  1. It sounds to me, Rowan, that you are half way to adopting her.  I know the oldies come with some problems but what sort of existance do they have at this time. She could give you many years of devotion.   Some Vets do allow monthly payments so worth enquiring. We spent an absolute fortune on our old Lady who died last year, money we could ill afford but she was worth very penny or should I say euro. Good luck in your decision and you must do what is best for you and the little lady Beagle.
  2. Yes it did as she is still very upset today. She decided to carry on with her journey as she said that she would not have got back into her car again if she had come straight home. She went to a Supermarche and an elderly man had a stroke in front of her. She waited with him until the medics arrived so all in all a nasty afternoon for her.
  3. My friend was driving very slowly to the nearest town yesterday due to snow and ice when a Chasse dog ran straight out in front of her. She tried to brake but ubfortunately hit it. She found a Marshall and told him and he promptly shot it. She is in a dreadful state and cannot stop crying, she is a true dog lover with four of her own. I know it was the kindest thing to do but the Hunt do not seem to be as soft as we are and they just carried on with what they were doing which upset my friend even more.
  4. My pots of Chrysanthamums have now finished flowering and the root system is coming through the base now. Can I plant them into the garden and if yes when do I put them outside. I have cut off all dead flowers and now they are about 8 ins. tall so I was worried about frost.
  5. HE SLEPT LAST NIGHT ...Phew.  I tried changing his feeding times so not sure if that was the problem or not so time will tell. No, he is not aggitated when we see to him during the night, quite pleased to see us in fact. Maybe eating later was upsetting him, we will see tonight. Thank you for all your advice and I am sure we will get to the bottom of it in time.
  6. I did wonder if he is just playing us up the same as a toddler would. He does not seem to be in any discomfort at all and apart from being filthy dirty did not seem have suffered from his escapade with the hedge a few weeks ago. It is very hard to try to ignore him as he goes on and on and OH has told him off quite strongly but then once we are just nodding off he starts again.  I am praying he will settle tonight as we are not used to broken nights sleep as it has been hundreds of years since the kids woke us up and we  are ancient and need our kip. [:)]
  7. I had not thought of that. He has his cumfy bed that he loves and has slept there for over three years now BUT it has all started since he went missing a few weeks ago and OH found him totally snagged up in a hedge and he could not move. So, yes, maybe he is still feeling stressed. Thank you for the advice.
  8. Why has our Labrador decided to bark most of the night ? He started last week and we have only had one night where he slept right through and OH has to get up and walk him around the garden in case he needs to do his business but Murphy just has a nice little walk around several times during the night. We close the shutters so that he is not disturbed by Rabbits or Cats so that is not the problem but we are two very tired people.  Any suggestions welcome before we give him sleeping tablets   LOL.
  9. Shame they could not have reinstated flights to Bristol from any airport other than Toulouse for the Xmas period. We are now having to drive for six hours and then a six hour crossing ( it will be rough I just know it ). Coming back we are having to do Poole to Cherbourg as BF are not resuming any crossings from Plymouth to Roscoff until February. I bet if Ryan air knew that they might have thought twice about cancelling flights to  Bristol.
  10. Thank you and yes we are very relieved. What was so worrying was the lead that snapped was an extending one and he ran off with about ten foot of lead still attached to his collar. When OH found him he had got entangled in the hedgerow and was unable to move at all. As he was found really off the beaten track and a path that very few people would use, it does not bear thinking about and sheer luck that OH decided to go in that direction also the Chasse would be out and about on Wednesday as well.  He is one very  lucky dog and at present curled up in front of the log burner. I don't think wewill ever use an extending lead again.
  11. FOUND !!!!!  OH found him after his third trip out in the car and the Lab was caught up in hedgerow and looking very scared. Our garden is totally secure but his leaad snapped while OH was out walking him this morning and Murphy just legged it. Thank you, Russethouse, for the info.

  12. Our Labrador did a runner this morning and OH has been out for four hours looking for him and friends in neighbouring villages as well. No sign of him at all and OH is going out again this afternoon. If we cannot find him what is the procedure, who do we noritfy that he is missing. We will put adverts in our local Supermarket and also in our Vets. We are  beside ourselves with worry as he is  a rescue and although we have had him for over three years he has always had a  wonderlust. I do not know if he will have the sense to find his wayback.
  13. Thank you for that info and we will definately check it out. We have to go to Plymouth which is almost two hours further than Bristol but if is a lot cheaper then worth considering. I am sure all the  people who want to get to the West Country will do it one way or another.
  14. I agree, Rose, OH does not  mind the drive but I hate it. Especially on the return journey as it does seem endless and we normally get home around 1 o clock in the morning. Yes, Toulouse looks as though it will be the way to go as I hate to ask family to drive too far to collect us.  Equally so, OH hates being without a car so we normally hire one. That all adds to the expense of our trip  to see family. As I stated earlier, the flights from Bergerac, Bordeaux were always full but then I suppose unless they are full the entitre winter months it is not viable for the airlines. The last time we travelled back to France via Britainny Ferries in January we had the boat almost to ourselves so it makes sense. for them to have no crossings until February. Not good for us though. !!!
