  1. Thanks for the suggestion Gluestick but, I've been there already - got the tee-shirt, just as Loiseau has.
  2. Since the forum's new software launched, I haven't found it necessary to edit my posts, although others may not necessarily agree. I have searched high and low as to where I might locate this facility, as it's obviously available somewhere, as can be seen from the banner displayed on the posts of those who obviously locate this tool and use it. My question is therefore simply where is to be found? Thanks for any help.
  3. Given that he is yet to toss his hat into the ring and reading THIS, I suspect when France takes over the preidency of the council of Europe, in a few weeks time, he will somehow morph into the president of the EU commission. Maybe, just may be he will decide not to run so as to give himself the opportunity to leap-frog (pun intended) over a 5-year tenure of presiding over the French nation with a view to, in just over 2 years, tossing his hat into the ring for the president of the European nation. ?
  4. Perhaps THIS mental health social worker is the type of person Ken is referring to?
  5. Prime minister Johnson has announced a National Review into the circumstances leading up to the death of this poor boy and I also read that the sentencing recommendation for the two murderers has been elevated up to the Attorney General on the grounds that the sentences are felt to be too lenient. Hopefully the outcome of these two enquiries will produce the correct results required for justice to be seen to be done.
  6. Two things spring to mind. Inadequate or just sheer bad parenting and the mental derangement of the perpetrator of such crimes. It was reported the stepmother had twice previously attempted to take her own life by hurling herself from buildings including a multi storey car park which resulted in 6 months hospitalization. That would seem to tick one of the above boxes.
  7. Putting aside the inadequacies of the social care the child was not afforded, it probably was deemed to be a "happy household" by them. Unfortunately and catastrophically, this happiness was not extend or intended to include the poor victim!
  8. Personally I feel the death sentence would be too easy a way out for these two. If I were a UK taxpayer, I would be quite happy to see my taxes spent on incarcerating them both till the end of their natural whilst being subjected to the same treatment, daily, that they subjected the little chap to. I also ask myself what kind of detrimental effect this trial will have had on the jurors who have had to view and listen to 9 weeks of every incident, including videos and messaging, of the events leading up to this child's eventual death. I can't imagine anyone getting over that experience in a hurry. RIP Jimmy.
  9. Returning to a soccer note. Last night, Latvia Women 0 - England Women 20 ⚽
  10. In 1906 the race was, for the 1st time, referred to as 'Grand Prix of the Automobile Club of France' or 'Grand Prix of France' in honour of the host organisers and the host region. This was the 1st time in history that a race would receive that name and has continued to be used in several sports around the world. In answer to your question, yes that is what I mean.
  11. Every Christmas while we lived in England together, my wife would include that year's particular edition in my hoard of presents. We would always make a start of reading them out aloud whilst in bed on Christmas morning. A side splitting way to commence a mediocre day. Here are some samples: . Harry Redknapp – “Samassi Abou don’t speak the English too good.” “Dani is so good-looking I don’t know whether to play him or f*** him!” Ruud Gullit – “We must have had 99 per cent of the game. It was the other three per cent that cost us the match.” Sir Bobby Robson – “Look at those olive trees – they’re two hundred years old —from before the time of Christ.” “Home advantage gives you an advantage.” “The first 90 minutes are the most important” Steve Lomas – “Germany are a very difficult team to play — they had 11 internationals out there today.” Paul Gascoigne – “I never predict anything and I never will.” Glenn Hoddle – “When a player gets to 30, so does his body.” David O’Leary – “I was a young lad when I was growing up.” Gerry Francis – “What I said to them at half-time would be unprintable on the radio.” Wayne Bridge (after winning the Carling Cup final 2007) – “The important thing was we got the three points.” Graham Taylor – “Very few of us have any idea of what life is like living in a goldfish bowl, except, of course, for those of us who are goldfish.” Bobby Robson (again) – “Everyone’s got tough games coming up. Manchester United have got Arsenal, Arsenal have got Manchester United and Leeds have got Leeds.” Kevin Keegan – “I came to Nantes two years ago and it’s much the same today, except that it’s totally different” “The 33 or 34-year-olds will be 36 or 37 by the time the next World Cup comes around, if they’re not careful.” Ian Wright – “Without being too harsh on David he cost us the match” Alvin Martin – “The new season will be all about scoring more goals than the opposition” Barry Venison – “I always used to put my right boot on first, and then obviously my right sock” Murdo MacLeod – “That was only a yard away from being an inch-perfect pass” Bryan Robson – “If we played like that every week then we wouldn’t be so inconsistent” Andy Gray – “Anyone who takes drugs should be hammered” Finally, two classics from the downright immature George Hamilton- “He’s pulling him off. The Spanish manager is pulling his Captain off!” to the sadly apocryphal Anon “The bowler’s Holding, the batsman’s Willey”
  12. I think the clue might just be in the language applied in the titling of the award.
  13. It seems £9 million, already received, of the £54 million the UK agreed to pay the French to avoid incidents like this from happening doesn't appear to be working.
