  12. i wasnt luckily enough to go on a french exchange but a visit to calais whilst at primary school and a week end in paris at secondary school started my love of france. I have over the years welcomed into my house various sets of mainly girls from france for a week at a time ( i had 3 girls of my own so wanted them to gain from the visits) I also had two Itialian girls for four weeks who taught me how to make a lovely pasta etc. I think the whole experience was worth while and i would do it again if i could.
  13. interesting Question but i am with garden girl on this one, we dont own a property in england but have to work there the house we live in lovely and is home when we are there but always home is france where i would really love to be but cant at the moment.

  18. Thank you all so much for the replies Sorry i have not said so before have had access issues. We ended up with a rosemary and another plant which was given to us that has red and green leaves and yellow flowers, don't know what it was called but should only reach about 60cm high. I am thinking about a lavender but it would have to go next to the rosmary and i dont know about the scents mixing. thanks again Judith
  19. We have a two meter space in the border of our front garden we would like to fill it with some evergreen shrubs or similar, but somthing that will survive if we cant get over as often as we would like. They will be near my olive tree as well [:D] Any suggestions would be appreciated.  We are in the Vendee. judith
  20. Thanks for all the replys a little food for thought there. It will have to be be left in the garden in france because our car is not yet fixed we will be travelling light going home as we will have to leave car at port this side and pick up another the the other side. It will hopefully be ok it already has quite a few olives on it so i have hopes for the future. thanks again Judith

  22. Thanks for the reply JMB thats along the lines of what is happening at the moment just had a report from insurance that the garage are still doing repairs we are just getting anxious because we have to return back to the UK next week end for work and rreally dont want all the hassel if its not fixed before then - but we will have to go with the flow
  23. yes but the repairs are going to cost and we will have to use the money we saved to so work on the house this hols  - unfortunately we can only do a little at a time - we wil eventually probalby get hte money back but you still have to pay up front [:(] estimanted 2000e
  24. Husband grummbles every year  but pays the premium for european breakdown insurance.  we have been travelling to France for 5 years now this is the first time we have had to use use it and boy are we glad we have it.  mine was the birthday from hell this year, some good points though, hubby drove all the way from Belgium to supprise me in the morning - you gotta love him - good bit over Going to La Roche to look at the brico depo just go on the durl carrige way and the car... no engine no gears no anything arhhhh.....   managed to cruise to the side of the road just infront of a big lorry.   Hubby Striagt on the phone to insurace, yes a two hour wait but then phone converstaions were going between hubby england an france, straight to the garage where they were brill, just get you a replacement car until yours is fixed excellent.  we are very pleased so far with the way it has all been  handled and gald we had the insurace. Unfortuantley its somthing to do with the cam belt falling off, which hubby had changed 5000 miles ago, so hubby not very happy .  We are going to have to pay big time to get it fixed, hopefully before we travel home, then we will have to deal with the garage that might not have done the tensioner up correctly when we get home. Luckily we are not the sort of people to let it get us down, the sun is shining we are in our haouse in France where we love to be and we have lots og good freinds around us. I just means the diy wont get done this hols. [:)]
