  1. Is there such a beast as a two-tiered chauffe-eau, with one small tank and another larger one which could be brought into action when greater demand warrants it?
  2. I have just viewed the DEFRA web site and found this very interesting topic, apparently a dog was brought ilegally into France from Morocco and spent some time in the Bordeaux, Lot, Perigeaux (sp.) and other areas around and was found to have rabies. The French authorities are now trying to find contacts that the infected dog had and this site lists descriptions of those other dogs and their owners together with the exact locations that the infected dog visited. http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/quarantine/pets/details/fpn3.pdf

Teamedup; No I havn't got a new passport, my understanding is that it is perfectly ok to travel on the old one but on renewal the new ones kick in.

Re 'Les Anglais' reply; I am taking my boxer over for a two months stay next weekend via the Tunnel and I was surprised that the official line is that they are not interested in animals going out, only coming back in! We have not paid for our dog to travel but were told to pay the £30 at Coquelles on return.
  5. I have just read the perfectly reasonable posting on 'super commuters' which I have no doubt is of very great interest to a lot of people. But, dear reader, what happened............the thread ended up, so far, with about two pages of the rights and wrongs of the English and French education system. To me this is nonsense and I think puts off Forum members when they can see that the topic goes on and on and on and eventually deteriorates.
  6. Thanks for that as well, however as I wrote in the initial question I am travelling down to 34 which is about 1000 Kms from Calais so the odd refill on the Autoroutes is not an option after filling up with very expensive English diesel. It is necessary for me to guage the requirement from Bristol to Dover fairly accurately and then top up completely at Calais, luckily my 807 can take 80litres so we can get a fair way down and then turn off to pick up more at one of the supermarkets.
  7. Thanks for that, it looks as though I shall have to use the Fench card at the automatic pump.
  8. We are travelling over to Calais next Sunday and onwards to 34 and normally we travel on a week day and fill up with diesel at Carrefour in the town or the garage just off Junction 3, does anyone know if either of these two places are open on Sundays or, indeed, Cite Europe?
  9. Could anyone please help with the French for 'Double knitting wool' I know the literal translation but have an idea it might not be that!
  10. Now that's an offer I might take up....................by the way, did you ever find shoes for les enfants!!!!!
  11. There is to be a big 'Bash' in Bergerac, with lots of people from Worcestershire, week-end 28/30 October, any Forum members attending, if so could they please email me. Regards
  12. Now there's a coincidence, we are back down to 34 in two weeks time and had planned to go to 'As you like it' ,as in the summer I bought some second hand books there and intended to stock up my little library! Thanks for the info Sal 'hic' igo Bay!!
  13. Thanks Paul, Oh thou good and faithful Forum member!!!!!
  14. During the years I have been on this forum, never mind the Newbie bit, I have read the discussion regarding the relative merits of using English 3 core electric cable, and have always used the French version. However I am now in the process of extending some socket outlets in my garage in 'sunny 34' and have also found at home in Uk a very large quantity on 2.5mm sheathed cable. Can anyone tell me, hello Paul, definitively if I can use this cable in France without dangering my house insurance if anything goes wrong?
  15. Funnily enough I have only just booked two very long term crossings with Eurotunnel for 2005 at £98 each, return. I normally travel, and have done so for years with P & O, but at £98 return I think this is very good value and am very pleased, long may it continue
  16. I have read all the postings with great interest regarding the working of the new (?)Forum, I can not get any sight of the Control Panel either and have done all that is suggested.............Please can we have the old Forum back,  I don't like this one it is too complicated for a simple soul like me  and I am too old to start playing sillywhatsits!!!!!!!
  17. Yes..........my favourite way, which I confess is not too secret, is to drive down!!!
  18. I have a Wanadoo Access Libre account on my computer in France but have just bought a laptop as a replacement. At the moment I am in UK but will take the laptop with me when we go back across. I am trying to put the Wanadoo account into the laptop but every time the modem dials the number, 00 33 8 600 84 84 an English voice tells me that the number has not been recognised. Is it not possible to dial this number from outside France, or could there be another problem. The number is the correct one.
