1. While I completely understand the 'sick to the stomach' feeling  people have expressed, I don't understand the surprise/shock. It's not as though this is the first (or last) time someone has been so vile/brutal in acting out either their own demented  'desires'  or 'urges' let alone  those acts done on behalf of an 'organisation' in the not distant past...think about the mutilation of children in Rwanda as a relatively recent example. Things as horrifying/disgusting as this have always happened: we are just exposed to them more these days. There is no massive upturn in this sort of tragic and horrible event, done in this case by someone who appears to have been deranged. We just get to know about it so quickly. What sometimes gets me, is that we gasp with horror at each most recent 'story', and then quickly move along to the next; there are so many to choose from.[:'(]
 2. I noticed he was a leftie too, albeit when he stated 'I'm a leftie, get used to it...' to about 1,000 reporters as he signed a document on the day of his inauguration. I'm glad no one* had really noted it before. I certainly hadn't but there are those people who think being a 'leftie' indicates something terrible, still.[:-))][;-)]     *barring deranged conspiracy theorists, that is.
 3.
Kick it out or love it - but FGS make some sort of decision - how do some people get through life?
Josa, did you see the picture of the dog?  [;-)] (I don't want to spoil it for anyone)
 4. I think the word we are looking for is 'HOT'.[:-))]
 5.
Of course I will.It shows that I am the only person who has understood the situation .
I doubt that. I would guess it shows you're the only one posting who views complex personal relationships/situations such as Alma described as some sort of financial contract?
 6.
Wooly and 5-e, with you two, one can literally MDR...
OMG!!![:'(] Eh well, at least we won't have to listen to you carping on about your chateau....[:P]
 7.
I saw this the the day after it had been televised - sadly the words used were Sarah Palins own !
(my bold) Yes, and apparently this is the first time an 'impersonator' on SNL have ever done this. The fact that Tina Fey did, and it was so funny, says far more about Sarah Palin than it does about Ms Fey's or the writers' talents.[:'(][:D]  I think that was just on one or two occasions though. It's well worth rooting around for the others, which are more imaginative but still horribly credible.
 8.
Or This is a wind-up because everyone loves a moan (negativity) and will get a response! Time this post was put to bed.
Time you went to bed, matey![:D] You 'got' Sweet17 wrong, in my opinion.[:)] ETA: I 'moan' and am 'negative' - Sweet isn't moany, and doesn't tend to be negative, in my experience, but what do I know? [Www][:D]
 9.
Tress, you're right, I should really move not too far away.  We have a lovely doctor and nice friends... Why, have you anywhere specific in mind, Tress?
Nowhere specific, Sweet, but I do think being near Bordeaux is a big plus, and if you have established friendships and other significant relationships, well, those are big (huge?) 'plusses' too, perhaps more important than the physical location?. I would be very wary of moving far, far away under the circumstances you describe. I think if I was you, and I was generally happy, I'd look around for a more suitable house nearer to 'home'.  Then again, Saintes is such a nice place. It has a really nice 'feel' to it. I feel very comfortable in Saintes in a way I don't feel in Cognac, Pons, or St Jean D'Angely (which are all really nice places to visit).  There's some really nice countryside around Saintes and St Jean (not so much near to Pons). It's nowhere near as pretty overall as Dordogne, but here winter temperatures are milder, and we can get to the sea easily. I like to be able to get to the ocean easily, all year round, and I can.[:D]
 10. Sweets if you're worried about the cold in the winter why are you thinking about Dordogne? It's flipping freezing there!  I know this because I have been there in the winter. I was worried I wouldn't be able to get home, what with all the snow and ice.[:'(] If you don't like your house then I understand you wanting to move, but why not stay in Charente Maritime?
 11.
Driving, Complete French postbag, are these because people are editing posts made two and three years ago?
Yep.[:)]
 12.
Tressy and Sweet 17, I sent you both dozens but you never replied.[:P]
Well, I can't speak for Sweets...and I won't even speak for myself on this occasion.[:-))][;-)]
 13. I haven't had them for ages - I mean at least a year - even though I subscribed for pm alerts. It's only now the rest of you are catching up with me. Always ahead of the game, me.[:D][:-))][;-)]
 14.
