Being really nosey now Albert so feel free to tell me to mind my own business but, are you going to change over yourself? I think we do similar work and I am still on the fence as to whether it's worth the hassle for me, also can I still change it being I was unable tp as a PL before mid Feb?

I don't think the above is entirely accurate, you pay tax where you are at the time of earning the income, so in this case the OP's OH will pay tax in the UK, this should be declared on their French tax return as income earned and taxed abroad I believe, so no tax will be taken in France. I am no expert though, someone knowledgable will come along and correct this shortly no doubt!

I also do as Will describes above, I am Prof Lib Micro Bnc and also am currently a salaried seasonal employee. I'm not sure how this will affect my cotisations etc. (I'm expecting cotsations for the micro to stay the same, they are after all a percentage of income) . I also know that it is a comon set up particularly for people I've met who teach, my Uni prof for example also took private lessons, with the Uni's consent.

When I moved a mobile home here via a carrier involved in this type of work all the time I was told he had to post his route somewhere but did not need the full CE business. It was about 3X8.

Dates are important here, UK hols start on the 14th I believe where as my son's start on the 7th, here in the Alps the week of the 7th is NOT busy at all so you may get a good deal if you go before UK holidays.

I have stated before that I was worried about secondary education here in France, primary has been fine except for the items listed above, no IT no art. However a recent move has made me realise how bad things were where I was before. My son was top of the class in the village primaire, always getting 18 or 19 and sometimes 20. He was in his new primaire for one day and I was called in to see the teacher. I was shocked to be told that my son was miles behind his class mates in most subjects and that he needed to attend after school classes twice a week to catch up! The new teacher is very strong, she taught in Paris before taking this position in the Alps and told me she intended to turn out high achievers not just average students.
So what can I make of this, that in the Charente the schools are so backward that my son could finish top of the class and yet be miles behind other shcools, or just that I have found a french teacher who really pushes the kids to achieve??
I'm happy of course that she caught this now with only one year to go to secondary school but what about all those other poor kids in rural schools, are they getting the same poor education?
Incidentally the schools here have IT equipment, take art and musicclasses and have a full sports programme due to the proximity of facitlities (pools, ski-ing etc.) so it is an area lottery.

Has any one experience of working as an employee and being self employed at the same time. I am wondering how my cotisations will be affected I currently pay about 25% of my gross income (for the micro) in cotisations and tax.

I can only comment on the way it works for me, the interest on the mortagage is reported against the income from rental for the same property thus reducing tax liability on that income. It can not be applied to other income steams. The 'start-up tax' as you call it does not come into it as far as I know.

I agree, he doesn't sound like a feral cat at all, even an injured one would not let you do all this and happily use a litter tray either. I wonder how he got the sores? Poor little thing, cats do heal quickly though and as he is now being well fed etc. I think he will soon start to come on in leaps and bounds. I seem to have been adopted by a local cat, a beautiful and tiny thing which sees me and comes running since I gave him some turkey on christmas day. I thought this one was feral at first, he is always out and we have huge snow fall here but he can't be as he purrs like a little engine when I call him to me and lets me pet him. I would take him in completley but the dogs are not keen at the moment and he must have an owner somewhere as although he's not fat he looks healthy so must be being fed, after losing my own cat a couple of weeks ago I am drawn to this wee thing. He trys to come in the house and every opportunity even though the dogs are there so seems desparate for company.
Well done for taking the cat in and good luck, keep us posted.

There is way more than normal levels of snow across all French resorts as well. I thought that the novelty factor of it would last.....it hasn't. 1 meter fell overnight a week ago and walking dogs crotch high in snow is no fun, believe me. It's now getting hard packed in this area so you can walk on it without disapearing but the clouds are gathering and la arge dump is due tonight, what I wouldn't give for a covered parking area!!
EDIT Just checked the weather forecast and I'm due 11cm overnight with a low of -20, winter draws on as they say!!

Well it's been a month since I've had access to the forum and this was my first thread and I;m already sniffing away! I lost my cat of 22 years a couple of weeks ago and it's still very painful. I'd had her since I was 21 and so she grew up with me and I miss her terribly. She was a very active old lady and the end came quickly, she had been meowing for chicken in the morning and then at lunch time I noticed she looked a bit off, called her to me and she was clearly blind and paralysed on one side. I took her straight to the vet who confirmed that she had had a stroke and at her age there was little we could do and she was becoming distressed. Through many tears she was put to sleep, quickly and painlessly we had her cremated as we were about to move and she is now in a little box next to my Cocker who died here in France too. I now have another to worry about, my remaining cocker who too is looking his age but not acting it, at 14 he still thinks he can run and run and at night he struggles to move about. I hope I will get another summer with him.

Your children's achievements and experiences are very encouraging to someone like myself who is concerned about the education system here. I agree though on the IT front, none so far and my son is 9 and has been in school here for 6 years. He is very IT literate though due to having these facilities at home, would be good to get some at school, hoping for this with my move to the Alps as the schools do appear so far to be much more modern and a lot better funded.
Actually I noticed you mentioned Chamonix Daft Doctor, is that where you are heading?

I'm already registered as a micro bnc as prof liberale. I earn up to just about the limit and I am in year 4 so I think the move to AE has limited benefits. I am also now working as a salaried employee and again not sure how that will affect things, I now have less time to spend on my own buisness I guess so earning via that route will be likely less this year and as an employee I pay my cotis as I go. Lots think about..and no obvious answers.
Thanks for the info, I think I will wait fo rit to be possible and then look at it again.
