regards to the termination of the route PO/LH once P&O pulls out in September. For those who might not realise it yet this is a disaster. I too have hoped thus far that someone else would have stepped in P&O's shoes; but there have been no announcements. No feedback from the online petition to the french authorities, no news from Speedferry and , instead, there has been a steady but sure "pirateous" hike in fares by BF. Plus: no flights to Caen , none to Beauvais from London, no flights to Rouen (Boos) and not even the Euroline coach service London/Rouen is there any longer. Dieppe ? in the hands of a very unreliable operator like Transmanche in the winter it is like there were no service at all! Owners of property/ies in the Depts 27/76 can we not come up with something to relieve the pain ? Danglar

21. Instead, I think it is an encomiable initiative. It looks very much like being on the same lines as the french website Allostop which I understand  has been successfully working for a number of years. If - I say "if" becuase I still hope someone will turn up to save us all - Portsmouth/LeHavre  terminates in September and if none of the cheap airlines re establish the routes to Caen and  Boose , sharing a car and the costs of petrol will represent an alternative way of travel to France for established house owners. Brittany Ferries seem to have chosen to go on a suicidal journey, like  P&O did,  by charging the earth  for the past 2 years to travel to Caen,  often with a reduced service (like they have during the winter for example). regards all. 22. www.maison-rene.co.uk/weather.htm for a link to a weather site that gives the the forecast for the next 5 days. hopes it helps
23. This re inforces the case that there should be no winter lettings. I have seen recently an increase of postings in the Autumn from people seeking long lets and advertising on the forum. I wonder... If badly intentioned they may be mistaken in assuming they can take possession of a furnished property, but they can still cause anxiety and problems to us owners. Want to move to France and start looking for a house whilst living there? Get yourself into a B&B. They are cheaper and more comfy than those in England but back off my property, I'd say.
24. Yes, this is a problem with the UK insurers. No risk taken for cars over 11years old.  When I was searching cover for my volvo in the past I did  not see anything for cars up to 15 years of age. RAC used to - if I am not wrong - but loaded the premium considerably.  However I  joined  MORE TH>N last year on the basis that  they do no apply age limits for european breakdown. Check it up. Alternatively - and as you say you are a house owner - link the car to your household french insurance and the cover will automatically include - at no extra cost - vehicle breakdown , EVEN IF THE VEHICLE IS UK REGISTERED! When  you want to save money and trouble,  the first place to search is ALWAYS in Europe! Good luck. Danglar
25.
Miki, I agree with you. Apart from the Barfleur, which was built as a freight ferry so didn't have the same facilities as the other ships (and is better now) the only indifferent Brittany Ferries meal...
This is very interesting, Will. Tell us a bit more of what you know about this experimental trip to Rouen , please ? All the way there by ship from Portsmouth ? The same ship that makes the xing to Caen ? How many hours did it take or is it expected to take from A to B? Can't wait to read on the subject. regards
