  1. Yes of course years ago it was really held that t any paperwork should be served on a limited company at its registered office so say Lloyds Gresham Street London Barclays Lombard Street and the like.

Not any longer so I picked up this trick initially through my banking career! and then my career in the law. You pick an address of the bank say I do not know say Llandudno or wherever or a service centre which is better and sometimes in fairness they do pick it up but sometimes they do not.

Therefore by the time they get around to it the clock is ticking. When I said three weeks in my earlier posting I meant six weeks for it takes about 28 days to get judgment.

The cost was nothing in reality so I got what I wanted and some fun in so doing.
  2. The legal position is that the loss must flow directly from the action (causation). I had a problem some three weeks ago and I too charged my hourly rate and which is the rate that I charge my services at. I was offered just £75 no movement from the bank. Then I simply went on line through the Courts Service and issued a CC summons and I picked a rather obscure address for the bank so that it would get lost in the system. It did and I then applied for judgment the bank squealed and appealed no luck I am afraid and the District Judge found in my favour. I had my money
  3. Once in banking and when someone from then Poultry and at a rather higher level than I telephoned me and explained what a letter of comfort was. Essentially not worth the paper its written upon and he said I get my comfort from Gin and Tonics.

Then I had another lecture as to the values of guarantees. In banking parlance one values guarantees as being (FWW) for what worth! So there is nothing to stop a MD giving his guarantee to banks for a multitude of lending. But if the g'tees are called in then collectively he cannot meet his obligations and thus a fire sale takes place.

Comfort letters are not worth anything. Did you know that when let us say a major housing developers take on various sites they establish companies for the sites themselves so that the parent cannot be brought down by the failure of a subsidiary.

Still I have no money so why worry about Guernsey or Jersey of the Isle of Man.
  4. I see Orange emails from time to time pointing us in the direction of Fidelity points. Simply and since 2007 have just binned them on the basis that there is no such thing as a free lunch.

This has now made me think?

How please does one now identify the points you have and secondly spend them or use them!

You will see that both in this regard and some others I am simply an innocent abroad. However I do think that more rather than less information is better.
  5. Permission wise perhaps by way of courtesy just a visit to M le Maire would be called for. I am not sure but believe that one does not have to have approval. I probably am wrong but no doubt the wise sages on this forum will quickly address the error.

However as to installation we have experience on both fronts whilst in Normandie. The first a Weldom type which did not go exactly to plan and some two years later we went to a specialist I think it was a franchise type organisation well-known in France is it Renee Briasche or something like that but yellow pages and under cheminee will be the way forward.

Also of course and if you pay tax here in France you obtain a credit from the Impot guys. Weldom are basically diy shops? and their installations may or may not be done in-house?
  6. Hi Sweet 17 welcome back you have been missed. Cardiff was Cardiff the atmosphere was tremendous.

However you will know Glynneath as in Max Boyce well the rugby club entertain Hawick every two years and Hawick was obviously the late and great Bill Mclarens club.

So BBC Wales the night before the game went there and spoke to all and sundry and in the background by way of positioning the piece so to speak were our Scottish friends resplendent in their kilts. So the TV panned around to them and the presenter was that bubbly little Welsh girl who took over when sadly the again late and great Mr Humphries left us.

All of a sudden one of the Scots just simply dropped his kilt. I am now able to positively comment upon what the Scots wear under their kilts. Afterwards the BBC Wales were full of apologies!

Subsequently I have suffered from an inferiority complex. Fortunately my wife was not in the room at the time.
  7. Indeed and it is part of the annual sabre rattling on this forum and where we are all patriots and support our own. But it is not for real at least that is what I hope.

However I am not sure if anyone here has picked it up but Andy Powell of Wales was arrested for drink driving on Sunday morning on a motorway service station near Cardiff.

Apparently and allegedly he returned to the team hotel which is out in the country away from Cardiff felt hungry no restaurant open so with a friend took a golf buggy then a backroad then the hard shoulder of the motorway towards the services to eat.

Was arrested at the service station then later charged with drink driving. Has already been dropped from the squad and now has to face Cardiff Blues.

