  1. Thanks for the info. That clears up a lot of confusion. Pose avec bande does lead one into other areas of one's life. Down the pub, my claim to fame was that I played with the Shadows at the Paris Olympia in 1978, but again another story. Thanks Aitch
  2. Further to earlier post and Clairs' links for plasterboard etc. I did not realise that there was such a bewildering choice of what's available. Basically, I want to insulate and plasterboard between the beams in our room. I have seen the sizes I want (2.8mx1.2m) but there is, 'placque de platres isolava' and 'placque de platres ADH.' both with and without, 'pose avec bande' and either 10mm or 13mm. I can't get a translation for the description, so the simple question is, what is the difference and which would be the best, or would either suffice? As for insulation, are there any similar, cheaper alternatives to 'Rockwool'? Thanks, Aitch
  3. Thanks, that's a great help Aitch
  4. I need to order insulation and plasterboard online but I am having difficulty in doing so. I have tried the 'placoplatre' in the search on the Mr Bricolage site for Argenton, and there is no response to the search. I assume I have the right word as per builders dictionary I have. Is there a specific name, or generic name that perhaps I do not know, for this? Am I right in thinking that it also comes in the standard size of  2.4 x 1.2 (8ft by 4ft)? The insulation (Rockwool) I need is also not found on the search. Could anyone direct me to what it is in French? Thanks Aitch

  6. Thanks for the detailed info. You are right. The cheeks that you can see in the photo are from the original ceiling that was taken down. Several will need replacing to go the way you suggest. Thankfully, the beams are relatively straight with little deviation, so no major curves or bends to cater for. (Different story with the walls). However, haven't come across the term 'chevron' you describe. My only thought is that, at the end of the plaster board the edges are cut at 45degrees, and butted together to make a smooth join. Is that what you mean or am I barking up the wrong tree in my understanding? Many thanks Aitch
  7. Thanks for that and a good photo too! Your ceiling appears to be very similar to what I want the finished article to be. When I called into the local brico the 'isolation thermique' that you have used is what they recommended to me given the space restraints betwenn the beams.  Any problems with using crepi as I had thought that a quick skim with plaster might be the route to go, for me anyway?  I'm looking for the simple easy option and although there will be 2 of us doing the job, I don't want too much stretching, unless it's for a beer! 8. Thanks for the kind words. Yes the DAC does focus the mind, but like the old song, 'you keep a knocking but you can't come in......come back tomorrow and try again', not that I want to!! Aitch
  9. I contributed to a post over a year ago regarding the ceiling insulation. I am now better after the heart attack so I want to complete this job, What is the best method and way to do it? 1. Use battens, Rockwool and plasterboard. 2. Use the metal tie-rod system and screw the plasterboard onto the supported hangers. 3. Use 'isolation thermique' which would appear to do all in one go, bearing in mind that I would want to achieve a reasobaly level looking ceiling. Any help, advice guidance much appreciated. Thanks Aitch
  10. Have you tried www.renaultforums.co.uk or the www.renaultownersclub.co.uk Aitch
  11. I have a UK model Laguna 2 and had the same warning come up after 6-7000mls and towards the end of its first year. The car mileage and usage-wise did not need a service but after checking with my garage, I had a service done. After the service I found out that there is a way to reset the alarm but you will need the Renault diagnostics laptop to achieve this. Best bet is to have a minor service with the reset being done. At least you have a stamp in the warranty book. Aitch
  12. Nice one! but didn't he throw this out of his pram after complaining about Rossi's riding and tactics? This week's edition of MCN had loads of letters berating his attitude. At least Rossi is able to accept defeat (when it happens) with a more gentlemanly attitude. Aitch
  13. If you want a different style of decal you could try www.reflectivedecals.com. I have no association with them other than purchasing from them in a motorcycle show some years ago. I still use them on my helmets, and if correctly positioned at the rear of the helmet also help to avoid any scratches where, if like me, you have a shelf that butts up against the garage wall. 14. Thanks for the suggegstions. I have used 'lasure' but don't want to have a wood stain. They did offer in the local brico to mix the black for me but I declined. It would be too much work to strip it back and re-do it again, as well as the fact that I have just sealed and repainted the plastered walls. I think it would create too much of a mess. It's the last room to be done and I still have to 'lasure' the staircase, as well as the insulation for the ceiling, and the tiling, shelving and electrics, and not forgetting to clean the floors. You can guess where the brush is going! Aitch
  15. Thanks for that Les, should do what it says on the tin. Aitch
  16. I want to paint the beams in our main room 'matt black' (which they have been previously) but cannot seem to find the right paint. I need to paint them before the insulation and plasterboard goes up. I have searched the forum archives and during our last visit a couple of weeks ago tried the local 'brico' and the 'Leroy Merlins' etc. Unfortunately they had nothing. Since returning home have tried the B and Q's .and cannot find any matt black type paint to do the job. Could anyone point me in the right direction as to what I want, so it can be done during our next visit.  Many thanks Aitch
  17. You could try www.slaterlaverda.com (main uk shop) or the International Laverda Owners Club, www.iloc.co.uk They might be able to help. Aitch
  18. I am faced with a similar scenario as you. For my solution I have found that it might be easier to consider using, 'isolation thermique', which is plasterboard backed with a dense polystyrene, which comes in a variety of thicknesses. Available from Mr. Bricolage but obviously other similar outlets as well. Try the Mr. Bricolage website, rechecher 'isolation'   and look for 'doublage platre+laine de verre 10-80mm. This will give you an idea of what it looks like, but if you visit Mr. Bricolage, you will get a better idea of thicknesses to do what you want. It's easy enough to cut and trim by just using a Stanley knife and a saw. Hope this helps Aitch
  19. Michael Martin aka 'Gorbals Mick' was featured on the news last night and he was shown playing the bagpipes, so with a bit more time on his hands he may be looking to do a little bit on the side. No fees, just pay for the taxi! Aitch
  20. Try a Google search for 'Rotax Motorcycle Manual' and you might get a few links, but currently on ebay(uk) at the moment is item No. 180218798985, which covers quite a few models I think. Hope this helps, Aitch
  21. I need to reposition the 2 lights in the ceiling in the main room to a central position before the insulation and plasterboarding is done. I need to extend the existing wiring a distance of about 3-feet for both lights. What is the best way of joining and/ or extending the cable to the new position? (the existing wiring is brand new and meets all the regs etc.). Thanks, Aitch
  22. No roof bars fitted. It's just a plain roof. Not even a roof aerial to worry about, so the height might just be borderline. I don't suppose that the autoroutes will be that busy middle of March, and it's our usual route but the first time with the van. I wouldn't have thought that there is a great difference between the vehicle height of the Discovery's and the transit. I suppose I could always try the Sahara method and let the air out of the tyres! Aitch
  23. Thanks for the replies. Looks like I'll have to join those queues, C'est la vie! Aitch
  24. I will be using a Transit Van for my next visit. It has a height of 2m5cms. Does anyone know if this will this go underneath the telepeage barriers if I use my transponder? I cannot seem to find the relevant information on the Sanef website.Any info much appreciated. Aitch
  25. Haven't seen Dion but last night had a treat in seeing Joe Brown with Dave Edmunds, with a combined age of 130+. Only trouble was the number of yellow badges and zimmer frames in the car park afterwards. Superb show with a lot of the old songs and hits. Just as well my grey hair blended in, but is there any thing worse than a bald 'old ' teddy boy. Aitch
