  1. Thank you for those who replied. A friend of mine took the door to a local Bricomarche and got a quote for 43 euros. The best price I was given in the UK was £60. Looks like France wins this time.
  2. I have the 6.5kw stove which is smaller
  3. Has anyone been to a vet to bring a dog back under the new regulations? I just wondered if there is a reduction in costs. Now you are just having to pay a vet to give a worming tablet, but one still has to make an appointment and the vet will have to stamp the passport. Why could they not allow you to show proof of purchase as being acceptable. If you buy the tablet, you will surely give it to the dog. More beaurocrocy and expense.
  4. This is a follow up to a previous thread of mine in regard to the glass being broken. The model is the 6.5kw Godin 3144 Regence model. Has anyone got the same one and would be willing to give me the dimensions for the glass including the thickness. I am currently in the UK and the feedback seems to indicate that it will be cheaper to buy it here. Thank you.
  5. Thank you to those who replied. It does seem as if it will be quite expensive. Not a 10 euro job.
  6. My daughter has just come back from staying at our French house. Unfortunately she broke the glass in our Godin Regent wood burning stove. All the shops were shut, so she was unable to do anything. My questions are 1. Where would you normally buy the glass. 2. Is it simply enough to replace oneself. 3. Might it be cheaper to buy in the UK. We are not going back for another month. Our house in on the Charent/Dordogne border near Riberac if anyone knows of a local supplier.
  7. Thank you both for taking the time to reply. I will be leaving the cover on, except when swimming, which with the current weather, looks like lasting into October - another first.
  8. To heat the swimming pool during the day, is it best to leave the cover on? At present the pool temperature is about 23 degrees, and we are enjoying temperatures of about 30 degrees at present. Somebody told me to leave the cover on in order to raise the temperature, and the next person tells me to take it off and let the sun's rays warm it.
  9. If one is prepared to walk half a mile up river, vou come across a part of the river which is very quiet. However looking into the water, you can see 30 or 40 quite large carp just lazing in the sun. I have tried throwing in some dog biscuits which float, but they dont seem interested. Any ideas for catching them.
  10. I would just like to thank Theiere for his advice. The vitamin C tablets worked a treat.
  11. Thank you for the replies. I will try the vitamin tablets. Emptying the pool is a bit extreme.
  12. I have a fibre glass pool. One of those cheap childrens fishing net was left on the bottom for a couple of days, leaving a round rust mark. Normal scrubbing does nothing to shift it. Any help gratefully received.
  13. Can't help with what you are looking for, but with my hanging baskets, I cut up sponges to the size of sugar lumps, and mix it with the compost. Seems to work quite well. It also helps that Poundland sell 3 for the price of - you've guessed it - £1.
  14. Thank you Theiere for your time. Regards Nick
  15. I have 2 digiboxes, and have never had a problem accessing subtitles. However one of them has now decided to show the current text at the bottom of the screen, and the following line above it. Gets worse when you have " lines. You have to read the bottom line first, then the top, followed by the middle. I am assuming it is something I have pressed unknowingly, but cannot seem to rectify it. Many thanks.
  16. Thank you both for your replies. When I put the hoover near the dirt on the bottom, I can see it being sucked up, so I think that it not a problem. I will try 'giving it a stir' however. I am never too sure what the laterals are. Having read my manual, I think that they are the pipes that return the water into the filter box but I would like somebody just to confirm that. Thanks.
  17. My pool is 3 years old. This year, after vacuuming the pool, the following day, I have just the same amount of dirt lying on the bottom. If I clean the pool every day, I seem to have th same amount of dirt. If I do not clean the pool for several days, the dirt does not seem to increase. I am concrned that the sand filter is not doing its job, and the dirt is just being returned to the pool. I have not opened the filter tank, but looking with a torch through the top, it would appear that the sand comes to about two thirds up the tank, and seems to containa certain amount of gravel type substance. I only have access to the internet every few days, but any help gratefully received. Thanks.
  18. It is planted in open ground. I should have stated originally that there is a quite a high level of calcaire in the ground. When I planted it, I was told to water it well on the first day, and then leave it for 3 weeks. After that it was watered every 5/7 days, as we did have a very dry summer. Thanks for your input.
  19. We planted a wisteria in June and it has grown about 15 feet since that time. However the leaves turned yellow after a few weeks, although they did stay on. I did seek the advice of the nursery where I bought it, and they sold me a bottle of granules that were to be mixed with water, and applied every week. Unfortumately I no longer have the bottle, so can't give the name of it, bit it did no good at all. Can anyone help please? We are currently back in the UK, so cannot do anything until February.
  20. Thank you for taking the time for your full explanation. As I am going within the next week, I hope I can use the following ''Carte Vacances: Valid for all fishing for the holiday period, 1 June to 31 December .''
  21. P&O are still the most flexible. I think the cost of your 12trips is £29.50 per single trip, but you can buy 6 trips for £33 approx. You can also book family and friends to use the tickets, without having to travel with them. You can also have 2 cars travelling at the same time. If you travel at peak times there is a surcharge but it only applies July and August between 10am - 10pm. You can also amend your tickets at no charge, and several times I have arrived early at the port, and have always been given an earlier boat. With almost hourly departures, you don't have the worry of missing the boat and having to wait several hours for another one.
  22. I am sure these questions have been asked before but couldn't find the answers. 1. Our house is on the Charente/Dordogne border. Do I need licences from both the departments, or can I buy one licence that covers me for both? 2. Does the licence cover you for one year from date of purchase, or does it run for 12 months starting at a certain month? 3. Finally, the costs please? I would be grateful if someone could answer the above without sending me to a french link.
  23. Thanks for the replies. Although we do have the well, it is fed by an underwater stream, and I have in the past emptied the well if I run the pump for too long. Hence my thoughts as to purchasing water reservoirs to save water for the drier spells.
  24. Don't know where you are in the Charente, but we are at Saint Severin and we had the local joinery company make our shutters for us. His name is Capdebos and is in the Pages Jaunes. I'm in the UK at the moment otherwise I'd give you more information on him. He will come out and measure and fit if required.
