1. I used to havethe same problem between UK and NI - it's just a network thing between the different countries, so said Vodafone. Not much you can but you can turn on delivery reports that way you know when / if your message(s) get delivered.
2.
I broke my specs and glued the lense back in with super glue and got it all over the lense. White spirit wouldn't budge it nor cigarette lighter fuel but bingo MEK - methyl ethyl ketone did it straight away. The fumes can give you liver cancer amongst other things so use it in a well ventilated area. The MEK I used was for melting plastic pipes together - MEK was used as a rubber rejuvinator in the printing trade but was banned some years ago.
MEK is still used in some industries.......
3. Every Friday morning our mairie boys do a tour of the village in their camion - anything too big for you to take yourself just leave it out the gate Friday morning and they pick it up. Brilliant!
4. When you do find somebody make sure you include everything in the devis. I fell foul of that one - garage doors? "Not in the Devis"....floor concreted and levelled? "Not in the Devis" In fact all I got was the shell of a garage. You live and learn.
5. I reckon you might be OK - all depends on how good the battery was before you left. A couple of years ago I went to Oz for 6 weeks in January, left the car at Bristol Airport the whole time and she started straight away.

7. Coat it with some of this stuff http://www.electrolube.com/docs/conformalmain.asp?id=73 and you should be ok. No idea where you can get it from - RS maybe?  We used to use it in the mob on aircraft circuitry to protect from the elements without taking away any functionality from the items protected..........we also used it on our boots - gives a mirror 'bulled' shine with minimum effort..........[B]
8.
Can you buy 15mm pipe in France?
....Nope.....
9. A vet is the best plan for you! Might need anti-biotics......
10. Rowan can you get access to your dish?? If yes get yourself to Tridome and pick up an audible sat tuner from their satellite area. Its a small blue box about 2" x 1" with an ear phone. About 12 Euro. If you live anywhere near Olonzac you can borrow mine........ Switch off your sat box, unhook your sat cable from the lnb and connect it to either side of the tuner - you'll need a small (6") length of sat cable with connectors on each end. Switch you box back on and go back to your dish - if when you move the dish slightly the pitch in the earpiece increases, then you'll need to loosen off the clamps just enough to move it, reposition to get the highest pitch from the earpiece and tighten there. Then you'll be good to go, normal service should be resumed! I've done this so many times for neighbours....... Ric.
11. With regards to registering with FFVE watch this space. I just sent away for the necessary cert from them to register my '79 Jeep CJ. I'll let you know the outcome.....
12. Thanks Q I've emailed myself that link. Not looking for Michelin's but I am getting close to needing a couple of Pirelli's which seem to be a good price at 64 each.
13. Defo a scam. I had similar emails when I sold my MG on UK autotrader. I made the mistake of replying telling the author in no uncertain terms to eff off, together with a few derogatory remarks about his/her mother. Daft thing to do as my inbox was bombarded with spam shortly after.......I wasn't too concerned though since I used a web email which I set up solely for the car sale, wholly expecting a degree of spam/scammers.
14. Why is it when somebody does extremely well In sport then their opponents always cry cheat? Well done I say, brilliant.
15. I think you'd have to give a French address - French insurance won't insure it to a UK address and vice versa UK insurance won't insure to a French address! Like I said that's what I'd do but maybe I've been in France too long and have developed their 'rules are only there for guidance' approach...........or did I learn that in Italy............ :)
16. I just can't see it being a problem to be honest. Like I said - that's what I'd do. What anybody else would do is up to them.
17. If it were me........and I had the opportunity to come over and bag a French car in preparation for my forthcoming move to France in two months time........I reckon I'd go ahead and get the car, declare myself French resident at that point and then drive the car back to uk 'to collect some stuff and tidy up loose ends'......[Www] Just be sure to have your ferry booked to come back in case PC plod asks......... Simples.
18.
I have my router plugged into my telephone socket in the hall.  I have my WiFi enabled PC in the basement and my WiFi enabled laptop for use anywhere in the house/terrasse/veranda.  I have an 8 Mega Orange account. My setup is fast and stable with no difference in performance between the two computers.
Hmmmm I dream of 8 meg..... And why do my quotes alway turn into rubbish??
19. Two man bob starts Saturday - lookin forward to some of that!
20. I'm planning to take my 30 year old Jeep to take part in next years Crosiere Blanche, last week in Jan, to raise money for Parkinsons Research (my mum has the dreaded PD). Just wondering if there might be any other fools who would be interested in coming along??  Probably be doing it within a group of 12 from Devon 4x4........ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=runO3YXy74k
21.
I keep seeing the reference to cheap access to the health system with AE, if you check it out, you do not qualify for health care if your turnover is below a certain amount.
Can you post your source for this please? What is the minimum turnover then??
22. RTFP Alex, RTFP ;) OP doesn't want to watch TV. Just to use a laptop as a video player and watch on a big screen. http://www.geekwithlaptop.com/how-to-connect-laptop-to-tv
23. It's a nightmare.  Bloody expensive too - a mate of mine registered his mini cooper there and it cost him I think 700 euro just for the registration, excluding the headlight changes etc etc. You need a carta d'identity, numero fiscale etc etc. I was there for two years with my UK motor - it just wasn't worth the hassle to re register. http://rome.angloinfo.com/countries/italy/motoregister.asp
24. Our Sparky ran two mains out.  One to the garage where he installed a new (small) breaker box and one to an outbuilding to another breaker box.  The outbuilding has washing machine/drier together with prises and lighting.  I think that's a better way to go as it gives you flexibility should you wish to add more circuits at a later date (exterior lighting etc). Not sure about the cabling regs ours is above ground.
