  1. I'm sorry I didn't think of that... point taken.   Aidy
  2. Hi everybody, i too would like to give three cheers to the LF Forum. I have found as said before the majority of the threads are interesting, lively, instructional and a must read. There is a clique of people on the forum who seem to think it is their forum and whatever they want is much more important than anybody elses. The current thread about Miki for instance and before that Le Bouffon etc etc etc ad nauseum. Although initially the thread had a certain amount of interest it is now totally boring boring boring. Come on people act like grown ups and leave it alone. The longer the Miki thread continues more people are going to throw their toys out of the pram and people who have contributed useful information are going to leave. I know I am probably going to get slated for saying this but really people act your age not your shoe size.   Aidy
  3. I am nearly bald but also unfortunately nearly as ugly as the dog.... some people just cannot win..

  5. Thankyou for that rather insightful comment on my personality or otherwise. I used the example as a means of conveying how parochial many Americans are. I did say I worked with these people for many years (25 or so to be more exact) not all of them are parochial but some of them are extremely so having no idea where many of the places they are posted to either are geographicaly or politicaly or even socialy . I did not make a statement about the Americans as a nation more about some of the individuals I worked with and socialised with over the years. In general I found them to be generous, kind and polite. They involved themselves in local charities (and still do) the majority of them contribute to the local economy and integrate well with the local community. But a proportion of them are arrogant, loud and extremely nationalistic in their views and outlook.  I personally think that the USA despite some current difficulties is the best friend this country has had for many years. If my comments were seen as Americaphobic  they were not or ever meant to be. The amateur psychiatrist needs to understand what   says it all really means     ta    says it all   Aidy

  7. I worked with Americans on a base in Yorkshire for many years. One couple on being returned to the USA after a tour of duty here were asked what they thought of their time in the UK and had they visited lots of places. The told me that they arrived in the UK at Mildenhall 3 years previously and after arriving at their accomodation on base had never left. They had never even been into town a mere 5 miles away. They said they hated Europe and England and couldn't wait to get back to the USA.   Says it all really     Aidy
  8. Here in Sub Tropical Harrogate the sun actually shone for a couple of hours... not very bright but definitely there. Still cold at about 5C but why should I care I'm off to Calais for a couple of days tomorrow...   Aidy
  9. All signs of spring have been covered up by the 2 inches of snow that fell on Harrogate and environs last night. The crocuses on the stray and sticking their brightly coloured heads above the snow which is thankfully now starting to thaw. I have frog spawn in the garden pond and other bits and pieces sticking their heads out tentatively. However, at 2 degrees C it is hardly spring like. Things may change but at the moment sub-tropical Harrogate is pretty cold today.   Aidy
  10. Am I missing something here? I feel that I am on the end of an argument that has been raging for some time between people who don't really like each other. I thought the forum was there to exchange ideas and experiences for people who like me either hope to or already do live in France, not some sort of club whereby people try to score points off each other with their tremendous use of the English language. This sort of thread really does not reflect well on the people contributing to this infantile name calling. I know this is my first post and it may well be my last as I am not very impressed. The rest of the real site is tremendous, informative, sometimes witty, mostly well written, a shame about this one.   Aidy
