  1. Yes, but not too bad. But I was able to bypass the numpties in the call center who read from a script and are instructed not to pass issues up the line. Some one who i had had dealings with over years at the bank followed it up and she said it was difficult. But i had only recently left the UK, so for you it might be easier. They do try and push you to offshore accounts where they can charge higher fees. Calm obstinate persistence are the order of the day. After all the form exists for a reason, that you are entitled to receive interest gross in certain circumstances.

  2. Same here Bixy. Having worked in or had dealings with Fiscs of many countries, i have never come across one which allows the goose to decide who will pluck it. However having worked with the Dutch extensively I know they are always right. So when one tells me that I just shrug and smile. Eventually the French Fisc will wake up I suppose.

PS: Maybe the Dutch are right as usual.

  3. Le particulier is a subscription publication published monthlu for ten months with two or three specific guides one of which is the tax guide. That can be bought at a good news agent or even Carrefour et al, as can the other guide i mentioned. The tax guides are usually available about March/April, tho you might still find 2010. The particulier has a website and like which covers a number of subjects mainly in the tax/finance/rents areas. Tho it also does subjects like telephone contracts. I found it thanks to a mention from Parsnips probably on this site.

  4. Yes i use Le particulier. They publish a guide each year though i am not sure it will give you what you want. You need to read each revenue type where it gives you the reference to where it goes on the form. The french is not too densly administrative. 1st time round i used that together with a guide called 'Guide Practique du Contribuable' which had the forms  cross referenced to section numbers in the text. Unfortunately the french is very administrative. Even the Tax officer i spoke said he preferred using Le Particulier, which i understood as even as a near bilingual i struggled with the text in the latter guide. But the cross referencing was useful. Each only costs about €7 anyway.

  5. Yes i thought about downloading, but there is a little matter of he Hadopi law, think i got the name right, 3 strikes and your out. I know that no one thinks its enforceable but i just do not want the agro. Besides its winter what better way to pass it than listening to all your old music and reliving the memories.

  6. Am currently looking into this myself with the addition of transfering my vinyl to digital. Not at the play back stage yet but have bought Easy Roxio LP to MP3which also handles CD's. Can't answer your question but will be interested in your experiences.

How did you 'rip' the CD's, and in what file format did you save them for play back. Did you use windows media player?

    Sorry for barrage of questions.

  7. You should also consider selling your ISA investments and repurchasing them before you get to France as the profit on disposal for capitalgains is calculated from the purchase date even if that is before you become french resident. So if you realise any profit while still in the uk it will be free of capital gains and you can reinvest while still covered by ISA.

  8. The larger french banks, BNP et al, will open online an external account for a foreign resident. I had one with BNP before coming to France while living in the UK. It came with a carte bleu very useful. That was in 2007, and don't believe the regs have changed.

  9. Tony F. Are you sure. I thought the French church was in Prince Charles street, Leicester Sq. It is tucked away in this small street but is exceptional inside being round with an unusal tapestry behind the alter. I was baptised there, and went to the Kindergarden attached to the church.

Edit Got confused now called Leicester Place, Price Charles cinema is next to the curch.
