Hands up all those in possession of one of those chicken bricks (for roasting chickens, what else), tagine, raclette set, punch bowl with glass ladle and cups with handles that hang on the rim.  If you use these items on a regular basis, you need not own up!

I still have (and use) a wonderful sandwich maker - Breville, I think.  It seals the edges of the bread and filled with Philadelphia cream cheese and smoked ham it's a sandwich to die for and if you eat too many, you probably would[+o(]

  2. Quite agree with you James.  Also land-side, there are no 'facilities' either in the arrival or departure areas.  Combined with a vile journey into Bdx via the Pont d'Aquitaine, give me Ryanair and Bergerac any time although I do prefer Easyjet.

I ahve just done two bathrooms with laminate flooring over UFH mats, I found one that claimed to be 100% hydrofuge and it certainly resembled asbestos or the tile backet board, I put a small toroidal offcut (from my holesaw) into a jam jar full of water a couple of months ago and it has not absorbed any water.

It was more expensive than traditional laminate flooring but not excessively so.

Another idea is those woodgrain effect textured self adhesive planks that Leroy Merlin sell, they are very easy to apply, look and feel like real wood even if you get right down on your hands and knees, if they dont last the duration in a humid area or you get fed up with them they only cost about €12/m2 and are relatively easy to take up, I think the brand name is senso

Quite agree with Chancer.  I bought the self adhesive "wood effect" tiles from Leroy Merlin and at 60+, laid them myself.  The result is fabulous and really looks like wood.  It pays to buy the best you can afford, though.

  4.
I find May disruptive for school children.   This year was different because some of the Bank Holidays were on a Saturday but in other years, they have only gone to school for one full week in May.

My children absolutely adored the month of May, and me too. I didn't have to get up at 6.00! By the time they were at the lycee, school effectively finished at the end of May because of the exams.  Vivent les vacances!

  5.
If you deep-fried them, Gem, I understand they are quite a tasty snack.  Like cheesy wotsits [:D]
On those celebrity-in-the-jungle programs they eat all sorts of  creepy crawly stuff - crunchy, chewy, slimy........  frankly, I'd rather starve!

  6. Thanks, Chris.  This is the first time I have come across them and at first sight they are rather yukky but at least they aren't a problem for my plants.  This year ALL my geraniums survived the winter - a miracle!
  7. Re-potting my geraniums this morning I found some big, fat, grey grubs in the soil.  Can anyone tell me what they could be and how they got in there?

  9. Well, I always thought that morue was salt cod and cabillaud was 'normal' cod but why the difference in name?  Anyway, my favourite recipe for cod is  as follows: thick cod fillets; cover with a mixture of fresh breadcrumbs, crushed garlic, grated lemon rind and parsley mixed up with melted butter.  Bake at  +/- 180 for as long as it takes to  brown the breadcrumbs and cook the fish , c'est a dire, pas trop longtemps.

  10.
Hi All Does this make it any clearer? Extract from: The Fish Labelling (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2006 Whiting Merlangius merlangus (L.) Hake All species of Merluccius (L.) Cod or Codling Gadus morhua Although some fish are similar to other fish they may or may not be related, as you can see the Cod, Whiting and Hake belong to different families But I don't care they all taste yummy Simply pan fried in buttter seasoned, squeeze of lemon..............Heaven
If cod is morhua (?morue) what is cabillaud?

  11. Welcome to the Forum J&B.  You need to see your notaire but I guess a lot depends upon where your friends are getting their divorce.  If it is in France, then their share of the property could  be subject to the 'separation des biens'.  I hope this works out well for you.
  12.
I agree with all of the above except 'dress like a native ' If that means wearing a wrap round overall !! Hugely overpriced at local market ! Hubby has been threatening to buy me one for last few years !

They are to be found on the same stall as the ENORMOUS corsets with SUSPENDERS[:-))]
