  1. Can't help with information, nevertheless I wish you good luck with the surgery. At least you're in the right country for it.
  2. You'll have to accept it I fear. We, too, had to sign up to a direct debit so that the authorities can debit an individual bank account as they see fit....
  3. Mogs - I swear by this stuff to deal with digestive problems and also to alleviate arthritic symptoms. A couple of tablespoons in a half glass of water about 30 mins before main meal. Add a little honey if you find the taste too gross. Also aids if you have constipation! However I never bother with Braggs I simply use Amora from the supermarket.
  4. I must admit I've not found that to be so. I was divorced in 1990 and remarried in 1994. We moved to FRance in 2006 but have not had to mention my ex in any documentation. It maybe different if you have minor children where the father has an interest. I, too, left my marriage without any funds and a 14 year old daughter. It may also be different if you're looking for citizenship but if you have Irish citizenship then I imagine you'll not need to do that.
  5. Thanks Andy - never thought of that...Think I'll just pop it onto 2047 and 2042 anyway. I'd rather overdeclare than under, claiming back if they charge me twice. No tax has been taken off it in Luxembourg - that I do know. I appreciate your input.
  6. Hi there, In the absence of a response so far I've just bumped this up to the top again on the off chance that someone might have cashed in an assurance vie taken out from somewhere other than France. The reason why I cashed it in was that we heard that there's a regulation been imposed by the French authorities allowing them to stop people cashing assurance vies if they choose to do so..At our age we never knbow when we may need the money My oriiginal question remains the same
  7. During 2016 we cashed in our Luxembourg Assurance Vie which was less than 8 years old. I'm puzzling as to which box I should include the profit for tax purposes. Do I just include it in 2047 or in 2047 and 2042 Box 2TS. Logic tells me it should go in both but I'm scared of double declaring. Thanks
  8. Mint - you should have been declaring 13 payments per year on each of your previous tax returns unless you've only just started receiving state pension.
  9. Actually I thought it was illegal to rewire in France unless you are a qualified electrician. Perhaps I'm wrong. I do agree with you that both Gas and Electrics need special expertise.
  10. So sorry to hear about all of this, particularly with your operation imminent. Good luck with the operation. Just thin if you were in UK you'd not be having a hip op at present.....non urgent etc. You certainly do get to know who you friends are....We've been relatively lucky in Lot et Garonne with the weather; just a bit of rain and relatively strong winds. Keep your chin up Judith, I'm sure that everyone on this site is s ending positive thoughts your way.
  11. It is what I was thinking about, not that I'd necessarily want it. I was just curious to see what people think about how it would work in practise.
  12. This is what is supposed to be one of the changes in France for 2017. Maybe I have misunderstood but assumed that it was legislative. It is possibly only a commitment by the motor industry.
  13. Happy New Year one and all. How do contributors to the forum think that this will work? What are the obligations of the garage. For instance, last year we needed new brake caliper fittings for our aged Citroen C5. This year, how far would the garage have to go to locate these second hand parts...is this clear from the legislation? For me this is now just hypothesis but I'd be interested to know how others think that this might work. Can the garage just say "we can't locate 2nd hand parts"?
  14. Going back to TB jab, Mint, all the stuff I'm reading indicate that you get a reaction if you've been exposed to TB. Here's a web site (no good with getting the links up) http://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/tuberculin-skin-tests#1 This says that you get a red bump if you've been exposed to TB
  15. Hope that you get the courroire de distribution sorted relatively easily.
  16. Thanks Parsnips, We have established "separation des biens", but the fact is that it's not crucial for the form we were filling out. However, what you say is interesting as we were married in 1995 and celebrate our 10th anniversary of living in France this month....very appropriate and worth remembering for future reference.
  17. Thanks all for your advice. I suspect that what Norman said is right. I, too, feel that I've read that somewhere along the line. I don't think marriage regimes were discussed with the notaire as we bought "en tontine" at the time (in total ignorance of other alternatives).
  18. I imagine that most people on this site have thought about it and hope that it doesn't happen...`I'm sure that if she did she would be fighting for Frexit and would have little thought about us Brits here. Whoever gets in is going to make it tough on us - little doubt about that, particularly in the area of healthcare for S1 holders!
  19. We have some forms to fill in which requires us to notify our marriage regime in accordance with France. Anyone know the equivelant of a normal English marriage, without the nonsense of pre-nuptuals etc.
  20. They provide an excellent service. Cotton Traders use them and, with tracking, you can almost forecast when the stuff will arrive. Before now I've ordered stuff at Saturday 5pm and it's been delivered at 1pm on the following Monday.

Thanks Norman - that's most helpful

    Stress Ball

Anyone know where one might find one of these in France. A friend has a hand problem at the moment and feels that the exercise provided by one of these could be beneficial. Thanks all.
  23. From the link below the indications are that you can only take 3 pets at a time into France so that you might need several trips....https://www.justlanded.com/english/France/Articles/Moving/Pets-in-France
  24. The answer is in the term "basic". If you look at the various websites the basic bank account is a non cheque book account, though you can have a debit card. I think that, also, you'll find no favoured rates of interest availlable on these accounts. At least one provider states that you can only have a basic account on condition that you have no other current accounts with UK banks. These accounts have ben set up out of necessity.
