  1. Hi I need to make cheap, reliable and good quality calls to the rest of Europe. The duration of the calls would be an hour or thereabouts. ( I teach English!). I already have an internet deal (including unlimited calls via the internet connection) with FT but I need to make landline calls. I do have a landline, but the cost of calls from this is prohibitive. I've tried some of the cheap suppliers but the quality has been dreadful - OK for family and friends, but not for business! Any advice or recommendations would be much appreciated.
  2. Hi Tony Did you get my pm? It would be great to have the contact details you mentioned.
  3. Thank you Tony. The information about the cadastre being updated is very interesting. We live near Les Eyzies de Tayac and bought the plot in 2003, started building in 2004 and moved in in 2005. We haven't signed anything yet and I feel confident that we can come to an amicable arrangement, as you suggest with rights of access over the affected part of the land. Wish us luck for next week!
  4. Thanks for your comments, Clair and JR. Hindsight is a wonderful thing! I certainly wish that we'd known about the existence of such a precaution when we bought the plot - we would at least have known what questions to ask. Take note, anyone who's in the process of buying property.
  5. I'll try and explain our situation briefly - We bought a plot, complete with architects drawings and planning permission, in September 2003. We started to build in the summer of 2004. We have now finished our house. We live here permanently. The plot of land immediately next to ours has recently been sold and the new owner has employed a "Géometre-Expert Foncier DPLG - Topographe" (quote from the headed paper) to establish the boundary. This company has taken measurements and concluded that our boundary has been wrongly set a few metres into the neighbouring plot. This implies that our driveway and access to the rear of our property is not on our land. This company have also concluded that we have a few metres at the back of our plot that we weren't aware of, and gives us ownership of the access road between other neighbours. We would obviously prefer to keep our driveway! We have a meeting (amicable I hope) scheduled with the new owner to discuss this issue on Tuesday 9th June. We would like advice as to our legal situation. For example, have we been established on the plot with the accepted boundaries (EDF had no problem in deciding where to position their meter, for example, and the new owner didn't question the boundaries   before he bought the plot) for long enough for this to be considered right of ownership? (Not sure of the technical term for what amouts to "squatter's rights".) I hope we can reach a compromise, but the new owner has bought several plots within the immediate area and is a retired local business man with lots of family connections. We don't want to fall out with him, but we don't want to be ganged up on by the locals either. We've have a good relationship with this guy (we used his services when we first moved over and have been on good terms since then) and need to come to an agreeable conclusion for everybody. We have our English neighbours,  from whom we bought the plot, coming to the meeting. We are going to ask a friend who has better French than mine, and mine's not too bad, to come to this meeting. Is there anyone with experience in this kind of problem who would be able to help us too - I could offer a nice lunch! What advice can anyone give? How can I establish the boundaries without employing a Géometre? Is the company mentioned earlier recognised by the government as an official authority? Are there any organisations that can represent us in this kind of situation? Would it help to go to the marie to get their support, official planning permission documents, boundary maps? I've looked at the website link (cadestre) but didn't think this was terrible helpful for our situation. I would be very grateful for any advice and help with this. Thanks in advance.
  6. Thanks Clair. I'll pass that on to my friend, she'll be pleased to hear that!
  7. Hi A friend of mine recently registered on line to be an autoentreprenneur. She now has her Siret number but the main activity mentioned on the certificate is incorrrect. Should she be worried about this? She's coded as a design specialist or similar, when she just does cleaning!
  8. I applied twice to the DRIRE, once for a UK Vauxhall Corsa and once for a UK Saab 9000, for the necessary CoC - took a couple of weeks each time but was considerably cheaper at about €67, than the €100++ that the manufacturers charge. Having said that a friend got a CoC for his Landrover in French from his English dealer for free!! Like many things, it often seems to be pot luck!
  9. Hello I want to buy the type of packing case filler that you get in parcels or boxes with odd shaped contents. I think its made of expanded polystyrene but not beads,  the stuff that is bigger than beads and sort of "S" shaped. I need quite a large quantity and wondered if anyone knew of a supplier or website where I might be able to find them. Thanks for any suggestions.
  10. We've received the same letter, and, like you, I am sceptical about sending it back. Unlike you, we've been living here for almost four years and have had a CA bank account for longer than that and this is the first time we've received such a request. I'm not going to send anything by post but will go into our local branch and check that this is authentic. As you  mentioned, the fact the letter is in black and white seems unsual. My inclination is to do nothing - our circumstances haven't changed so I can see no valid reason to send this information again. Anyone else have any thoughts or opinions on this kind of letter??
  11. My work van badly needs replacing. I will be TVA registered soon and wondered if it might be worth looking at buying a new vehicle through a "credit bail" scheme. Has anyone had any experience of this - the costs involved, the length of contract etc?
  12. I've put contact details on the gite key fob so the guests always have them when they're out, in case of emergencies. I guess a business card as well at the beginning of the stay is a good idea.
  13. Thanks for your reply ErnieY. Apologies accepted - I always assume that posters on the animal rescue forums are inevitably female! I'll keep trying with the options that have been suggested here. Couldn't get a usb cable today as the only computer shop is closed for building works. C'est la vie.
  14. "I think the OP is asking how he can use this new wireless router to somehow connect to the printer to enable his laptop to print directly and wirelessly and not via the PC nor his Livebox i.e. effectively turning the printer into a wireless one."  Hi ErnieY Yes, that's what I was hoping to do. Following the advice from other posters: I've set the share printer option - no joy; I've installed the printer driver on my laptop - no joy; I've found the usb port on the livebox - looks promising, but I don't have the correct usb cable to connect the printer, yet; I do transfer the printer usb cable from the desktop to the laptop to print at the moment - this works, but I'd really like to be able to print without having to physically attach the laptop - perhaps it's a girly thing! Thanks everyone for all your useful suggestions to date. I'll get a usb cable today but...........Any ideas regarding the original question?
  15. [8-)]Can anyone help? I have a laptop with wireless access to the internet through a Livebox, which is connected to our desktop computer. The printer is connected by usb cable to the desktop. I've been given a wireless router so I can print documents from my laptop without having to plug the printer into it. However, I'm completely flummuxed as to how to go about setting this up. Any ideas would be gratefully received!