  14. I had a similar sort of incident with FedEx back in May. I made a purchase with a company in the UK with delivery by FedEx. Several days later I received a message to inform me that the goods were at the depot ready to be delivered to my home address. However, before this delivery could be expedited I was required to pay import and admin charges of €x, which I duly paid by plastic. The goods arrived the following day. Two weeks later, I received an itemised invoice of import duty and admin charges requiring payment. I messaged FedEx with the last 4 digits of my card and the name of the card issuer and suggested they check their billing system. To date, I have heard nothing from them.
  15. Fortunately, I have no skin in the immigration situation that is affecting the UK right now, although I do believe it is not a recent problem but one that has been an issue for decades. I'm more concerned what France and Brussels action is to halt this unsustainable influx of undocumented emigrants into the countries of the EU. If the people of the UK are serious and genuinely want a halt in this situation, then they will have to be prepared to suffer some inconveniences. As has been reported in the media and on TV, the eastern states of the EU are in the process or have already completed erecting physical barriers along their borders which I believe are patrolled by those nations armed forces. The south coast of England, according to Google, has 400 miles (643.74 km) of coastline. Order up 400 miles worth of razor wire. Have the army install and erect it with designated access points for beach or whatever access. The army patrols it. Basic style internment camps to be constructed by the army, freeing up hotels to be returned to their original purpose, for anyone breaching the barriers, and process any asylum requests for those who are in possession of official documents re: name, age and nationality. Those who do not comply will just have to sit it out until they conform to the requirements. Cease any cash handouts, supply food, cooking and washing facilities, tents with heating and wait whilst the numbers diminish. Just a suggestion Ken as you didn't seem to be able to envisage any situation other than shooting these people.
  16. Either directly or indirectly, the UK army has a presence on the Polish /Belarus border with the sole aim of securing the said border against foreign national citizens who are attempting to enter Poland illegally. As I stated above, I haven't read anywhere of the UK army being tasked, with or without the assistance of Nato or Polish forces or any forces for the matter, in any program to secure the borders of the UK. Perhaps that would be a start and also send some sort of message to the smugglers and the emigrants that the UK army had now become involved. Forget cobbling together deals or arrangements with other nations to address the issue, as they obviously cannot be relied on, and take full responsibility for the problem that is pertinent to the UK and its own security.
  17. Am I missing something here? It would appear the UK army is able to assist the Polish army to secure the Belarus/Poland border against people attempting to enter Poland illegally. However, at the same time there are people attempting to enter the British Isles illegally, with impunity, who are often assisted by the Border force to land and yet I haven't read of any incidences of the army stepping in to attempt to halt this flow of people.
  18. Exactly. Checking google earth, around here you would be hard pushed to find a property 'sans piscine' and the size of those installed are probably visible with the naked eye from the international space station. I also doubt very much whether any of these pools are operated with 'eco' in mind, as succinctly described above. We had ours filled in, and a house extension built upon it eleven years ago. COP 26, a pseudonym for another global jolly. Can someone remind me how the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, nuclear weapons being a far greater threat to the human race, founded in London, England in 1958 is succeeding? Still a bit of a way to go yet apparently
  19. So states 'the pool man'. The environmental impact of pools and also hot tubs invoke the trifecta of environmental destruction: high water use, high-energy use, and harmful chemicals. ☣️ Hypocrisy perhaps?
  20. Your gestures obviously mean something to you and if it delivers the 'feel good factor' for you both, then stick with it. However, what all these climate change zealots fail to realise, acknowledge or understand is the reason for there being an increase in the manufactured production of carbon emissions. The simple answer is that more manufactured goods are required to satisfy more global demand, and more global demand is created by the real elephant in the room, an overpopulated planet. It is totally unsustainable and until this population growth has the brakes applied, and pretty damned quick, then all the COP (add your own number) conferences and demonstrations won't even begin to scratch the surface.

Much respect Ken. Anything is achievable with enough determination, if and when you put your mind to it. Well, that's always been my philosophy. Chapeau to you.
  22. Chance for you to check out your family 'tree' tonight. Heritage
  23. Thread Drift. It is indeed j. Now it is just another subscription investment advice and financial report site. I did, by mistake, omit to add the word 'forum boards' to the title Motley Fool. Their excellent free investment forums covered all feasible styles, topics and investment opportunities available. I started viewing in '98 and signed-up at the beginning of '99. It was frequented by the best most knowledgable and clued-up private investors around. Unfortunately in November 2016 the boards were closed. I suspect this was due to financial unsustainability. Within a month, two previous members, Clariman and Stooz had created a new forum platform which goes under the title of Lemon Fool and is still live today.
  24. Saint-Quentin, Would you be the same Gengulphus who would post on the now defunct 'Motley Fool' financial investment site?
