1.
You now have 20 days from the postmark date to renew or reject a premium.
Just to say that if you do this, which has to be done by AV postal service, make sure that you quote the "Loi Chatel".  Wanting to get my mutuelle cancelled at the end of the year I sent a letter off to them within the 20 days of receiving my renewal notice, stating that I did not want to renew.  I spent a difficult half hour with a very belligerent insurance employee who point blank would not accept the letter as I had't mentioned the above law.  I will now have to wait until I have a written attestation from CPAM stating that we cannot be in the health system.  Hester.
2.
The Limousin area office just gave me the thumbs down , so it is appeal time for me.
That's bad news Krusty, we are in the Limousin too.  I'm about to throw in the towel after a nasty experience at my mutuelle office yesterday.  Even if we get an extension until March it just means more weeks of stressing,  especially for those with medical problems already.  Just reading the small print in Private Medical Insurance terms and conditions adds to the worry; there are so many illnesses that would not be covered if they become chronic that it doesn't seem worthwhile trying to fund PM. Regards, Hester.
3.
Of course, it could be that the famous CPAM circular has arrived (but not yet officially 'live') and that it does actually provide for E106 holders to transfer to CMU?  If the Brittany CPAM are expecting the new ruling to be officially in place by the time the application is processed, then it would make sense for them to recommend that it be submitted....
How your positive postings keep me going Sunday Driver.  Not sure whether this one is "tongue in cheek" , but whatever.  Until we hear for sure I'm still hoping that there might be a chance for those of us resident before 30th Sept.  This way I can sleep nights - well for a while longer anyway. Thanks for the info Sunshine2, useful to know what's happening elsewhere.  Regards Hester.
4. I have just read it this weekend, I will download the draft that you have provided and add it to the file that I will be taking to the CPAM in the next few weeks. Regards Hester.
5. Well who are we?  Those of us who might not have cause to celebrate when the big announcement is made, in spite of the very best of efforts from fellow forum members. Are you coping with the stress of it all?  We will be cashing in a life assurance policy to fund PMI, rather ironic really. Hester and OH, 58 and 57,one minor pre-exisiting medical condition which fortunately at the moment will only mean purchase of medicines.  E106 runs out Jan 08, been in France since July 05. Still sitting on the questionnaire from the CPAM.  Trying to cancel my current top-up at the end of this year.  Not done enough research yet on PM companys. How many more out there? (have you read the latest on the French Health Issues website re E106ers in Britanny) Regards, Hester.
6. Poppy, I'm sorry that I panicked you about the E121.  It's just that at the moment we're all trying to work out what's best for the future after what's been happening and you begin wonder just what else might be in the pipeline.   Anyway many thanks for posting about your call to Newcastle.  Regards Hester.
7.
The same law that closed off access to the CMU by requiring private insurance, also introduced a minimum income requirement.
A minimum income for what?  For new comers to France? Is this the required income that you have mentioned? There must be people already claiming RMI who have been living here a while and some who perhaps have more than the minimum income at the moment but may in the future  need to seek help via RMI.   Regards,Hester.
8.
. ie  If you are getting RMI then you get CMU.
Do you think that this will stay the same?  Do you think that if anyone on a low income applied for RMI they would then be able to affiliate to CMU?  Hester.
9. Just received a reply from my mutuelle stating that I cannot cancel as I have missed the two month end of the year deadline.  This is in spite of me sending a recorded letter within the 20 days of the annual renewal notice, quoting the "Loi Chatel". A point of interest for anyone who is writing to Newcastle for their extension/refusal letter, we thought that ours had expired at the original date 1st Jan 2007 (wish that it had then we could have affiliated!) and we were quite surprised when did receive an extension to 2008 due to Newcastle taking quite a while to update NI contribution records.  So its possible that some people might hopefully get another year yet.  We came July 2005 and are covered until Jan 2008.  Regards Hester.
