  1. These forums are fascinating!  In my naivety I had thought that folk used them to request advice or impart knowledge.  Yet there have been a couple of recent threads - this being one of them - where a genuine request is spun back as a criticism of the situation the 'requestor' finds themselves in and lead to an exhortation to pursue a different (and in all probability costly) water treatment process.  The original request was for specific information on the 'rules'; when this did not materialise the request was changed by asking to be 'pointed/linked' to the relevant rules.  On the face of it, this does not seem an unreasonable request. I don't have a salt water pool, so the answer is of only passing interest to me, but why don't those who appear to have such detailed knowledge of the rules just provide the link then JohnRoss and Chris N Julie - and all the others that are following the thread and waiting for the answer - can read it for themselves and decide how to proceed? Or is that too simple?
  2. Factor 60 - wow!  I imagine you come out of the sun paler than you went in to it!  The freise is obviously a robust solution but I can imagine the slow take up might be because folk with a patterned liner envisage a challenge in achieving an aesthetically pleasing combination.  None the less, I'll keep it in firmly in mind and get back to you if the yellow/orange problem arises.  Thanks.
  3. Thanks Poolguy - that's as useful an answer as I've seen to date.  Given human nature, offering a 'free' lotion could be the most likely option to reduce risk.  Given your own research, would it be a fair assumption that any colourless or white pigmented sun lotion would minimise the problem? Whilst on the subject of water line marks - and again, in order to have a product to hand in case the problem arises - what would you recommend for the cleaning of  general dirt/scum or dark (algae?) marks?  Some long time ago - on another thread - I think you offered Aqua Clean as a succesful product but I have not been able to trace it; is it still your preferred option?
  4. Fully accept your assertion as to ideal solution.  However, I don't know about you but little in my life is perfect and the prospect of all users always following my exhortation to shower first with detergent is slim - particularly where grandchildren are concerned in these days of skin cancer worries.  So my questions remain, given the vast range of water line products on the market, which have proven most effective?  Dave's earlier response indicated that he might just know a little bit more than most of us about the subject - if he is still out there!
  5. Dave I don't have a problem - yet! But, trawling thro the 'water line' threads on the forum looking for a clue as to the best products to have on the shelf in readiness, there is a paucity of specific product recommendation or comparative test results.   Your reply indicated a technical understanding of the 'science' involved that goes beyond the average; so, not-with-standing that there is no 'golden bullet' for the sun oil problem, is there a water line cleaning product that you would recommend as being more likely than others to minimise the problem if applied routinely or quickly enough after the first signs appear?  Alternatively, is there a safe 'barrier' product that can be applied at the water line to minimise migration of the oils into the vinyl?
  6. Val, thanks once again for that clarification.  From what I have been told locally (56) I suspect a number of pool installers are infringing the law.
  7. Many thanks to all of you for your inputs.  The message seems clear, decennial insurance for pool construction is available - at a price - so stear clear of those not offering it. My other question mirrorsTony F's.  If a constructor goes ahead and takes on a pool project without having decennial insurance is he actually in breech of the law?
  8. I am being told by some installers in the swimming pool industry that no insurance company will offer Decennial Insurance for the construction/installation of a pool.  Yet it is my understanding that with any kind of construction, Decennial Insurance cover is mandatory!  Does anyone know if there is a legal exemption for pool installers?  If not, are such installers operating outside the law by taking on projects without the appropriate insurance cover? Any advice would be most welcome.
  9. It's almost certainly because I'm stupid - but I can't find an option to download AVG 8 for free.  I presently use 7.5 Free and get the daily pop-up reminder/offer to upgrade to v8 but always get directed to buy the full version.  I have not been able to identify a link that offers me an equivalent v8 Free.  Any help most welcome.
  10. So, I followed JayJay's link and note that "The Freesat platform is to use Eurobird 1 .... for its EPG and other services" and also that "There are no plans by BBC or ITV to change satellite, broadcasts will continue from Astra 2D".  So, will BBC/ITV be on Freesat on Eurobird 1 or not?  Or do we have to monitor both sats to get the full service?  I'm sure Freesat will make all clear once it goes live but, in the meantime, can anyone explain?
  11. Interesting!  The JEP was supplied and fitted by Andrew and has an integral pump control facility linked to its internal timer.  So both pump and automatic chemical dosing are always in sync regardless of France's periodic power outages.  And it was easy to fit.  It's so obvious one wonders why the pump control facility was not implemented when the JEP was first installed.  Are there any disadvantages to what seems a good arrangement?  Did Andrew explain any pros and cons for deciding whether to use the JEP capability or not?