You spelt Bordeaux wrong [:P]
[:D] How did you fix it Chris?  The 'e' does still look a bit different. Will it 'weather' the same as the rest of the sign?
 15. Rose, these things can be quite tricky, but don't underestimate how much value your thought and time has. You explaining what was OK and what wasn't (re your mates' visit) will be a huge service to your French friends/neighbours, and you still get the benefit of the interactive language imput.[;-)] If you 'repay' your neighbs for letting your friends stay free, they'll feel they have to 'repay' you in some way. I have been through this whole thing, and it was much better once it settled down into 'we're neighbours, it's normal to help if you can'.  I'm not saying I don't ever give my neighbour anything as a surprise (flowers, vegetables I know don't work on her land, etc.), but that's the best way I can think of to put it.
 16.
... Dominant genes, is that what you call it?
I don't normally call it anything out loud. Too scary for words.
 17.
Trouble is ........  I'm in England at the moment. Hoddy
Phew! [:D] When are you over here next, Hoddy? I'm not being nosey...it's just general interest, you understand, and nothing to do with your Ogerish powers failing at the channel.[Www][:P]
 18.
Why, is Hoddy such an ogre as that?
Well, strictly speaking Hoddy is only part Ogre (on her grandmother's side, if my memory serves correctly) but lets just say her granny had 'dominant' genes.[Www][:-))][;-)]
 19.

Will you administer the wedgie as punishment Clair, or should we ask Hoddy to nip over to BB's place and duff him up?
Let's not be too harsh... I'm sure the mere threat of Hoddy will be enough to ensure he doesn't foul again...
Thinking about it more rationally, it was probably Peter Mandelson's fault.[:-))]
 20.
Interestingly, the property bit of the website (and therefore the bit that earns money) was up and running well in advance of the forum. Hm...........not very nice knowing you're not on anyone's priority list, is it?
If someone was doing 'triage' then the forum would be pretty far down on their list of  things needing restoring to health. I understand it perfectly - the principle, that is, not the techie stuff.[:)] PS I thought Bugbear broke the forum too, with his 'move to the Dark Side' thread title being the last thing I saw before it all went haywire.[:-))]
 21. Jon it's very difficult to know what to say to you about this without sounding insulting You promise 'attention to detail', but the fact that the errors begin with your address on page 1, and end on the final page 'How to contact us', with not a single page in between (and indeed, barely a single paragraph), free of errors lets you down so badly. Potential customers may doubt your promise of  'attention to detail' when faced with so many basic errors. You even misspell place names and menu items.[:'(] Simply sitting down with a spell-checker and a dictionary would eliminate many of the spelling errors. The grammatical errors are trickier to deal with, but I'm guessing you quite like your 'style' of writing and don't see much wrong with it. Can I remind you of the number of times people here have suggested they simply can't follow/don't understand what you're trying to say?  This is down to your writing style and frequent lazy typos and other errors, not a lack of willingness/friendliness on the part of forum members. I repeat, your property looks lovely, but replicating the writing style you use here on your website is just bonkers!   ETA: I don't think your site needs a complete 'rebuild/redesign' though - just tweaking of the pictures etc.
 22.
Think you need to look at Jons website closer -
And there lies the problem. It took me several tries before I finally hit on the other bedroom pictures. If I was looking for somewhere to stay, the bedrooms are the first thing I want to see (or be able to find easily), along with the prices. The house does look lovely, but the spelling/grammar mistakes on the website are appalling. Jon, you really need to get someone else to sort all the 'blurb' out. As it stands I would be concerned about the lack of attention to detail in that respect.   PS: 'That' chair shouldn't have the prominence it does. You're obviously very proud of it but it looks like a torture device.
 23.
Funny how he's wearing two completely different shirts in the photos- so obviously not even taken at the same game !
It's the same game - he just put his jacket on, perhaps due to the frosty chill emanating from Mrs B.[:)] Only kidding. As it happens I don't think he was eyeing up the players in way being implied. What has he done to his arms though?[:'(]
 24.
Help please - are these one and the same ? If so when/why should I use one word or the other ? If not what is the difference ?
They are one and the same as Cat says, but PoireĆ©e seems to be the favoured term used in the supermarket, for example, when buying one or two leaves for a gazillion Euros, and Blette's used when buying plants for thruppence to grow on yourself.
