2.

I may be tempting fate here but my autologin has worked perfectly since the recent changes to the forum. Prior to that it quite often logged me out and I had to login manually again.
I clearly was tempting fate as I found it impossible to access the forum yesterday evening. Was any one else having similar problems
Whilst watching the debate I paused on the forum to find that I was logged out, that clicking on a post eventually gave a blank screen, that the only way to access a particular post was by navigating via the thread title, that the log-in did not work, that the forgotten password didnt work, that the reregister didnt work; later in the evening the complete site was inaccessible. The forum was deprived of an online commentary of the performance of the "little man".
 3. Well only 18 million viewers down on 2007, but then Ségo was easier on the eyes, this morning the "small person" was on france Info early trying to rake over the coals of the previous night in a rather hapless attempt to self justify with pathetic self-adulation the manifest errors made in his rather second class performance on SEVEN french channels. The markets appear to have taken the masterly performance of françois bis with equanimity, the Cac 40 gaining 1,32% in early trading and the rate against the US dollar makina a VIOLENT negative lurch of 0,02% .
 4.
Having just watched a bit of Sarkozy's address in which he warned that should the country turn to socialism then it is likely to follow the route of Greece, Italy, and Spain, (quite possibly IMHO). Despite this the polls seem to show that his personality is the problem and turkeys will be voting for Christmas. What price the € next week?[:P]
The price of the €uro is already accounted for as the markets anticipate the victory of the socialists. But in all the media clamour the only party leader speaking the truth is Marine Le Pen who has been particularly critical of the dwarf. I, of course, agree with Marine that the dwarf has changed france into a "banana republic".
 5.
MLP has announced, as pretty much expected, that she won't tell her voters to vote for either contestant, but will cast a blank vote.
Politically and in particular considering the june "legislatives" she can not consigne the "frontiste" vote but there is an implicit invitation to follow her example.

 8.
I confused myself by taking "SHON" on planning permission docs as relating to "Surface Habitable" - it doesn't, it stands for "Surface Hors Oeuvre Nett", i.e. total area excluding walls. I think it included the garage, which would not be counted as "habitable", but I've never been able to reconcile the various figures. Incidentally, this had a big effect on my Diagnostiques, as Energy Efficiency is measured per square metre habitable - in my case dividing by 143 rather than 186 pushed me into Band E.
A touch of caution on SHON & SHOB, although the change is not retrospective the SHON & SHOB no longer apply to the areas following the changes introduced on the 1st march 2012. Dealt with in some detail with legislative citations in a recent thread.
 9.
My understanding of "revolving credit" is that it's a loan without any fixed payments or fixed timescale for repayments. Eg conventional loan of 4.000 to be paid back over 3 years at fixed rate of 125 a month Revolving loan of 4.000, spend 4.000 straight away, pay off 500 in 5 months time, and the repaid 500 is available again to be re-borrowed. In other words potentially you never pay it all back because it's too tempting to keep using the never-ending credit. I may be wrong but I think that's the gist of it, and of course it's dangerous because it's freely available credit once you're signed up. Lou
I find that quite immoral. I am surprised that after 5 years of an austerity pressy who repeats his mantra on the evils of falling into debt, at an "ad nauseam" frequency of repetition that such a thing should be allowed. Very strange indeed, I can only assume that it has been overlooked due to the benefits to pressy's friends.

 11.
Hi Pacha,   I am intrigued as I would have imagined that coarse / sharp sand would have been what was used in the construction of our buildings...certainly the the mortar where it has dislodged is very 'gritty' and I would have imagined sharp sand would have lent more 'body' to the mix? Are you recommending 'soft' sand and if so why? Cheers... Mac
By sharp sand I was thinking of something like this The OP with internal work is likely to be doing "pierre apparente" rather than "rejointement" ( pointing in english). Where you live the local available stone tends to be schist with its longest dimension laid horizontal and a repointing technique will be used. Other areas of france have for example in La Vienne a tufaceous rock which is laid similar to schist but the repointing is done with a local clay with the material between the stones left some 2 cms from the outer surface to protect it from the rain. The "moellons" of deux sèvres are irregular in shape and irregular in size and lend themselves to a "pierre apparente" technique where the smaller stones are concealed allowing the larger more aesthetically pleasing stones to stand out. Any attempt to point this irregular material results in a fussy christmas pudding texture to the wall. The core material of a wall varies from a clay to a clay-sand-lime mixture. The quality of the lime used is very variable as it was made in a simple vertical lime kiln with charcoal; often the slaking process on site was very rudimentary.
 12. Hi not Ok So what was the variability in the grade of your sand purchases in relation to the rather variable gaps which you have tried to fill in the picture below?
 13.
This is what I have been explaining for the last few posts.. The conciliateur (who in this case seems to be acting as a Médiateur) is there to avoid going to court unless there is a real case to answer. The stage with judge etc is still a way off...
OK but be convenient if OP clarifies so we know where we stand.
 14. Thought for to-day! The dwarf promised to reduce unemployment to 5%. Five years later the march figure is the highest since 1999.
 15. It seems that you have not at any stage appeared before a judge in the Tribunal d'Instance; if that is the case then your neighbour must have initiated the attempt at Conciliation by making a formal request to the "greffe" ( sort of court clerk) of the Tribunal d'Instance who would then arrange for the Conciliateur to start the conciliation by inviting the parties to appear before him with a view to achieving an aimable resolution to their differences. Can you confirm if this proposition is correct or not? Cheers, PPP.
 16. Of course Marine has been correct in her evaluation of the malaise in voting for the UMP. As she has stated the reason is simple....the problem is Sarkozy....in her opinion, if the UMP had entered the Presidentielle with almost anyone other than Sarkozy then their chances of winning would have significantly enhanced. Marine would not have had a record vote in the first round; the UMP would have topped the poll and gone on comfortably to win the Second Round. The story of the first Round is modern history; the Second Round is unravelling. ( a fine choice of word....sorry Gardienne...I dont think you are into knitting.[:P]) The Marine analogy blames Sarkozy for the UMP dilemma; opinion polls have remained relatively static in the last 6 days with an approximately 10 points differential. Today the most recent poll conducted by the Harris Interactive organisation throws an interesting enlightenment on the rationale of prospective Hollande voters for a week on Sunday.  The poll reveals that 38% of voters will vote for Hollande purely on the basis that they just want Sarko to lose, whilst not particularly considering politics or policies as a basis for choice. http://www.harrisinteractive.fr/news/2012/CP_HIFR_VSD_27042012.pdf Edit 19:00  doubl "l" changed to double"m", sorry greek root.
 17.

