  1. It's been pretty vile in the Gironde but if the bad weather has prevented me from advancing in the garden, it has been the ideal month to clean the garage and sort out the attic so every (black, rain filled) cloud has a silver lining.  It is, however, a fabulously sunny and warm morning here but whether it lasts or not.......
  2. What an exciting project, Yvonne!.  I can't comment on the health or financial aspects you post as I've been here a long time, am in the 'system' and have modest income and lifestyle.  However, in your boots, when choosing a house, I'd be inclined to build an ecohouse on a plot that you have chosen. Old houses are charming, with lots of character but bring with them their own  possible problems - drafts, damp, difficult to insulate. My brother in Tasmania built an eco-home to his own design out of straw bales and it it fabulous.  In addition, his bills are next to nothing.

  4. Chancer, I quite agree with you.  And nowhere is it more in evidence than at our local council meetings and it's not just me (the lone english councillor) who finds it annoying.  One person starts talking (usually the mayor) and is soon joined by at least three or four other counsillors all talking together and across each other.  The net result is that no-one listens to anyone (they are all defending their opinions) and a council meeting which should be over is an hour and a half, takes at least two and a half hours. And rarely are decisions taken.
  5. Me voila!

  6. Sky went awol from my TNT box a few months ago and no technician could figure out why. I hadn't watched english tv for twenty years and didn't miss it.Then a few days ago when I was re-setting the box after a power failure, Sky suddenly reappeared.  Just in time for the elections... yawn.... yawn....
  7. Perhaps you can't link because it's an ad.  So I'll set the scenario...

One cute little boy with chocolate around his mouth is eating his way through several choccy desserts.Mum (?) enters and catches said little boy in the act.   Little boy picks up the telelphone and tells mum he's calling the SPA as this time 'Maurice' has eaten his way through three desserts. He then drops the spoon into the goldfish bowl and says to the fish..."Tu pousses le bouton un peu trop loin, Maurice".

Daft little ad but it has always made me laugh.
