  1. Hi Clair If I ring 3000 will I get an english speaking person?  We don't speak very good french unfortunatley on the phone!  Our FT/Orange shop in Souillac doesn't speak english either. Seashells
  2. Could someone please enlighten me to how I can cancel our telephone service with France Telecom?  We no longer need the phone in our house in France as we have decided to just use mobiles which work perfectly well in our part of the Lot!  As we only spend 12 weeks a year in France I feel as the credit crunch is biting we should cancel our line & return our phone if only I knew how!!  Thanks for any help! 3. Hello I am sure this must have been asked before but I cant find anything relevant unless I'm just not looking properly!  I have read Claire's cancellation letters (thanks!).  We no longer need our livebox which by the way has worked briliantly!! - No problems with it whatsoever, but we are only in our house for 12 weeks a year - which is why we no longer need it!! I am paying a monthly subscription for very little usage - we thought we would be living here by now - but things have a habit of changing very slowly in our lives!!!  So..... I need to return the livebox to Orange, - can anyone tell me how to do it??  I have cancelled the subscription with my bank from next month (will have had the box for 14 months by then), I have adapted Claire's letter - but where do I send it back to???  I took it into our local Orange shop who told me (I think!!) that they were just agents for France telecom & that to send it by courier to the registered address????!!!!  But could not give me an address.  Please help if you can.  I am going back to the UK this week so I am taking livebox with me, in the hope I can send it back from there when I find out where to send it!! 4. Thanks for all information.  We have contacted Klargester as well as Neve & will look into both when we get back to France. It is good to know about the new regs for next year - however we don't have anything to discharge waste into even after filtering (except the street!)  so we will still nedd to have the final 'bit' emptied at some stage I think! We'd love to visit (!!) however you are a bit far away for a de-tour this time - perhaps another time if we don't get fixed up! Thanks to all participants who have contributed to the original message - it's nice to know we're not alone! Seashells[:)]
  5. Thanks for all of those!!!   Seashells
  6. Does anyone know the opening times over the Xmas holidays of Ikea at Toulouse?  Need to go, but as it involves an overnight stay, would hate it to be closed!!   Seashells
  7. Does anyone know where to get any woodburning stove flue pipe 150m diameter in the Lot department 46, (Souillac area), prices etc, & if they will be open at all over the Xmas holidays?   Seashells
  8. Hi My new laptop has got Vista on it.  It is this one which will be coming to France to have Livebox installed on it.  However, I brought the livebox french instructions back to the uk with me and when looking again there is a separate disk enclosed which says 'windows vista' - so you never know I might be able to get this going Ok. All I can do is try - thanks for all your input.  I will keep you posted once I've tried it!  Won't be till after Xmas though! Wish me luck!   Seashells
  9. Hi  This is not a problem yet, however I feel it might be & I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations! When we were in France in the summer at our house in department 46, we subscribed to Orange Livebox for telephone via the internet & broadband.  However  at the time we didn't have our laptop with us! So couldn't try it out anyway. The phone could be used via ordinary through France telecom. We now have a new computer back in the UK which is on a Windows Vista operating system.  Since getting this we have had a few problems getting our English broadband set up and I was on the phone for 95minutes to our ISP to get this sorted.  Seems OK now! I have a nasty feeling when I take the laptop to France at Xmas & try to set up Orange Livebox on it I will encounter difficulties!!  I may just be being pesimistic but somehow I don't think so!  Does anyone know anything about livebox and/or have any instructions in English that I can try, as all are in French naturally & my French is not THAT good!  Is there a helpdesk out there where I can get help with this if I need it (English speaking)? Just reading Will's recommendation FAQ's, I am wondering if the disk that came to set up livebox will work on this computer? HELP ME!! Seashells
  10. I think your problem could be one of two things. 1. Condensation building up because of the type of wood you are using, or condensation in the chimney flu.  You could, re-chimney flu , install a full length of pipe from the top of the woodburner to near chimney outlet on the top of your house. 2. This could be a tar build-up caused by years of wood not being hot enough in the woodburner, which in turn leaves the sticky deposit on the chimney flu itself, this gives a sort of runny substance between tar & creosote you are talking about.  Stovax make a product which you put on the woodburner whilst it is hot which helps to overcome this problem. Hope this advice helps!  Godd luck Seashells
  11. We have a village house in a small hamlet in the Lot (dept 46), we cannot install a Fosse Septique as there is not enough land on our property.  The current waste from the house runs into a concrete holding tank (Cistern) in the front garden (approx 25cubic metres).  This is covered by a raised manhole ( looks like a well). We wish to separate the raw sewerage from grey water and need to install a tank to collect this and keep the current cistern for raw sewerage, which we know will have to be emptied periodically. We find the cistern filling at an alarming rate!!! and we have not even got a washing machine or dishwasher yet!!  A regular bath is also out of the question!  Help!!!  In the future we hope to install three further shower rooms in the converted barn attached to the main house. We have no hope of mains drains as the commune is small & the rest of the hamlet seems to either have enough land for a fosse septique or runs a series of hose pipes down the lane!!!  As we do not wish to do this we would be grateful for any help or advice to solve this problem. When we bought the property - the robbing estate agent said we could fit a fosse septique alongside the exsisting cistern and all grey water could collect in the cistern to water the garden with!  This is not true. We have to get a solution for this problem, and hope anyone out there may have an answer.  We know that this system which in in place at the moment will have been fitted to lots of other houses in France - we are not the only ones!! So can anyone help please? Seashells[8-)]
