  1. I'm pleased to say he is back.    Apart from a limp (probably due to inflammation after all the running about he's done) he seems none the worse for his adventures. A trip to the vet should see him back on form hopefully. Thanks to everyone who sent messages in reply.
  2. We are near Nabirat in Dept 24, thanks for suggestions we will try everything but fear the worst for him, he's a daft dog!
  3. Since last night, so 24 hours now. We've been out calling on neighbours in our commune plus surrounding communes, driving around calling him but as yet no sign.   Fortunately there are no busy roads close by, but we just don't know how far he might have wandered.   He was spotted by several people yesterday in different directions. He has gone missing before, but never for this length of time so we are quite concerned. Is there anyone we can call, dog shelters, gendarmes etc.   Tomorrow we will go to the local vets as he is chipped and will give in all our details. He's a black chow chow, he is soppy and soft around us, but he is very timid to strangers and will probably be trying to avoid humans.  He is a one man dog really.
  4. Many thanks for those 2 replies, Gourdon is the closest so perhaps I will try that one first.
  5. I am trying to write a letter in which I want to enclose some cheques. In English I would simply say "As requested, please find enclosed", but the translation site says it as "ferme" ?   Could someone help with the correct translation please?
  6. Can anyone recommend a hairdresser in Gourdon or surrounding area please?

Personally I found the MT CD's the most boring way of learning, I found myself nodding off and the bleep woke me up each time!   Sorry for all you people who are his fans but I've just thrown out all the CD's I had because I couldn't get on with them.
  8. Cathy I wish I knew where the Medoc is cos I would like to be able to say Hi!   But, I have a feeling you will be too far away from where we are planning to move to in Dept 24/46? Good luck though, and if ever you're passing........................???
  9. Many thanks Clair, I will send that version off. Was I correct in thinking that "net en votre faveur" does mean "in our favour" therefore what we paid is the end of the balance?
  10. Assuming that the above is correct and we only need to pay the difference, I have worded a letter which I hope sounds ok?   It was translated with one of the online translation sites, so I am not sure if it reads properly: J'écris concernant Facture no 082688 pour Montant €92,69 euros.
  11. Does anyone have a letter purely for cancelling because of a change of address?   If so, one to France Telecom/Orange would be good please, as I can't even find the address to write to.   Having spent 1 1/2 hours in my local France Telecom shop today only to be told "you have to ring this number" and of course, I can't ever seem to be able to get through - it is pretty frustrating.  Many thanks
  12. In September we had our boiler serviced etc. a part was replaced but it turned out to be the wrong part so I had to call the engineer again.   This time he agreed there would be no call out charge as he had made a bad diagnosis. Anyway, a lot of work was eventually done, which we paid for and he said that the part that was wrong we wouldn't be charged for also, because the actual part required was about the same price as the previous part. We received a facture for 135,96 which stated "net en votre faveur" which we took to mean that we had been paid back the difference (92,69 euros), in other words we didn't have anything left to pay except the difference (43,27).  However, we've now received a late payment letter still asking for the 92,69.  Confused about this or what!   Does anyone have an answer please?
  13. Doctor's home numbers??, Wow, never heard of that before so hope it is the same in our part of the patch[8-|]
  14. What a lot of delightful photos, thanks to all for posting them. Our daughter went out with 3 of her friends, but after the onslaught of children for 2 hours here, by the time she arrived with said friends, all the goodies were gone. I put on our "Scream" mask, and opened the door with a large growl, unfortunately scaring two lovely little 4 year olds!   Their Dad thankfully thought it was funny so all was well. Glad to say no pranks, no fireworks through letter boxes etc. so pleased to have left that behind.
  15. I visited our local tax office last week to query why the Avis d'Impot (green form) was nearly 3 times more than we had previously been verbally told at the Impot. What a pleasant surprise I had when the very nice tax man told me that there had been a computer error, and the original figure he gave us was the correct one!    Phew, a sigh of relief, even the tax man was pleased for us! So, it pays to check your forms carefully!
  16. When paying taxs in France is it taken into account if you have a mortgage for the interest charges etc. for instance - what I actually mean is do you get a reduction in tax if paying a mortgage?   I heard somewhere that you can claim for the last 4 years as this is a fairly recent addition to the system, but is this true? Thanks
  17. Many thanks for the useful info, looks like a trip to the Mairie is necessary. Just to get things straight, be assured we don't want to do things illegally - that's why we are asking the questions, so we know.
  18. Can anyone help with this query please? If we were thinking of buying some land to put a few, say 4 mobile homes on, and would use the rental of these as an income, what would the regulations be?   As B & B's seem to get away with not actually registering as a company, would this idea also be the same?   We would declare our annual income for tax/social security purposes but are only intending to keep it small, just enough to earn a living to get by on (at least at first). If anyone has done this, or bought a campsite and can help, any advice greatly appreciated.