I did go diving with mine, do please bear in mind diving is something I really know nothing about. I went on one of these things were you swim around in the pool for an hour then you go off and dive in the sea. Trying think of the depth and it must of been only 10M or so for about 30 minutes and my Casio did not leak. That is however a lot less than 20M when it comes to pressure as I understand it.
1 bar pressure per 10 metres. Chancer, you are welcome to a 50m deep dive, having just once gone below 40m inadvertently ( before dumping the weight belt to start ascending) you can keep the deep stuff. Shallow is lighter, with no deco stops and lots of dive time.
Play catch up! The Pascal is the unit of pressure in the Système International.
 18.
Yesterday he chilled my blood with his speech about this. This actually feels worse to me than in 2002 when it was a contest between Chirac and Le Pen. At least Chirac did not appear to have caught the contagion of extreme right wing'ism............. and I never thought I would have ever had anything decent to say about Chirac!
Chirac was a gentleman and a Gaullist with character and some moral scruples. There are already mutterings close by across the border in La Vienne, fief de Raffarin ancien first minister of Chirac as to the "yellow" line in the sand that Sarko has crossed. OT: On wednesday morning the water was cut off so I wandered up the road to where the contractors were doing the final connection to replaca an old fibro-cement pipe. On the agenda, in fact , to plumbt the philosophy of the new sarko Mantra, namely " le vrai travail". Was cutting of my water un vrai travail or just to m'emmerder etc etc. On of the workers rhetorical questions was..." Vous savez pouquoi les francais ont choisi le coq  comme leur mascotte nationale...parce que c'était le seul animal qui voulait chanter La Marseillaise avec deux pieds dans la merde." A degree of resigned french peasant panache.
 19.

Sarkozy has suggested that there should be a presumption of innocence for the police. Frightening, especially as it was part of the Le Pen agenda.
So when I wish to make a complaint the next time I get hanfcuffed to the railings opposite the Hôtel de Ville in Paris; instead of being advised that I'll get stuck in a cell and beaten up I will be shot in the back.
And worth remembering that when Marine Le Pen announced the proposed policy, it was immediately ridiculed, out of hand, by Sarko's Minister of the Interior as being nothing more than...                                         A LICENCE TO KILL AND NOW THE DWARF THINKS IT IS THE BEES KNEES§ The manifestation of the dulcet tones of political opportunism.

 21.
I thought the law Carrez applied to all rentals and sales, perhaps it was its predecessor. I know there have been cases where the courts have awarded a reduction in rent or a refund of the purchase price where the habitable area has been overstated by the seller and/or agent.
Loi Boutin...rental, non furnished.
 22.
I hate Ebay![:)] I luv BonCoin![:D] Picked up a real bargain from an electronic boutique on a stock reduction exercise recently. Three pairs of active Samsung infra-red 3D TV spectacles; still in their unopened boxes. Price €60 + €7 collissimo. Price in local HyperU  3x79; yes thats right €237.[:-))] Earlier got another pair from a lady in Haute Savoie at €20 + frais de port. So now ready with 5 pairs for the European Cup and Olympics on German satellite TV. If you see something good, get your offer in immediately; if something has been around for a while or readvertised then a Dutch Auction bid is worth a try.
For the sous sur enigma...just watch the lips of a correct french speaker and copy. One can see the lips much better on 3D TV. Just thought whilst on the subject of the Olympics, mentioned above, that I would add a vital link to the Daily Mail. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2032240/BBC-screen-Olympics-3D-organisers-plan-10-hours-day-coverage-extra-dimension.html Thankyou auntie Beeb for economising on formula one to bring me the olympics in 3D.[:-))]
 23.
Thanks for that clarification P-D de R It makes the Loi Carrez more or less inapplicable for most British owners here ..
Not at all; it is just a convention to protect prospective purchasers of condos. It would appear that immoblier agents obfuscate and deceive with their "estimates" of area. So if I had the extremely remote possibility of using an agent I would be sure to include a clause in the contract that all measurements and presentations of area should comply with the provisions of the loi Carrez.
 24. I got my Breitling from a Red Cross charity shop on the Costa Blanca in Spain. No guarantee but very reasonably priced. Problem it consumes button cells at a lightning speed. I must admit in the summer at barbecues I sometimes wear two, one to radiate subtle ostentation, the other to tell the time. P.S Rollies from Thailand are better than Rollies from Hong Kong.
 25. Simple buy a quality toaster that boils & fries eggs as well.....from germany....not Meuh...linex!
