1. OH and I currently wiping the tears from our eyes. Esp liked the Low Self Esteem Group.... Excellent thanks Bugbear [:-))]
2.
If your with Orange just get a LiveBox from them, 3 Euros per month, after a year its free and its theirs so there is no warranty problems if things go wrong.
Just noticed this comment Quillan. Is that right that it's free after a year ? We've been with them for 2 years now and are still paying the 3 euros. If it's right I'll give them a chase.
3. It wasn't particularly aimed at you bubbles and wasn't a comment on a 'quick buck' just an easy buck. Plenty of people work in really menial jobs paying minumum wage but still pay tax. I don't begrudge you your profit but it doesn't seem unreasonable to have to pay tax on it. I happen to think those making a profit just from sitting on an asset for a few (or many) years should contribute a bit more than those who work 40 hours a week cleaning sick off hospital floors for instance.

5. It would be nice to take that attitude with all tax but life ain't that simple. Given the choice between soaking hardworking people and rich second home owners who have clocked up 100k for just being in the right place at the right time I know where my preference lies. And I mean second homes, not main homes which are exempt. Come the revolution, comrade perhaps this tax could be increased so a few workers on 10k p.a. could be exempted ! [Www]
6. This may be a tad harsh, but.... my OH and I started a business 10 years ago, sold our house to fund it. Worked our butts off for the first 8 years at least and built it up to employ 60 staff. Decided to sell and we too were liable to CGT. You bought a house, presumably enjoyed using it for a few years and can now cash in a nice £100k profit and you think you shouldn't be taxed on it ?? You won't be suprised to know I think you should cough up and enjoy the 82% profit. ..ps you may want to research indexation [;-)]
7. Have a look at this thread on another forum, chilling reading ! http://www.totalfrance.com/france/forum/viewtopic.php?t=78079&highlight=. Basically make sure you have vacant possession when you complete.
8. mmm... so you can't be proved wrong just yet then. How convenient ! I'm sure many years ago there were those saying how these new fangled motor vehicles wouldn't be around for long and there would never be a service station in every town. It's the future, airports will keep expanding and prices stay low as the Ryanair model spreads. Of course routes will come and go, even airports. But that's not the same as evidence from a few off the wall blogs that Bergerac airport is going to close. The new terminal at Bordeaux and even Brive airport will just be a bit of extra capacity - perhaps even the French regulators will cave in and allow some low cost competition from these places.
9.
Bergerac Airport closing down (so they say)?
Care to give a source for this rubbish Andrew ? You've said it before, who are 'they' ? Both RyanAir and Flybe have plenty of flights in their schedules from Bergerac and Jet2 have launched a new route to Leeds. Not to mention the major upgrade to the airport just completed. Do you just like to pretend you know something we don't ?
10. The flight from Bergerac to Exeter is now listed again on the FlyBe website starting 1st April. Good news for all us Devon folk.
11. I live near Vergt, the strawberry capital of France and you cant move for polytunnels. But I've just found one in UK and it's cheaper to buy and get it shipped here than source locally. Utter madness.
12. Ryanair have just re-listed Bristol-Bergerac from 31 March 2010, phew
13. Stan, the Bergerac FlyBe flghts come from Exeter which is their HQ ! It's the Ryanair flights which come from Bristol. It's a real shame FlyBe have cut this route because Exeter is very important for the people of the South West, being stuck out on a limb and no other airport in easy reach. The problem for us is that my elderly parents use this route and my 14 year old son, neither of whom can easily reach an alternative. But it is part of the deal of being a flight away from family so we will find a solution albeit a pain in the rear.
14. Flybe have just released their Exeter 2010 flights and no Bergerac route is included . Ryanair have also completely removed the Bergerac-Bristol route from their website. This is obviously a significant reduction of routes from Dordogne to SW England. Has anyone heard any rumours or further informaion about these decisions which may indicate how permanant they are ? A few people are going to be faced with longer journeys as result.
15. Could you just not use Chrome ? Open Internet Explorer as usual to use the forum and ignore Chrome.
16. Is there a tunnel into the SWAT valley...oh no, that idea's already been taken. [Www]
17. Some friends bought a Lapeyre kitchen - they had to call on a gang of mates to come and hold the units together while they were GLUED. Seemed a bit primitive to me and they said the quality wasn't great. We have also had bad after-sales service from them so I would cast a vote against Lapeyre. [:(]
18. I raised this last year http://www.completefrance.com/cs/forums/1504550/ShowPost.aspx but never solved it. We've changed bedroom since and it is less prevalent but still, rarely, comes back to haunt me. It's not tinnitus because I don't hear it when I spend any time away.
19. Sorry to be obtuse but I'd been enjoying this long running light hearted thread and thought the griping a bit below the belt. No-one ever thought it was Pulitzer prize winning stuff but it made me smile at times. I'm sure Dave won't be put off though.
20. steve....you're not fooling anyone, it's that Richard Head posting again isn't it ?? [:-))]
21.
........... - they never did reply to it.
Don't give up hope, it's probably still in the in-tray of the only qualified inspector left working there.
22. Life is full of hysterical 'I'm the victim' types. Sometimes they just have to get over themselves and sometimes they deserve offending ! As an example I would happily offend any bigot who tried to spout their rubbish to me. To much of current day life is spent trying not to offend when what we need is more people to tell it how it is. Just my opinion, feel free to be offensive about it, I couldn't give a monkeys.[:D]
23. Just to advise, OH received her registration/SIRET no. today just 5 working days after online registration. So the system for professions is working and very efficiently (for us at least !) [:D]
24. I think he's missed the point. Isn't the greatest success getting to the stage when you don't need a watch ! [:D]
25. Well I've filed again online from scratch and now received an autoreply and a further email to say the dossier has been created. It's looking good so far and fingers crossed for a Siret no. next week so OH can start work. I'm looking forward to the fishing season [:D]
