    Ikea waste

Made by Whirlpool but packaged by Ikea, I presume but I would not be certain, whoever, it's a lot of unnecessary waste!

    Ikea waste

I try to do my bit for the environment, making sure I recycle as much as possible, trips to the clothes containers and the glass containers etc, however I was absolutely amazed when last week I bought a new oven and a microwave from Ikea. Anticipating that all instructions would be in French I eagerly opened both and wondering how I could translate the booklets. Needn't have bothered as there was a booklet in English for each one. Also booklets covering a total of 30 different languages contained in 16 fairly large booklets, not leaflets, in each of the oven and microwave!! The combined weight totalled nearly 3Kilos!!!! I now have 30 booklets which will have to be recycled, but just because Ikea cannot be bothered to pack the relevant language instruction to the relevant machine destination, hence the reason they don't come with plugs fitted!! If anyone wants an Eftersmak oven or microwave instructions in Croation or Finnish please let me know!!!
  9. Thanks for all the suggestions folks, however I haven't been able to test them as my neighbour very kindly offered to help me out!
  10. Can anyone advise me as to what the translation of "odd job man" would be, in that I would like to find an odd job man to fix something.
  11. Ha, thank you Wooly, les flics didn't catch me this time. The irony is that when I asked the vineyard lady if they delivered she replied, "Of course" gratuit !!!!!!
  12. Thank you all, I shall gird my loins and hot foot it to my favourite place this afternoon!!
  13. Norman, because I had it in the back of my mind that inter departmental travel was forbidden........no?
  14. I live at the northern extremities of Herault, a stone's throw from Gard. My favourite vineyard is in Gard about 15 minutes drive so am I allowed to go there to buy wine?
  15. Lidl......electric blanket 150x80 on sale Monday 7th December, go for it!!
  16. Thanks to all the suggestions, much appreciated.
  17. I have at last plucked up courage to make a Victoria Sponge. Bought the jam for the filling and all the other necessary bits but couldn't find thick cream anywhere. Suddenly remembered late wife mentioned the same some time ago but used something else, I know not what. Any suggestions please?
  18. If I may go slightly off topic, I have sold my UK apartment and awaiting a final date to exchange. I bought the property in 2011 so I am presuming that the relevant CGT will only apply from 2015 when the criteria was changed. How can I research what the property value was in 2015?
  19. Dean, I'm afraid that the Notaire is probably right in that all his fees have a fixed remuneration plan. My wife passed away last year and have only just settled the aftermath but the Notaire's fees came to around Euros 4 thousand.
  20. I am heartened to hear the experiences of other people with Notaires. My wife passed away in April last year and I have, now, only just completed he acte de succession. The Notaire on many occasions did not reply to requests to contact me, ignored emails and I even had documents relating to another person sent to me! Again, I chose this one because he was listed as speaking english, but not very well!!
  21. Thanks for the replies and have taken on board the comments. Found that MrB. actually sell small reels of 5metre cable so have bought the 2.5mm and wired that in. I was a bit dubious about the 1.5mm hence my posting but feel a lot easier now!
  22. I need to take a spur off an existing junction box which is cabled with 2.5mm cable to service a fridge/freezer. Would it be acceptable to cable this spur with 1.5mm cable, purely because I have lots of the stuff and no 2.5mm!!
  23. At last, we have a cure for all! Ailments large and ailments small, Good health is not beyond my reach. If I inject myself with bleach. Radiant I'll prance along, Every trace of lime scale gone, With disinfectant as my friend, Like him, I'm clean round the bend!
  24. Pomme Thanks for that, actually looking at Monzo, sounds interesting.
  25. My UK bank, which I have had an account with for over 30years will not allow me to open any other account as I am resident in France, but will allow me to keep existing one open. Therefore I have been contemplating using one of the new "Challenger/Digital" banks which require limited proof of address, I have a UK property. If anyone has used one of these banks I would be grateful for experiences.
