1. Can one have an American based company while a resident in France and export French goods to that American based company?  Would this go against the statement that we had to sign when applying for our Visas that we "would not seek employment while living in France."  We would like to have the company in our name and have our son run it for us out of Memphis, Tennessee. Thanks! Lyn McIntosh-Sherwood, Winter Park, FL, USA
2. My husband and I, both retired and in our early 60's, will be moving to the Bonneval (28), Centre, Eure-et-Loir region in September.  We are hoping to find others who speak English in this area.  We do have American friends who live there, have been living there for over 20+ years, but also need to meet with others. Thanks! Lyn McIntosh-Sherwood, Winter Park, FL, USA
3. My husband and I, both in our early 60's, will be moving to France in the near term future.  We have already applied for one year's International Health Insurance and have been told that after we are in France for one year that we can go on the French Medical System which entails them taking 8% of our income (is this gross or net?).  Is this indeed the situation?  Also, my husband receives a VA disability and through the VA is given medications for a back injury received while in the Navy.  He only pays a slight percentage for this medication.  Is there a way that he can continue receiving these medications even if we live in France? Thanks so much! Lyn, Winter Park, FL, USA - soon to be in Bonneval (28)
4.
I'm not surprised the prefectures are refusing to issue residence permits to people who don't actually need them in order to be resident here.  It's a non-obligatory administrative process which represents an unnecessary cost to the prefecture/taxpayer.  Given the amount of people who complain about "burocracy" in France, I wonder why anyone would want to go through the hoops just to acquire a document that's not worth the paper it's printed on... In terms of encountering a gendarme, the only offence you're likely to commit (hopefully) is a driving one and in the case of a traffic pull, your UK driving licence will be sufficient proof of identity.  On the other hand, if you're going equipped for burglary, then it'd obviously be a good idea to load up with ID.........[;-)] New to this forum so if I'm repeating something that's been talked about please forgive.  My husband and I, retired, American citizens are now awaiting our Visas in order to move to and live in France for an unspecified amount of time (could be several years, could be the rest of our lives).  We have been told that we must report to either the Le Mairie or the La Prefecture within 7 days of moving to where we will be living and present all the paperwork that was required to get our Visas in order to apply for a Carte de Sejour.  At that time we would receive a receipt showing that we had applied and that about five or six months down the line we would get the actual "Carte."  Is this indeed the process?  We want to have French residency but not French citizenship. Thanks! Lyn - Winter Park, FL, USA
5. My husband, a retired City of Orlando firefighter, and I will be moving to Bonneval (28), Centre, Eure-et-Loir, which is about 25 minutes from Chartres in September.  We are looking for either American or English people that live in that area.  We will be looking for a long term rental house with a small garden.  We have American friends who live in Bonneval and will be using their apartment until we find the house we want.  We would be interested in a home in Alluyes, Dangeau, Chateaudun or Bonneval. Hoping to find some English speaking folks as I have a little French but my husband has none (although he is presently studying). Thanks! Lyn Winter Park, FL, USA
