  1. We were also advised in both France and England to keep the two estates separate for IHT and CG purposes as well.
  2. I knew someone in France that had a cooker(oven and top) that also supplied c/h-the name Volcane sticks in my mind but I also remember the vast amounts of wood that had to be fed into it.
  3. No but you avoid paying the tax on it because they leave enough parts off for you to finish to qualify as a home-assembled car.
  4. Most companies accept bars or grilles in place of shutters and the glass should be engraved with it's specification number if it meets the requirement.
  5. PICASA which can be downloaded from Google(free) makes it even easier.Has "export" button, hit it and it says"where to",identify where you want it stored and hit "enter". NASA use Picasa and they have not yet found a maximum storage capacity on Picasa's mainframe.(just like BT).
  6. Caterham stiil sell for you to finish but this option may not apply for France.
  7. What a lot of POSERS!   It was a wonderful meal-the champagne was warm and the food was cold!!
  8. Saw a Caterham last week with a "12" registration.
  9. You might find a company that would pay for the change-but you would pay-just indirectly!!!
  10. I think you have got the date wrong by two months.
  11. 14Kw is a lot of heat-it'll take a lot of wood to keep that going.
  12. The MGCCand the OCC were set up before the second world war and were car clubs;the MGOC was well post war and was set up mainly to supply spares for MG B's.
  13. Most British use a 12n and a 12s but for a trailer all you need is a 12n.
  14. I had trouble at  a checkout-short change-said I'd given them a smaller note than I had-told to come back at closing time so they could check the till totals-told I'm standing here blocking this till till I get my change-Result.Change given immediately.
  15. If you can't find anyone else-ask at some of the local immobiliers-but they won't be cheap!!
  16. The good horsemeat in France comes from animals bred solely for meat but there is grottier stuff about.I can never understand people who will eat lamb but not veal.
  17. You must still inform the company;he'd get the money if it was stolen from you,for example.
  18. By the time a garage has removed the manifold-taken it to a specialist to be welded and then back to the garage to be refiitted-it must be quicker and cheaper to fit a new one. Also, whilst being welded, the manifold should be bolted to a cylinder head or steel plate to prevent distortion. That's even more important if you've removed the manifold yourself.   Many manufacturers fit the manifold to the head without a gasket in production but supply gaskets for use in service. There are different types of cast iron, most of which can be welded, some easier than others, but you need someone who knows what he is doing-it's not a skill to be found in your local garage-tho' brazing is.(but can hardly be described as a skill).
  19. I use them to buy the baguette in the morning;shop appreciates them so they can give change.
  20. It may be rear suspension bushes or shock absorbers-neither may may need changing-just a drier environment can cause it.
  21. If you add other people to the ownership(family or not) they must be seen as owners-IE.part share of all bills and proof of this and it must be done properly thro' a notaire. We went into this because of IHT both in France and the UK and CGT both in France and the UK.
  22. The only two houses I have sold(both in the UK) were sold to husbands who viewed without their wives and families and both only saw the houses once.
  23. Most pompier/paramedics have a local doctor "on-call" anyway. My experience of them was excellent but the French drivers.????Large red ambulance, four blue lights on the roof-one on each corner-two-tone horns and do the drivers get out of our way?-one guess. And then at the A&E,pompiers lifting me out on a stretcher and another driver comes up to ask the pompiers how to get to some place. But they did all insist on shaking hands with me before they left-an excellent service. This was after bringing their ambulance out into the wilds of the countryside after I damaged my leg jumping over a ditch.
