1. Very witty and mostly true. Dave have you ever considered putting your ramblings into a book? I would certainly buy it. Have a very good Christmas and if you can, a happy New year. See you in 2018.
2. Bedroom tv is also freezing and breaking up every now and then. So maybe it is the quad lnb? Do they usually have to be replaced after a few years?
3. I did manage very quickly in a moment when it appeared on the tv screen to restore to factory settings as advised by humax. Then I managed to get bbc1 briefly before it went down again. All is not lost as the bedroom tv just needed rebooting and so it works now. Thanks to everyone for suggestions I will have to leave it for Mr mogs to sort out when he returns next week.
4. the old satellite box doesn't work because it works with a scart lead and our smart tv (yeah really smart at the moment) only has HDMI sockets. I tried a couple of HDMI cables but that didn't work, tried changing HDMI sockets on the TV, that didn't work and to make matters worse now, my bedroom TV is now saying No Signal, but it was working fine earlier when I tested it. Getting really fed up with technology now!
5. the other boxes (old satellite box and a slightly younger Manhatten box) are only for one connection. By that I mean you can't record with them. This Humax has 2 sockets. If I swop one of the other boxes to this tv do I just use to 1 socket does it matter which line I use?
6. I contacted Humax who suggested I unplug, check cables, leave unplugged for 5 mins. The plug, turn on and go into settings to try to reset the settings. I've tried this a couple of times but the problem is if it does come back into settings it doesn't stay on the screen long enough for me to try to reset. The screen goes blank with the message saying no signal but yet the humax box is showing either the channel I was on it will allow me to change channel, change volume from the box itself but nothing comes up on the tv. We have a quad LNB and have 3 sets running off it, as I say the others are fine it's just the main one in our lounge. Typical, wanted to watch the final of Strictly with the fire going and a glass of wine! Will have to sit on the bed instead
7. We have the above Humax which typically just gone over it's 2 year warranty and is playing up. Any suggestions of what I can try to see if it solves the problem please? Initially turning on the TV and Humax (from standby) it all starts up, works on the selected channel for a couple of minutes then stops. The TV says "no satellite signal" but the Humax is still showing the channel and from the box itself and the remote it will change channels, volume etc but won't start up again. The other TV's work fine through the same LNB with a) an old sky box and b) a manhatten box. So it is not the signal. I've tried unplugging and leaving for a couple of hours but it still doesn't work. It has been doing this for a few months now, off and on, I can't get into recordings or settings either when it does this. Help please
8. Sadly our mairie died last week after quite a long illness. We went to the service on Saturday as did hundreds of others. I understand there will be an election for a new mairie, in due course, and wondered if, as British citizens, if we are able to vote? We've lived in this village for 9 years now.
9. Good luck to them I wish them a happy and long press free marriage!?

