  1. Check if your husband's birth was registered with the french consulate. If so he will have a french birth certificate and is therefore french. Copies of foreign registered birth certificates have been centralised in Nante. I forget the exact email address sorry. You can search online and get a full copy at no cost. With that the consulate will issue a passport.
Birth were invariably registered to update the liveret de famille which might exist in your family archives.
The above is from personal experience.

  2. Yes it is a standard message when you claim the 17.7 among as well as other foreign items. It just means you dont get an immediate calculation of i think CSG or tax. But have to wait for your avis.

As you can only get the CSG deductible allowance in the tear of payment, for french dividends the dividend and CSG are paid in rthe same year, for UK the dividend is paid one year before the CSG on it. The system cannot take account of the difference so cannot give you an immediate calculation.

If you do not put the 17.7 in you wont get the foreign tax credit but your dividends wont be grossed up.

  3. Thanks for that Parsnips. That has been my interpretation too and I continue to use the tax credit given in 2047 on that basis. It is in line with the UK treatment where the dividend distribution carried a deemed tax credit. When companies distribute dividends they do not deduct a tax a pay out the net in the UK.

  4. Which means it is not a free year but a delayed payment. I asked about this when i recently gave CPAM my new pensioner's S1. They said I would be billed in Sept based on 2016 revenue as this was the charge for 2016 before my S1, which only applies from Jan 2017.

Rarely does any administration give free gifts so not surprised!

  5. The system has changed and is now PUMA. I have not been able to find a definitive answer on what the contributions will be but they would seem to follow the old contribution method. Tho it has been rumoured that the contributions will only be on savings and investment income at 8% after the deductible. I doubt it somehow.

The collection will be done with the taxes by the fisc as with CSG, and based on your RFR. Which would mean it could be rolled into the monthly tax payment. Will have to wait till Sept to find out.

  6. Then u could try raw mackerel fillets simply marinated in white wine with a squeeze of lemon or lime. You can layer the fillets with onion and herbs of your choice. Put in fridge for 24 hrs and it is done. The wine and juice slowly cook the fillet.

  7. I rather suspect that the increased value has directly more to do with interest rates. Since lower interest rates mean a higher capital sum to buy the same income. I am assuming the scheme is a defined benefit scheme.

If so then the income is more important than the capital value, so the issue is future exchange rates. From my memory before the Euro and UK in EU the french franc moved between being 9 upto 12 to the pound. Pretty much inline with the current variations to the euro allowing for the German effect.

  8. Ah! But have you tried shirred eggs. Yum.

Sorry typing this so cant go back and check. But do you; put a drop of vinegar in the water, swirl it gently and slip in the egg fronm a warm spoon, and continue to gently swirl.

I dont have a cleaning problem doing poached eggs that way. Granny taught me.

  9. Tinabee. It depends on how much equipment you want to attach. The key is the watts per hr taken. You need to intrnet that for each piece of equip and that will give you the ups power you need.. But broadly routers such as live boxes do not take very much and you are not looking to run off the ups all day, just cover on/offs. For that mine is i think 200w.

PCs and monitors draw more power, and you probably want to work on and shut down in an orderly manner so should allow at least 30 min battery back up. I have a 400w APC for the pc and monitor.

My APCs came with 8 sockets, 4 linked to the battery and 4 not. the latter just benefit from stabler power supply. So on my computer system APC I have critical things like the PC and the monitor on the battery sockets and the printer on the other sockets. Apc also have rj sockets so you can pass through the incoming phone/adsl thro them to give some protection in thunderstorms.

For what they cost they are wiorth it. But be aware the batteries, like car batteries have a limited life. But we are talking years here.

    Hopes that helps. JFB

  10. I run two UPS from APC. One for the computer and peripherals, and a smaller one for the livebox and telepone. It functions very well on two levels. Maintaining service during cuts, mainly mini cuts some times 3-5 in an hour. And stabilising the supply to an optimum level seems to help the pc perform more serenely. JFB

  11. It does seem all up in the air. System change and new regions.

I got my december bill in march. Also got the annual statement to support the tax declaration which showed 4 quater payments in 2015 even tho only 3 were billed in that year. As usual I will go with the flow and claim the 4, no point rattling anyone's cage.

As for 1st quarter 2016, I am still waiting. I have no intention to chase.

As long as the carte vitale continues working, why worry.

  12. Yes looked into it when I bought. Essentially its a rip off. If you do not cancel, 2month i think, before renewal date it is renewed by tacit reconduction. I googled it and there are a lot of complaints,so have noted in my diary to cancel LRAR later this year. Its the usual inertia selling, but of a sevice of limited use. I can only think that the car dealers push it for commission.
