  1. As an absolute non tekky I have been trying to follow all the various posts regarding sky cards and freesat boxes and am still pretty confused. Please can I ask what I think is a very straightforward question?? (and hope to get a very SIMPLE answer????) A few years back we had a sky satdish and sky box installed in France. now after several days of constant warnings about inserting a new card we have lost the sky programmes. Following advice on this site I removed the sky card and now we have BBC and ITV channels but of course not the Discovery channels which we usually watch! Is installing a FREESAT box (NOT SKY FREESAT!!!)  the best way forward? Will said that he had sucessfully installed a HUMAX HD BOX...Did you buy this in England Will???  There seem to be lots of different freesat boxes...which to buy ...and where??? I'm going to GB next week......
  2. Just got some new English neighbours..and they are asking me questions to which I don't quite know the answers!! Hoped that someone could help with the following.....they have, as yet, mad no healthcare provisions(!) and were wondering, if sudenly taken ill, they could turn up at a Doctor and pay for a consultation/treatment???
  3. Have just got some new English neighbours..and they keep asking me questions that I find hard to answer.....As soon as they get their internet connection sorted out I shall direct them to this site!!!!! Until then some advice to pass on....the best place to  purchase a new telephone handset??? Supermarket such as Carrefour???or France Telecom Office/shop???? annswer much appreciated!!
  4. Overwhelmed by the response to my wimping...I've certainly got a lot of bedtime reading and enough teccy stuff to blow my mind! Thank you everyone for your most helpful contributions!
  5. Sadly our old English telly has finally gone to  meet its maker and as an extremely non teccy person I'm finding the choice of new sets utterly bewildering. I've been reading up and  think that what I want is a 32" LCD Full HD digital..and looking at them working in places like BUT the Samsung and LG seem to have very good pictures. HOWEVER...sometimes ones sees picture in which are terribly distorted...  people with short fat bodies..is this just because the set is not properly adjusted or is there some deeper problem with all the new formats that I haven't grasped.....also I presume that the telly I've described will work with my sky set up???? Would it be better (and cheaper) to buy in GB  where I might, just might, understand more of the teccy stuff.??....Any advice will be MOST GRATEFULLY received!!
  6. Although I've made various purchases from these emporiums I've been wondering how to use them to sell some stuff. Should I just turn up with it in the back of the van..and then what???? Please advise!!! Tazara
  7. Help! I've had a french mobile for about 3 years now and most days I text my cousin in England. I'm Bougytel she's Orange. About a month ago I found that I was not receiving her texts  but she was still receiving mine. Wierd. Phone calls are fine. Voice messages fine. I can exchange text messages with other Orange users in UK. Orange say its not their fault and I must contact Bougytel. I can't find a telephone number for Bougytel and when I go on the website.....impossible to find a way of contacting them re my problem. I just want to talk to someone on the phone!!!!!! Can any kind teccy person out there PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!! Waiting with fingers crossed...Tazara
  8. Just thought that it was about time that I said a 'Thank You' to all those kind people who have offered me helpful advice over the past 8 years! THANK YOU ALL!  As  Marushka, I received lots of information and ideas regarding our move to France, and I also 'met' those who have since become great friends. ...and now, after looking at some excellent websites for voitures d'occasion  I would like to boldly request some guidance regarding the purchase of second hand cars in France...we have been lucky in the past...but what paper work is really essential?
  9. Unfortunately, our much loved ancient rust heap of a Mercedes is not going to pass it's next CT and we must find a replacement. We would be VERY grateful if anyone could suggest hunting grounds for second hand cars in NW France. What makes it more difficult is that we don't like 'new' old cars...our van is from the seventies as was the Merc.......
  10. Hoping that some whizz kid out there  can help with this!!! Have an old Mitsubishi tv CT-21A5STX and have lost remote. Purchased a telecommande universelle from Lidl but, I'm told,  need a code to activate this...code that was, apparently, on the lost remote! Anyone know this code or how I can obtain it??? VERY grateful for any help. (PS I'm NOT VERY TECCY..........!!!!!!) Thanks (in anticipation!) xx Tazara
  11. We have an electric planer.....SO USEFUL!!! purchased in GB which has suddenly stopped working....would be grateful if anybody could suggest where we could get it repaired???? We live near to Gorron ( northern Mayenne)  Thanks in anticipation!!!!! Tazara
  12. Hi Chris! I'm in the northern borderlands of Mayenne, near GORRON...(.East of FOUGERES which is  Brittany!) West of DOMFRONT which is Normandy!!!) These owls as too far down the chimney to reach ie it would be impossible to lift them out.....It's a huge chimney with several compartments...they roost in the one under which we light no fires but are obviously enjoying the warmth from the flue which currently carries the smoke and heat from our woodburner! Clever old owls!
  13. When we started to repair our chimney we discovered that it was home sweet home for two large barn owls! During all the noisy repairs they sat tight. Now we need to install a chimney liner and block off the opening..unfortunately the owls will have to find themselves another roost. We have asked them very politely to leave but they are sitting tight..in fact, during the daylight hours they seem to be comatose! As there is NO WAY any of us is climbling out onto that roof at night to block off  the opening...what can we do to get them to leave?????Any ideas very gratefully received!! ( obviously NOTHING that will harm these beautiful birds in any way whatsoever!)
