  1. Blodwyn, what a helpful post, thank you. Be kind to yourself as you pick up the threads of your life. Antonia, I was sorry to read about your husband’s passing, and thank you for your helpful post. Remember to take care of yourself, too.
  2. ??? Yes, the petition crashed as so many wanted to sign it! It only stood at something over 200,000 when I signed it yesterday. The BBC said, "A call to revoke Article 50 generates the fastest ever rate signatures on Parliament's website."! The petition might be a forlorn hope, but the more that sign it the clearer it will be how strong the feeling is in the country - and largely without publicity until today. - without all the lies, cheating and crooked financial dealings that have been proven to have taken place with the referendum - nor influence from malign forces.
  3. That’s interesting. On another French forum there are often complaints about fines arriving several months after a visit, but several have popped up over the last couple of days.
  4. I hope that she managed her ride between hailstorms! I don’t remember the last time we had so many on and off throughout the day. But inbetween we had some pleasant sunshine.
  5. Heavy, thudding hailstones and thunder and lightning here in Berkshire - the first peal of thunder really made me jump. It must have been extremely loud to be heard over the hailstones banging on the windows at both ends of our living room.
  6. We’re back in Berkshire and are having a lot of nasty periods of hailstones, very painful on tge face when we popped round to our little local M&S Food branch.
  7. With the ‘s’ pronounced, confusing for many, Vers Pont du Gard.
  8. I appreciate hearing from those who have returned to the UK; why on earth should valued posters have to stop posting just because a grumpyguts desn’t like it?
  9. It was on topic, so you might have found it boring! ?
  10. There was one earlier, Wooly, now removed.
  11. The price of organic free range eggs in our part of the Gard hasn’t changed recently; 2€80 for 6, 5€50 for 12.
  12. What utter twaddle. Anyone in such a position, at his age, who surrendered his driving licence would be treated exactly the same.
  13. Moses might well have said it when afloat on the Ark..............
  14. I think it’s brilliant, didn’t hear about it until a couple of days ago but sent a donation. I can’t do much about brexit apart from feeling so sick about where the UK is heading, but it made me feel that I was putting 2 fingers up at Johnson, Gove, Fox, Davies, Farage and the rest. Felt a little better after that. I like imagining those liars with donkey heads on.
  15. Condolences from me too, Blodwyn. It’s good to hear that you have such good support from friends and your sons. Do lean on them when you need to; after you’ve dealt with all the bureaucracy you’ll need to lean on others, it won’t be all plain sailing. If somebody asks what they can do to help, tell them - shopping, a cup of coffee together, a meal with their family, don’t just say everything is OK - they really want to help. Take care of yourself.
  16. I’m another who avoids the subjunctive almost always, unless I know I’m on safe ground. I remember how pleased I was when I first heard a Frenchman get a subjunctive wrong - that really gave me hope.
  17. Maybe we’ll fill one of our cases with food when we returnto the UK in a few weeks time. Lots of local sausage to start with.
  18. I’d like to shake the whole lot of them. It couldn’t do much damage to their brains, wherever they keep them.
  19. That sounds a very good parcel to offer - I should think that your friend will be very pleased to accept it. I hope that he hasn’t put himself on a diet after any excesses over the festivities!
  20. Even Claude, our cheese man in the market this morning was sounding off about what a terrible the ex-mayor was. WB, I hadn’t heard about the car bomb, terrible if it’s all starting again.
  21. That’s a good idea, Loiseau. If I need to turn into the sun, particularly on a main road I turn in the opposite direction and turn round as soon as safe and practical. Obviously not a good idea on a motorway.
  22. Our elderly neighbour adores shortbread. Her favourites are some of the many tins/packets from M&S, particularly the Christmas tree tin that turns around and the red bus/ phonebox tin (can’t remember which it is at this time of night, but it’s red!), and small packets with scottie dog-shaped bscuits. As you can tell, the tins are at least as big a draw as the biscuits, but she loves the biscuits themselves. Other French friends, who have various varieties of scotch for aperos, have loved Caol Ila - my personal favourite.