Sorry only just caught up with this. I sent off proof of domicile by way of EDF bills, and in a matter of days I got a reply to say it was all sorted.
11. Thanks Chancer. The taxed hab includes the audio visual plus another for hab. She says her form shows it is not a principale residence as her tax office is the same as ours and not where she lives? It shows her as a secondary residence. Just confused really as ours doesn't include her
12.
Would you be asking the question if it was for an offspring who was working? Don't think you legally need to pay any money to "help out" as well if that helps.
Of course we help her, she receives minimum help financially because her dad "works". We haven't found it easy financially , we too have bills to pay so have gone without things like holidays and happy to do that, to give her a good education but don't all parents do that?
13.
Sorry but it somewhat telling, mogs, that you are more interested in your finances rather than hers based on the comment that you are paying..
I think you misunderstand Richard. It's purely a question as to why a student with "No earned income" should have to pay? I detailed the circumstances because usually forum repliers like to know all the details. We are very proud of our daughter and will support her to the ends of the earth, financially and emotionally, as much as we can. She has done, and still doing incredibly well without much support from her parents who only speak and read a little French. But, another question, Why do low income persons not pay habitation when a student with no income has to? Does that seem fair? Thanks to Sue, Chancer and Norman for constructive comments.
14. Our daughter is in her final year of Uni. She lives away from home in a student residence bed sit. She pays rent for this (a ridiculous amount considering its only a bed sit), and receives a little bit of money from CAF and a small bourse. Both these are calculated to her Dad's income so she only receives the minimum allowance. Obviously we have to help her financially, as we do for our children, and therefore are allowed to claim the non justified allowance on our tax. She has now received a bill for tax habitation, which considering the size of the flat she has seems outrageous. We are only paying 118 euros more for a 3 bedroomed property. She seems to think what she has to pay in habitation is also based on her Dad's income. As she has no income (except CAF/Bourse and our allowance to her) does anyone know if she should pay tax habitation?
15. Slapping hard now Norman !!!! BTW I only saw a shooting star not THAT planet.
16. Has anyone spotted it tonight? Apparently it's visible to the naked eye. I didn't spot it but our sky was full of stars and planets and I did see a shooting star. Anyone else?
17. Thanks for that Patf. The vet took blood this morning and everything is normal so she has been started on Crisax and I am gradually to reduce the valium over the next few days. She has always so far had a fit when sleeping so she hasn't fortunately banged herself. She had so many fits over the weekend that I think this, coupled with the valium, has really made her out of sorts when she comes out of the fit and it seemed to be taking longer to recover. Anyway, I hope the Crisax tablets work - otherwise I'll be taking valium myself, as I'm home alone and finding it a bit hard to cope with at the moment.
18. Our dog had 2 seizures out of the blue 2 years ago. She had a short treatment of diazepam and had been fine until a couple of weeks ago. Again our vet advised a dose of valium for 7 days, the seizures stopped for around a week but in the last 24 hours she has had 5 seizures and they seem to be getting worse. I put her back on valium but today the fits have continued. I spoke to our vet this afternoon and now I have to increase the valium. She's going to see the vet tomorrow for blood tests and probably epilepsy medication. It's awful watching her have these fits and They, as well as the valium seem to be disorientating for her. Has anyone had a positive outcome of something like this?
19.
Mogs, do you remember when we used to have an insomniacs' thread on here? In those days, I used to sleep OK, full moon or no, but people used to come on the Forum at all hours of the night to say what they were doing instead of sleeping[:D]
Yes I do remember that Mint. Wonder what happened to it. Mind you I try to avoid anything electronic when I can't sleep

BonFires

I've seen bonfires in my village throughout the summer, in fact all year round. I agree, with an acre or more of land its too much for the dechetterie so I will seen our mairie tomorrow and if necessary fill out the form
21. I am fascinated by the stars, the moons, the supermoons and anything to do with this. As a young child I had a fantastic book about planets and stars etc. It had pull out pages and I just loved, and still enjoy the subject. As for sleep, I don't much and seem to live in constant sleep deprivation and I don't think it's anything to do with the moon.
22. We renewed online last year as in completed the online form. We then received a reference number for both the payment and the application. We put a copy of this along with old passport and photos and sent with tracking. It took just over a week to receive the new passport and the old one. It was all quite straightforward. Hope this helps.
23. Last week I found a wasp nest in our pool shed. I bought some stuff, which cost 30 odd euros but could be sprayed from a distance of 10 metres. It killed them instantly. Very strong product. Perhaps you could spray up your chimney, wear a mask though. It was an "Actif" brand. Good luck with the annoying creatures, do they have a useful purpose?...
24. Just bumping this discussion again in the hope that the information is more clear to someone. Please could someone confirm if the PUMA system is automatic if already "in the system" with cotisations, or is it necessary to submit all documents and re apply.

CPAM email

Thanks Norman I looked at the link you gave. When I clicked to get the form up for application it is exactly the same as the form we used to complete yearly, with our tax document to prove income. They (CPAM) automatically used to send this, although last year they didn't. I believed that the switch over to PUMA was going to be automatic, perhaps I've failed in completing a document. I think I will ring the English speaking CPAM line to see if they can advise.
