    Puppies :-)

thanks Framboise, this sounds just what we need - I'm getting fed up with the washing. Mimi likes to sit on my lap and ... well, you can imagine. I put her onto her own blanket but it's not ideal. I must add that I have heard that amorous dogs can and do get through these pants so don't take your eyes off them for a second, which is all it takes! [:$]

Try advertising on various french websites such as vivastreet.fr to give away or ask a small fee to cover your vets costs. Also, photos on vets notice boards should help. Do put all the puppies details on here as soon as poss too.[:D]

yep - she's definitely in season! We've found the "evidence!" I'm keeping her on a tight lead at the moment much to the distain of the local males. I wonder why people don't have their wandering male dogs done? That's very irresponsible too. It's cheaper and easier than the female op.

    Puppies :-)

Please put some pics on soon! We can't wait to see them! [:D] Maybe you could ask interested people to pay you a fee as the puppies' jabs will cost you money you didn't realise you would have to pay out for.  Also, they'll all have to be registered and microchipped etc.... We just collected a little female poodle from the SPA in Bergerac and I think she may be in season as the dog down the lane keeps trying to get at her... This might sound dumb, but how do I tell, as we've never had a female dog before? [:$]
  5. There really are some nasty people about! How would THEY like that done to them!!! My dog was abandoned and starving when we found him and was also obsessed with food. So much so that he started to guard it and became much worse from bad advice given to us about taking it off him. When our (late) friend Alan showed us what to do he improved enormously, but not until I'd had a few not very nice nips! Take a look at articles Alan wrote about Rio's food guarding on  http://www.dogbehaviouradvice.com  One of the things that got Rio out of it was that everytime we walked past if he was eating or had a bone, we dropped a small piece of cheese for him so he eventually learned that he didnt need to guard his food any more. It is very important to train a dog out of food guarding as so many "accidents" happen when kids or even adults go a bit too near if the dog is eating, and also this guarding can be transferred to their toys or blanket, which kids will not understand.  All the best for Joy - I hope someone will take him into their hearts and home soon. Best wishes. Susie.
  6. he has a daughter at university in England and an ex wife working in Tenerife who we met up with over there recently... but other than them, I don't think so. Every time my dog does something funny Alan loved to know about it and he said all the time to me "send MY dog back to Spain! He no speaka the French!" [:D] I shall think of him always. A couple of weeks ago, Rio came back with some unwanted dead ducks from a nearby farm for us - 3 in about 3 minutes and I know Alan would have been amused by this. Rio used to guard things like that but thanks to Alan's training he now drops them at my feet for me to pick up! I was considering being trained by Alan myself to continue his work here but time ran out...
  7. Very sad news ... Alan Newman-Moore died suddenly in January. My dog has lost his favourite uncle and we are all so sad... the website http://www.dogbehaviouradvice.com is still running, but I don't know how long for. The world has lost someone of great value to us all. He used to train the most difficult and aggressive abandoned dogs so they could be re-homed, as well as running obedience and agility classes and dog-handling. His own 2 dogs Winston and Sunny are looking for new homes now. [:(]  [:(]  [:(]
  8. Hi Magnolia - I'm hoping to find a nice little female to be a little sister to my HUGE basque sheepdog who is now far too big to get onto my lap, in fact his feet are on the floor when his tummy is on my lap. I really would like one quite tiny... and Rio is very friendly to all dogs especially small ones, who he takes under his wing. And thank you to everyone who is on the lookout for me. I've been on holiday so didn't want to make any decisions until our return so we can concentrate fully on giving the new doggie (when we get her) lots of love and attention. Susie. [:D]
  9. Jonzob says "I would also like to point out 'again' that if your eyes are stinging and you can smell 'chlor' then you are smelling the lack of chlor not excess and what you can smell is chlorimine which is caused by the chlor combining with amonia and because of the level being too low there is not enough to do the job of sanitising your pool, it's all tied up. If that is the case then put more chlor in, not try to reduce it further..."  I must say that I've always noticed that it's usually the public swimming pools that stink of chlorine and make your eyes sting; they say it's from putting loads in and private health clubs the smell is a lot better and they say it's because they use less!!!!??? ... and anyway, chlorine still gives me asthma and salt doesn't...hey ho...

    Jack Russells

I might have one if it's after our holiday in Feb - I'd like a female puppy - can u send pics please - where are you?[:)]
  11. well there must be something in it or how could she tell where I'd been swimming without me saying a word? My hair was certainly drier and breaking off when I swam in chrorine pools... maybe it has something to do with the way the chlorine level goes up and down whilst with the salt method it's regular and balanced??? I guess as you're the poolguy you know best, so waddya say about the asthma point I made?  :)
  12. Yes, that's him, Alan. He's really good with any dog - more than 45yrs experience with even the most vicious - not that this one is, just saying. Have a read of his articles - he did a few on our dog Rio, a Basque Sheepdog with the problems we had, and also some of my own are on the site about our move to France from Spain with Rio when I took over his newspaper page for several weeks. IF the owner follows his advice you can train the dog out of almost anything! You can email or phone for FREE advice or go and see him in Benitachell, Spain - have a holiday at the same time! http://www.dogbehaviouradvice.com
  13. [email protected]  No, no, no! Don't give him away! Just email this guy and he will help you re-train the dogs so they don't fight! This man is a genius with dogs! Then you can keep them both! Best wishes.
  14. Re: SALT v "normal...." whatever that means... I prefer to swim in salt water pools as then I don't get asthma. I understand that salt converts into chlorine but that's the way it is for me. Even when the chlorine level is at the minimum I will still get asthma, but not so with a salt water pool. And I do agree that there's no 'bleachy' smell afterwards, plus my hairdresser always notices if I've been in a chlorinated pool - she says it rots the hair! We're having a salt pool installed in April so I'll have more info then on the maintenance, but I hope it's simple!  [:D]
  15. hmmm... I'd certainly at least phone to find out the reason for the wait. We recently applied for ours and were told within a few weeks that we cannot have a CV now as we've been away from the UK for 2 years and are not working and not yet at proper retirement age. So we paid all our taxes all our lives in the UK and now we've moved to another European Community country and cannot get free health cover... so what do we do next????
  16. I am looking for a little, young, female doggie to sit on my lap and cuddle in front of the fire as my big 2 yr old Basque Sheepdog Rio thinks he's too grown up to kiss his mum any more. Any ideas? We live in Mauroux, near to Fumel, Lot. [:D]