10. I am posting this for information although I think that I have read of someone else receiving such a letter I can't find in now amongst all the postings.  Edit, sorry I have found that this info has already been posted, however any feed back yet from the CPAM for anyone? The letter, from CPAM, informs us that our E106 ends in January and "pour nous permettre de continuer a assurer votre protection sociale. veuillez demander la prolongation de votre formulaire E106 a votre caisse anglaise".  I know that a letter of refusal from Newcastle has always been necessary before being apply to apply for affiliation to the CMU.  It goes on to say if an extension is refused we should send this refusal letter to the CPAM and we have the following options: "Dependre du Regime general, si vous avez une activite en France", get an E121 if you are in receipt of govt pension, or if the above don't apply complete the attached questionnaire and return it to CPAM together with CV "pour regulariser de votre dossier" The questionnaire is asking if we are in receipt of RMI, allowance from ASSEDIC, are we salaried or running gites/bed & breakfast.  As these do not apply to us I am considering doing nothing at the moment as I do not want to part with my CV until absolutely necessary. Has anyone else received/returned such a questionnaire?  If so could you tell me what, if any, response you had from the CPAM. Thanks, Hester.
11. Thanks Sunday Driver, I will go over to see them I think, I'm just so scared of ending up wasting precious resources by maybe having to double up on insurance payments if I don't get it cancelled in time.
12. Thanks for the reply sweet 17, useful to hear that you have found them to be OK.  Since my previous posting I have managed to get some more information from their website and I will continue to try and get them on the 'phone.  Just about to cancel my mutuelle to be sure that I've done it within the 20 days from the renewal notice that we've just received, bit worried about changing things but it has to be done.  Good luck to everyone else out there who like us will be having to get things sorted  pdq. Hester.
13. exclusivehealthcare Could I ask if anyone has had problems getting through to the above company recently?  Their website has "crashed" at the application form stage for top up and I have been put straight onto answerphone when I have telephoned on several occasions over the past few days. I am assuming that they are very busy at the moment, but as I saw their company as maybe being an affordable option for January I'm a bit disconcerted that I can't make contact.  Also for anyone who uses them do you know if they accept credit card payments over the phone as I've been stung in the past on the internet.  Many thanks, Hester.
14. Thanks, I have checked it out and hopefully this might suit us.  It's just a case of when to commit isn't it?  I am going to read through the small print that I have downloaded to check what notice we need to give on our Mutuelle.  I keep hanging on just in case.  Many thanks to all of you who are putting in so much hard work on behalf of us all.  Hester.
15. I am like many others I'm sure needing to get some private health quotes sorted before January.  I keep burying my head in the sand then having a go at dealing with it.  Yesterday after trawling the high street none of the companies I spoke to could offer me full insurance - Groupama, AGF, AXA. GMF and my own current Mutuelle Eovi.  My heart sinks when I see the premiums required from some of the online sites that I have visited and I wondered if anyone has been successful in finding cover under around 3,500 euros for 55-60 age bracket.  I will of course continue to search and let you know if I have any success. Many thanks, Hester.
16. Thanks for your replies, especially reassuring to see that someone has been in the same position as I will be without the full number of years.
17. Like you 106 runs out in January.  I am probably going to cancel as soon as I receive my renewal notice.  Mine is a French Mutuelle and I have decided that with all the uncertainty, things could change again in the future, I would rather be with a company who also offers full private medical insurance so that if/when I need to take this I will already be affiliated to the company and hopefully the age that I join and any health conditions that may develop will be taken into consideration and accepted.  It's a shame that the French Mutuelles don't offer full cover because for many of us we are now going to have to join a new company having reached a more expensive age bracket.  The French companies are going to notice a downturn in business aren't they?
18. Having finally decided that I will have to get to grips with sorting out our health cover one way or another before January, in order to help me look at all the very many variables I would be grateful if anyone could help with the following points: Has anyone received their E121 form whilst reaching 60/65 and living in France for which part of their eligiblity to UK pension has been made up of paying NI contributions whilst living in France rather than working in the UK?  I ask this because part of my decision making rests on my definitely being entitled to an E121 in a couple of year's time.  I have always assumed that it would be available on receipt of a UK state pension, but am now beginning to wonder if their might be some loopholes, such as it meaning full UK state pension. Does anyone have an E121 who is only receiving a proportion of the UK state pension, ie didn't have enough NI contributions for the full amount but were still eligible to the E121?   Again this will help me to decide whether to top up my four year's needed to bring me up to the full pension, or use the money towards private health care.  I too am going to look into self-employment but I wouldn't like to reach 60 only to find that I am not eligible for the E121 and at that point might possibly not be able to enter Private Insurance if any illnesses develop between now and then.  Thanks.