This is not like David Gower flying over the cricket ground in Australia or the alleged exploits of Botham in the West Indies this is about a sense of madness beggars belief and I am struggling both for the words and understanding of what was going through his mind.

Hi agent Mike Burton of Gloucester and England said that he had made an error of judgment and did not condone drink driving.

    Yes Mr Burton?

He is due in court in about a month and will obviously plead guilty. The legal community in Cardiff is now suggesting that he will need the best QC that money can buy for he may now well face the inside of Knox Road (for those who do not know the area it is the prison in Cardiff)

It is one thing to celebrate let us say a win which on the balance of play was undeserved to playing Russian roulette not only with oneself but other users on a motorway.

    Madness

  8. Of course England will turn up so will Ireland. Should be a very good game.

Before the Roma game I listened to Fluety could not place the accent. Thought Sale originally then moved East to Leicester then down to Bath and finally Wasps and Saracens. Still unsure perhaps someone can help
  9. It has just been announced that he underwent surgery last night for a neck injury but can move both arms and legs and hopes to make a speedy recovery. What good news. Chris Paterson has a kidney injury and was also detained overnight.

best wishes to all rugby followers.
  10. Paris is a pretty unforgiving place to go to but for balance the Irish made so many (many) mistakes and Bugbear if you watch the tape once more you will agree. It would not happen again and there well be a backlash in a couple of weeks at of course the home of English rugby 'Twickers.'

One thing stood out from French teams of years ago discipline. But leopards never ever change their spots and if the French this year are on the back foot (difficult to envisage) save of course for Cardiff in a fortnight then it might be different.

Now to Cardiff and we the Welsh were lucky (very very) even to get a draw and that would indeed have been robbery with violence let alone a win. One only has to feel sorry for the Scots. We welcome them every other two years to the home of Welsh rugby and where of course the stadium is right in the middle of the city and it is sad that such a performance did not result in a win. Again it just proves (as between England and Wales) that you cannot play the game with 14 let alone 13 players.

In fairness to both sides and as better described by the outside half of Scotland (what a wonderful Scots accent) the referee seemed to make up the rules as he went along.

However in all of this nothing bar nothing is important as the well-being and health of the Scottish player now at the University Hospital of Wales Cardiff with his parents being with him. May God protect him and let us all wish him well and our thoughts are with him and his family
  11. We also bank with a French Bank with a branch dedicated to us English speakers!

We ship over a fixed sum in euros every month and we have on-line back in the UK and just know it goes to where it should as in CA at Caen. However each month they charge us over 3 euros for sending us a letter confirming what we already know so that is for the chop. Again they charge for sending cheque books through the post?

A letter is on its way to them.

    regards
  12. Hi tax was not included and comes in at 5.5%. Every quotation we get from this guy does not separate labour from costs. His next door neighbour who is the plumber save for small jobs again does not separate out the price. I do know they hourly charge is about 37 euros. I am so grateful for all of the inputs it has helped a lot and concentrated one's mind. I am now not signing the devis and we will do it ourselves.
  13. No sorry I did not mention it is not for habitation simply for thermique reasons. It is and will only be for storage.

With plasterboard to hold it up what does one do please. I do not within reason care what it looks like. If future buyers want to convert the attic it is for them.
  14. Thanks Peter I see that credit for Impot has dropped this year from 40% to 25% so I suppose taking that into account its not too bad. However I am a cynic and believe that artisans hike prices knowing that Impot credits are around?

Is it me or is this site slow today?
  15. Thanks to everyone for their responses. Without wishing to bore everyone to death and in an attempt both to get it 'right' and to save pennies I do hope you will not mind if I post the devis (it is not too long) My French is good enough to understand most of the devis so the posting is for comments essentially on pricing and alternatives please?

I am so grateful to everyone and seeing the cost of almost 3500 euros I am now on notice!

  16. This is a black art as far as I am concerned but briefly we have some quotes and the figures are somewhat high. Our friend who is a good all round DIY guy in the UK has offered to come across strip out existing stuff and replace and re-board for us. Please what is the best insulation wool to use and does anyone have a brand name please.
