1.
I thought the idea was for everybody to 'see and be seen' - personally I think drivers should use their lights far more than they do, earlier in the evening, in poor weather etc and pedestrians too should really be encouraged to 'wear something light' at night. Several times people in grey or dark clothing have just stepped or stumbled into the road in front of me (are they mad ?) at dusk, or at night.
Problem is that most modern japanese machines accelerate faster than an average forumla One car, except they are offenly riden by guys who are not spatially aware...happens when you hit 50 years old!! All well and good this theory, the headlights being on, only problem is, they arrive very quickly if breaking the speed limits!! I have ridden bikes all of my life, had two major accidents (off-road and my own stupid fault) most lads on the road are sensible are adhere to the laws of the land, the problem is,lights or no lights, when they take a risk and it does' not pay off, someone will get hurt, not me though i am in a metal shell called a Renault. Lets start a petition that all pedestrians must wear flouresant clothing eh?
2. If nothing else spend ten minutes and register your details with OFCOM for the lifetime license with your UK address??? and the its safe at least for the next 5 years... Post edited by a moderator
3.
No need to rub it in guys [:'(]  Even though I've been inactive I've always kept my licence up and have had the annual validations sent to my previous UK and according to Ofcom's site: "If you already hold a valid annual licence (i.e. you are an existing licensee) you will automatically receive a new lifetime licence by post free of charge. It is intended that you will receive your replacement lifetime licence a few weeks before your old (annual) licence is due to expire. You will not be required to pay for this new licence." The thing is I don't recall getting that so I was trying to find out what I needed to do to get this HAREC thing and I have to say that I found Ofcom's site rather confusing. I have still got my C&G RAE pass certificate from way back in 1973 and as far as I know I'm still in the RSGB callbook, maybe someone who has access to that could confirm it for me, plus as I say my licence was current up to Aug 2007. I will contact Ofcom after the weekend and see what I need to do. Ernie G8HOR
Ernie, i was not taking the p~~s, best bet is just phone OFCOM give them your UK address for receipt of the HAREC (they will not send it to France) once you have this attach it with the application from, proof of address in France for at least 3 months (edf/france telecom bill) and the €46 and your away, be prepared to wait though, if i were you i would get it done sonner rather than later, come the summer holidays it will take forever to get the damn thing processed Good luck, see you on the air, good timing as cycle 24 has started!!!
4. Point taken, by the by the gentlemens own admission subsequently 'he was a bit dumb'!! Definition being moving from England where you get a free licence for life to France where you pay €46 p.a..... go figure for less bandwidth on 160m/40m/6m and less power on 10m!! My apologies for getting the names mixed up Post edited by a moderator
5.
You're going to have to explain that one! Because I don't live 16 inches from there back door I can't know them? I really don't understand your inference. 99.999 % of the people complaining about the proposal haven't even read ALL of the information on the proposal, let alone spoken to those actually involved, and are more than happy to prefer assumption to knowledge, but if you don't know what your talking about, it's better to shut up.................... I will just throw this into the mix. What a lot of the carping Brits don't know is that they "assume" David and Sandra are just sitting in retirement spending their money on a new toy. What they don't KNOW is that they run a company, in France, that employs French people and it is the money from this they are trying to put back into the French system, still, best not to look further than the end of our own gardens or worse still noses.................. And if the circuit was to be near me, I wouldn't have a problem, much the same as I don't about the airfield near me, that I knew was there BEFORE I moved here. What p#**+s me off is when someone actually tries to put something back, and help the community they have moved into, we whinge, yet I know of one town where the Brit's whinged until they were allowed a cricket field, and now wont let the French play on it. Yes I am a petrolhead, I like my cars, my motorbikes etc etc, and I understand that there are those that dont feel the same, what I will not do is try and inflict MY interests on to others. What the Brooker-Careys ARE doing, is working with the local community, to ensure the proposal includes education, employment and allowing for other interests (horses, bird watching, fishing etc etc) to be developed. As you don't know me, or my background, or anything about me I'd rather you kept to the subject, and research you comments rather than spouting!
Good lad!!
6. A HAREC is exactly that Ernie, a European cover note essentially allowing you to apply for a full recepricol licence in another country/state, you as you have stated get them for free, it makes the process of obtaining a French license easier and quicker. http://www.anfr.fr/doc/docenligne/IND.pdf The link for the paper download for applying for a French licence A link you may find interesting as you have been off the air for a period of time regarding licensing from OFCOM. http://www.ofcom.org.uk/radiocomms/ifi/licensing/classes/amateur/ The reason a HAREC is worth having is because your paper UK license its also in French and makes the job of obtaining your F1V.. call quicker
7. Just happen to be a very happy pilot using these guys, although where were you before when Nearly-Heaven were advertising on here? 8. If you want to a SEP JAR licence why not try NASA at Limoges, cheaper than all the other clubs, annual subscription lower, aircraft immaculate, English speaking instructors and you pay 'NOTHING' per hour for an instructor!!! BEAT THAT Link below.... http://www.aeroclub-nasa.fr/
9. For English flying instruction in France ( Limoges) see www.nearlyheaven.com and www.francoflyers.org I hope that this helps you. posted by Sue Burgess of Nearly Heaven I was under the impression that advertising was prohibited on the forum?? Advertising is not allowed on the forum, but I'll tell you what Mr DJTx, if any of our posters would like details of your upcoming events, they can email or PM you and ask that you keep them posted, personally and off-forum. Go figure, double standards eh???
10. David, assuming your licence is not a M3 piece of paper, your are ok, any class A/B licence with allow you VHF/HF privilages here in France, but be careful, the max power on HF is 500watts (more than the UK not that you would notice) however on 28Mhz the max power is 250watts, operating on 50Mhz is restricted above 50.200 and also 160mtrs is a very narrow allocation here, you are best to contact the REF (French RSGB) and and get a copy of 'la NOMENCLATURE' giving you all modes, bands and power levels that apply to you as a resident amateur.David is correct in that you must be resident for 3 months before applying for a licence during which time you sign as F/ Callsign / P.Note  /A does not exist anymore!! Most important point is apply to OFcom for a HAREC 'BEFORE' you leave the UK, without this piece of paper your sunk, you need this as the French demand a copy of it, CEPT rules only apply for a short stay. Remember the band plan, there a couple of UK hams on F5V callsigns one in particular who is under investigation of breaching his licence conditions, you are in France, you have to adhere to their rules, with regard to power and band plans. Look up your local club and go say hello, you will be pleasantly suprised with the welcome!!! Good luck
