  1. Hi Koiman, I have a 55cm piece of UK 110mm plastic pipe left over from building my koi pond. Please email me if you can use it. The 110mm pipe here does not fit UK slide or ball valves. I used rubber couplings to connect between UK 110mm pipe and French 100mm pipe with no problems ie no leaks. I am in the Southern Charente near Villebois Lavalette Cheers Bob
  2. I have just called the MB dealership where I bought my car and I spoke to a salesman and yes there is a prohibition on exporting used cars from one country to another. There is an embargo on selling MB cars to certain south-east asian countries but they have been getting round it by buying in UK and then taking the car abroad!
  3. Hi Barrington, I did exactly the same in Oct 2009 without any problems. I looked at used cars here and the prices were very high compared with UK so I bought a 7 month old E220 CDI from MB Maccclesfield(09 reg). I used my daughter's address for tax and insurance. I told the salesman where we lived and he ok with using my daughter's address for tax and insurance. There was a CoC in the handbook. I had a new speedo and lights fitted here. Overall I saved about £9000. The only problem was an officious guy in the tax office who said I could not register it as it was less than six months old- rubbish. I went back with a fluent french speaking friend and there was no problem this time as we saw a very helpful woman. I think MB are having a laugh.
  4. Hi Chicken, This is my experience After checking prices in France, I went back to the UK, re-registered the car I brought over 3 years previously and traded it in for a 6 month old car and even after paying for new LHD lights and a new speedo unit (It is a Merc and there are no KPH markings on the speedo on UK cars) and paying €1000 to register it in France I saved about €8000!
  5. Kit, We bought in the south Charente in 2005 and only used a translator at the Notaires. Our french at that time was non-existant but we managed to reduced the price by €10,000 and saved the estate agent's fees. The french people we bought the house off took us out to dinner after the signing, they spoke no english!(it was an experience)! Best of luck
  6. I have used 40mm Floplast compression fittings from Screwfix, they fit French 40mm waste pipe - the 32mm fittings however do not fit French 32mm pipe!
  7. Anton It was introduced on 1st Jan 2008. See this website for full details http://www.nord.pref.gouv.fr/page.php?P=data%2Fdemarches%2Fcarte_grise%2Fecotaxe%2F You get a 10% reduction for each year your have owned the car.
  8. Wilko, 1) There is a typo "the car must be 6 months only " it should read "the car must be 6 months old". 2) If it were a new car exported from UK then it would be VAT free but TVA would be paid in France. 3) Cars producing between 166 and 200 gm/km of carbon dioxide attract a 750€ one off payment called Eco-taxe then there is the 318€ for the Carte grise plus 4€ Taxe de gestion and 2.50€ Affranchissement.
  9. I thought I would put down my experience of registering my car in France. The car is second hand, 7 months old and has done 15000 miles and was bought in UK. I took all the necessary forms and bits of paper to the tax office to get the quittus fiscal. The lady there took one look at the receipt and said I needed a receipt showing no VAT as I was a french resident. (I understand the rules are that the car must be 6 months only AND have covered 4000 miles or 6000 kms.) I explained this to her but she was not having any of it. So I went back again a couple of weeks later with a friend who is French and this time a different woman took one look and the forms and gave me a quittus fiscal form to fill in! It would seem that civil servants here make up the rules as they go along. Today I queued in the Prefecture for an hour and came out with a temporary carte gris ( they were having computer problems) having been relieved of 1047€.
  10. J.R. I have just tried the Amiens site and it is working ok. This is the link I used   http://www.bricodepot.fr/amiens/   Regards Bob
  11. Hi Dave, I also have a similar problem regarding a new chimney. Did you get the metal bracket supporting the blocks specially made or can you get it 'off the shelf ' at a brico? Thanks in advance. Bob
  12. Mike, I obtained a CT while the van had English plates with no problems - I understand that you need a CT before you can register it here. The CT cost €55 for the van.
  13. Mike, I have a 3.5 ton van (LDV Convoy) and just booked a appointment at the local CT station.  The CT guy never asked the weight of the van as there are several models from 2.1t upwards Cheers Bob
