Hi Tresco,      that is really funny, I especially like his mate on the bench...nice haircut, I have sent the link to my neighbour at work, hopefully she will give me a translation later.... regards Dave[:D]
  8. Hi Jane,      I think you may find that it is a requirement of your insurance comapny that you have shutters and I think that in the case of a Maison Secondaire it means that they have to be lockable.,worth asking. We don't have shutters but I am sure that the presence of long term closed shutters is an advert to a burglar, much like the milk bottles and papers on a UK doorstep, that said, properly installed shutters will keep the passing burglar away as Tresco said. best regards Dave
  9. MMmmm..someone talking about Jellied Eels...nice, we used to go down East Lane market off the Old Kent Road  on a Sunday morning with my Dad, we would have jellied eels and in the winter we would go to the hot Sarsperilla stall....lovely. Is the east Lane market still in use does anyone know?  As kids we used to gaze with awe through the window of the Pie & Mash shop in Woolwich, they had a big marble enclosure up to the window full of writhing eels and a man in a blood stained apron used to pluck them out as needed, decapitate them and send them off to the kitchen for stewing, scary stuff at 8 years old. For those who never tasted Sarsperilla http://www.sarsaparilla.co.uk/ Was there a point to this thread? What was the point? regards Dave

  11. Hi,     under the the terms of the Cheque d'Emploi system the employer has to contact their bank for a Cheque d'Emploi cheque book that he/she will then use to pay you, he/she will pay a percentage on top of what you are paid to URSAFF, it only really benefits an employer that is registered and paying tax so that he/she can then claim an allowance on the Cheque d'Emploi payment...clear as mud! There are also restrictions on how many hours you can work but I have yet to find that out, so far I have only done 8 hours in November. The employer will need your address, place of birth, date of birth, full name and the number from your carte vitalle (starts with a 1) best of luck Dave

  14. When I spent some time in Manchester I was taken to Old Trafford by a true 'red' he had a tattoo of  the Man U badge over his heart.....I was only there for the pies...."who ate all the pies?  I did" anyway what I would like to know from proper supporters is when a player is playing for your club he is the gretaest and then when he transfers to another team he becomes a donkey, surely he is still a great player? regards Dave[6]

  17. Hi all,      have just been reading another thread in which David J was saying how unhappy he was that Arsenal had been beaten by Spurs, now why when you come from N.Yorks would you support Arsenal? Not a dig at Dave J by the way! I lived in South East london for most of my life and although I don't think of myself as a 'supporter' I do follow the triumphs and disasters of 'Charlto Apathetic' only because they were my local team. When I lived in Manchester for a while I watched Man U at Old Trafford and was called a 'Cockney' red, much to my inner amusement. My question to all is, if you support football why don't you support your 'home' team? best regards Dave[8-|]
  18. Hi,     I expect that lots of you already know this but if you got here to the pages blanches it is possible to search for someone in France as long as you know roughly where they live, once found you can view a map or an aerial photo, quite old so probably from Geoportail. Have a look for yourself....I know there are some of you trying to find yourselves! best regards Dave http://www.pagesjaunes.fr/pb.cgi?
