1.
Much more realistic view of France  than most, even if they suffered from the usual failure to research and prepare properly Very perceptive on the 'BACs'[:)] 'The BACs insist on being called 'expats' rather than immigrants because, of course, immigrants are one of the reasons they left the UK.' and 'They also miss the point that having contributed almost nothing in taxes to the French Government, they will hitherto be referred to by the locals as 'bloody immigrants, abusing our healthcare system'.
Thought you would like the BAC's Norman[:D] However, as I accept I am in immigrant, I am not a BAC, I'm not a BB as I speak french well (so I am told), and I don't think I am twisted (hence not a BAT), what am I?[8-)] I hope it was badly edited, as I thought it was just more tosh designed to sell a book.
 2.
It was interesting how the husbands (pay attention, men!) appeared to be the ones struggling most with the language
Sorry S17, I arrived here with slightly worst French than my wife, but am now streets ahead of her, though she can do very well at times[:D] A bit of a generalisation there me thinks[;-)] Thank you Clair.
 3. See here for a clip. And the program was briefly discussed here. (worth merging mods?)
 4. Absolutely agree 100% dave21478.  And it can never be said often enough, NO one has ever been forced to book and fly on Ryanair.
 5.
On finishing i was told i would need FIMO next year if i wanted to drive.
Take a look at this thread.
 6.
One of the things I love is the privacy. You can talk in English in public places and 99% of people don't know what you are talking about. I live in rural France, and most can barely speak French, let alone any other language, so I know I'm pretty safe lol.
Personally, I wouldn't be so sure.  In my volunteer work, I am the only native english speaker amongst a team of (other than me) French people.  I occasionally take calls from customers and friends and will be speaking english.  When I finish on the phone a few of those I am with will delight in repeating and translating at least some of my phone call.  Beware[Www]
 7.
Have you mixed up your posts as I see nothing from teapot in this thread or anything about hire cars [8-)]
Théière was Teapot (and is French for teapot)
 8. Don't forget to check on the bottom of your EDF facture exactly what time your HC are, as they are not all just at night.  We are 0230-0730 and 1430-1730.
 9.
Amos, The other place which the OP might want to try is Le quaille qui chant, at Montredon - a Routier, (on the main road from Narbonne), and easy to find from Cruscades), and very popular with drivers - more basic perhaps than he is looking for, but gives a true French experience.
And does a fantastic fish pie.
 10.
or is the holiday just on the actual day regardless of what day it falls on.
Yes, all holidays fall on the day they occur, hence the recompense of "bridge days".
 11. When I set up a non-sky box, I simply entered a valid postcode, and the box was set to the relevant region.
 12. As I dont know the area, and the info on Bison Futé didn't say "Commune de Nantes", I took it that there were no works, I sit corrected.
 13.
Thanks for the information, my Class C is valid until 2014, and has a restriction 70 RU. ? However, I take it that to drive professionally here in France, I need to take a FIMO. Thanks again.
Have a look at this thread.
 14. This thread in another place would appear to answer your question.
 15.
As an aside it's interesting to read so many supporting the property ownership culture - having moved to a country where it is more usual to rent and where children often move into the homes of their parents.
So Scooby, can I ask, do you rent both of your houses (England and France)?
 16. Don't know about Babbles bit of the Hérault, but my locals are very friendly, (unless you are Parisien[6])
 17. Tax on rental income is payable in the country in which the property is situated, you cannot choose. Makes no difference where you live. Sorry, don't know the answer to your second question.
 18. No TF runs 1st January to 31st December same as TH.
 19.
I do get a tad annoyed when a poster asks for info he/she cannot find and doesn't bother to give an update or even say thanks... [:@]
Hear, hear, happens to me all the time.[:(] Edit: In fact, I once started a thread on this specific topic
 20.
how about some cuban heels
[8-)]

 22. Welcome to the Forum.[:D] Spent two days in the centre there at the start of summer and really liked the place, and would enjoy spending more time there. Didn't notice more shops boarded up than anywhere else.
 23. See here for all the recent news reports on TF1. And a fairly comprehensive newspaper article.
