1. You should receive all channels with an 80cm dish in the Loire. We were on a campsite at Chinon earlier this month and received all UK channels with a 60cm dish. Good luck.
2. We are trying to watch the final episode of Hostages on Channel 4, for some reason our Humax box recorded every episode except for the final one. We have tried 4OD using Hola, Media Hint and Expat Shield but 4OD keeps saying that 'Unfortunately this programme is not available in your region'. Can anyone recommend another programme that may allow us to watch this final episode? Just to add that Hola, Media Hint and Expat Shield work with both ITV and BBC catch up. Thanks for any help.
3. Why not read your meter and send them in every two months. You will not be overcharged again. You can set up own meter reading on EDF website and EDF will send you a reminder when meter reading is needed.. Bonne Chance
4. I would suggest to your friends in getting the ACSI camping book and All The Aires France book. The ACSI book gives discount to campsites that are signed up to the scheme in the *off peak season* and the Aires France lists locations and facilities of all the Aires in France. Both books can be purchased from https://www.vicarious-shop.com/ *Basically every month except July and August.
5. Filmon is fine at the moment but how long will it be before the authorities close it down!!!!!!
6. "but what is a karcher?" A Karcher is a pressure washer.....
7. Thank you for your replies.
8. When you take out Top-up Health Insurance do you get given a card with your top-up insurance number on it to hand to the Doctor, Pharmacy etc? Or how do you get your payments back from the insurance company. Thanks in advance.
9. Thanks all, Having spoken to Newcastle today, it appears that they may have sent the payment to a closed french bank account (we changed banks early this year). Who ever paid it out just sent it to the bank it went to last year without checking where the pension is paid. They are going to do a search for the monies and get back to us by the end of the week.
10. I am just checking to see if anyone living here in France has not yet received their WFA or am I the only one. I know they had a glitch on the computer just before Christmas and maybe that is why i have not received mine as yet. A happy New Year to you all.
11. If you use Google Chrome as your browser it will automatically transfer foreign languages into English, although not 100% accurate, it is enough to get the gist of it. I also use CurrencyFair and they are brilliant.
12. Yes Amazon do post to France. I bought a Humax box from them a couple of years ago and a Friend bought one only two weeks ago. Quick delivery as well.
13. I know that Parc Verger do rental mobile homes, if you contact them i'm sure they will be a great help to you. Although they are not in the Dordogne, they are just over the border in Haute Vienne. website is www.parcverger.com HTH
14.

and used the 60cm dish to receive all Astra 2 UK channels with no break up even in rain.
The acid test (currently) is whether you could get Channel 4 HD (and something called "fourseven", I've no idea what sort of progammes this provides) and Channel 5 standard def. Can you remember whether you watched those...? You say "all Astra 2 channels" so maybe you did try the ones I mention. But they (C4 HD, C5 SD, fourseven) are the best indicator (as far as we know) as to likely reception of the BBC and ITV after the migration from 1N to 2E. Apologies if I'm telling you something you already know! Certainly at your base location I'd be surprised if you have any problems.
Yes we did watch CH4 FourSeven and Channel 5 as well as Film 4 and 5*, we like CSI/Mentalist/Goodwife/Persons of Interest etc ......sad I know but someone has to watch them.
15. I don't know if this counts but on my travels in my motor home I have a 60cm Alden mesh dish mounted on the roof with a Alden Libertas SD receiver (dont know what type LNB) and a 80cm Triax dish that sits on a tripod with a Comag SL30/12 receiver and Easyfind Single lnb 0.1db. This year we have been down to Toulouse and used the 60cm dish to receive all Astra 2 UK channels with no break up even in rain. We have used the 80cm dish as far south as Sitges in Spain again receiving all Astra 28 degree UK channels with no problem. The house dish is 90cm and no problems with any channels via Freesat receiver again dont know what the LNB is. We are in the Haute Vienne. HTH
16. Thanks Idun, Have contacted Tax office and will see them next week.
17. Hi all, I have searched for the information I want but cannot seem to find the answer. I had a new condensing boiler fitted in 2010 along with double glazed windows and last year a replacement log burner all in my primary residence. I have the receipts for this work from the artisans that did the work. I should have claimed for the tax credit in 2011 but it completely slipped my mind :-(.... Can anyone tell me which boxes I should be filling on the 2047K and 2042K. Thanks in advance for your help. Steve
18. It is not me that is holding the deposit. Some friends of ours rented a gite for 6 months and paid a deposit up front. The gite was not perfectly clean when our friends moved in but it was absolutely spotless when they moved out. The gite owner is holding onto the deposit and says that it will be re-payed after a month, she also charged them a rather large amount for the electricity, larger than we pay for our three bedroom property... I think she is having a laugh at our friends expense...
19. Can anyone tell me if it is legal to keep a deposit for up to one month after vacating a gite, the gite is in excellent condition and cleaner then when the occupant took up the rental. Your help is appreciated. I have also listed this under Gite Owners section..
20. Can anyone tell me if it is legal to keep a deposit for up to one month after vacating a gite, the gite is in excellent condition and cleaner then when the occupant took up the rental. Your help is appreciated.
21. We used Amaguiz for two years after Allianz doubled their price for us on renewal. We didn't make any claims so can't help you on that side, but their customer support was very quick to answer any questions via their website but like all insurances they eventually upped their yearly renewal far and above the inflation rate. We are now with LaPoste and we will see what their renewal cost is like at the end of the year.
22. You need to sign a contract with one of the gas suppliers (Intermarché, Carrefore, LeClerc etc) to get the bottle size and gas (Propane, Butane) of your choice, there is usually a rental fee for your first bottle(s) on top of the price of the gas. I would suggest you visit someone like Darty website or shop and check out the complete range of cookers on offer to see what is suitable for your needs. We have just changed our previous cooker for a latest model and as other posters have said they come with different jets for town gas or Butane/Propane. The gas oven on ours seems to be very easy to adjust the temperature. HTH
23. Hi I can't help with your problem but an internet search brought up answers from the Avast forum. http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=101571.0 You may have to copy and paste the link. HTH
24.
A mate of mine has just given me the link to this company http://www.toowaydirect.com/ . Anyone know what they are like? They offer a darn site quicker connection than my 1/2 meg at the mo.
I am using Tooway through Nordnet.fr for the last 12 months and although they are dearer than orange at least they are reliable with no connection dropouts and a consistant 12meg download and 1meg upload depending on contract (was on less than 1/2 meg with orange fr and for ever loosing connection) and if you get rid of orange line rental then they are on a par price wise.
