  1. Things might be about to change. The minister of the Economy has launched 'Le projet de loi de Modernisation de l'économie' (http://www.modernisationeconomie.fr/). If the law is passed, as from 1 January 2009 those who fall under the BNC regime (services - max. turnover 27,000 euros/year) or BIC regime (trade - max. turnover 76,300 euros/year) will be subject to a combined tax and cotisations charge of 23% and 13%, respectively, on their actual turnover (i.e. no more estimates of next year's income), payable monthly or quarterly after the period in question (i.e. no more paying in advance). Registration and de-registration will be simple (one online form to complete in both cases) and turnover will be declarable online (no turnover in a certain month = no charges for that month). At the end of the year, entrepreneurs will simply add up the figures that they provided monthly/quarterly and enter the total on their tax forms (goodbye accountant!). The law will also protect the main residence of an entrepreneur against seizure in the case of bankruptcy/litigation. The law is to be voted on in July (it's already passed through the Senate and has just been presented to the National Assembly). The site http://www.modernisationeconomie.fr/ provides full information about the proposed law and its progress towards implementation. Also keep an eye on http://www.otoentrepreneur.com/ or Google "Projet de loi de modernisation de l'Économie" - and keep your fingers crossed!
  2. Hi ErnieY. I think you were looking under "Primus Particulier" FAQs; see the FAQs under "Primus Line".   NOW just pay one bill to Primus and receive no more France Telecom bills!  You will see all your calls on your monthly Primus itemised bill. In reality you are still connected to France Telecom, but no longer a customer of France Telecom and we handle all your requests, plus you benefit from quality unlimited landline calls to the UK, France and the USA from the Primus Telecom network - all for just 28.90 € TTC.   We can also set up new phone line connections, so please tell your friends who are moving here to France or moving house.  We will arrange everything!   This offer uses the normal landline telephone network, not calls via the Internet using an Orange Livebox, Neufbox, Alicebox, Freebox, Teleconnect and other boxes.   28.90 € per month, including TVA.  ‘Primus Line’ includes your line rental and unlimited landline calls to the UK, USA (all US mobile calls are charged as landline calls) and France.  UK mobile calls are charged extra at a very competitive price of 27 cents per minute with a 10 cent connection fee - this is below the amount charged by most operators.    French 08 and 09 series numbers and short numbers such as indigo, azur, autre opérateur and services audiotel are not included and will appear on your Primus bill.  UK 08 numbers can also be dialled - see below.  There is a six month minimum contract, but NO joining or cancellation fees.  Please note it will take France Telecom a minimum of 2 weeks to switch your line to ‘Primus Line’ from the day we receive your signed application form. If you wish to cancel your account and return to France Telecom, we will need a minimum of two weeks’ notice.  No charge for cancellation will be applied outside of the 6 month minimum. Your Internet access, analogue or ADSL Broadband, is not affected in anyway whatsoever and is still routed to your existing Internet provider, whoever you are connected to. In case of problems with your Internet access,  after contacting your Internet provider, if they believe the fault concerns your normal telephone line you will need to contact us and NOT France Telecom.  Primus allows you to dial UK Free/Premium numbers such as 0800, 0870, 0871 and 0845 series numbers, which are often blocked by overseas operators.  All 08 UK numbers are charged at 27.5 cents with a connection fee of 10 cents.  UK 09 series numbers are definitely not able to be dialled outside of the UK.  However, the whole 08 UK process is very complicated and some numbers are not accessible for technical reasons as these UK numbers are very expensive to overseas operators, if you have to dial a UK 08 number, I suggest you ask your recipient to give you a normal area number to ring on.  There is a very useful Internet site with alternative geographical numbers to the 08 UK series numbers at www.saynoto0870.com, this would allow you to then ring within the ’Primus Line’ package at no cost.  Monthly itemised billing.  Billing may be sent to a UK address if you prefer.  Basic email billing on request.   If you join in the middle of a month the following month's bill will show a pro rata amount for your calls made from the previous month, plus the current month’s amount. Payment is by French Bank Direct Debit (prélèvement) which must include a printed RIB (relevé d’identité bancaire) from your bank. Credit cards or cheques are not accepted.  The direct debit authorisation will be sent to your bank on the 5th of the month and your bank will debit your account around the 8th of each month.  If your direct debit fails for any reason, Primus may well levy a small charge the following month, to cover the bank charges to them of a rejected direct debit. If you are a new customer of Primus, we will provide you with a special number to ring that will tell you when you are connected to Primus Telecom.  This message is in both French and English.  Incidentally, France Telecom is the only body able to touch your line and we are dependant, like all Telecom companies, for them to change your connection to Primus Telecom. All ‘non-unlimited calls’ are charged by the second from the first second. ‘Primus Line’ is a présélection service.  That is to say you dial as you do at present and the system is totally invisible to you.  The quality and reliability of Primus is the same as France Telecom.  Before you sign up to ‘Primus Line,’ please tell us if you have a France Telecom forfait (deal) and we will send you a letter to cancel it, otherwise France Telecom may continue to charge you for this. This letter must be sent by 'lettre recommandée avec accusé de réception,’ available from La Poste.  If you are on preselection with another operator, then you will need to cancel this by the same method. We can send you a letter to forward onto them. You will need to fill out and return to us an 'Options' form, which you need to choose such items as 'answerphone' transfer of call etc, which you wish to have installed on your telephone.
  3. 'Primus Line' - 28.90 € TTC per month INCLUDING your France Telecom line rental PLUS unlimited landline calls to FRANCE, UK and USA.  http://www.as24telecom.com/
  4. Hello Angela. Many hosts provide simple but effective online website building software. You choose from a set of templates, customize the colours etc., enter your text , click "upload" et voilà, your site's online. I can recommend 1&1.co.uk, though there are many more. Good luck!
  5. The control panel that your host provides should give you info about bandwidth use, number of visitors, etc.
  6. Yes, it means you should contact your website host and change your contract (pay extra) so that you are allowed more bandwidth (Wikipedia: "In website hosting, the term "bandwidth" is often used metaphorically, to describe the amount of data that can be transferred to or from the website or server, measured in bytes transferred over a prescribed period of time. This can be more accurately described as 'Monthly Data Transfer'. Web hosting companies often quote a monthly bandwidth limit for a website, for example 500 gigabytes per month. If visitors to the website download a total greater than 500 gigabytes in one month, the bandwidth limit will have been exceeded.")

  8. Are you thinking of limewash (whitewash)? It's easy to apply (to a suitable base) and repels insects.
  9. This morning I received what I believe to be a phishing mail, supposedly from Wanadoo / Orange. I've reported it to Orange but have not yet heard anything. In the meantime, if you receive this mail, I suggest that you do not click the link. The mail reads: ****** From: Orange votre service clients internet <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Subject: suppression du pr鬨vement automatique de votre carte bancaire   Bonjour, Le montant de votre facture Internet d'Orange est actuellement d颩t頡utomatiquement chaque mois de votre carte bancaire. **** My email programme warns that the link is not the real "www.orange.fr" link, although the "ici" one seems to be. I might be being too cautious, but rather too cautious than an empty bank account! Will post again if / when I hear something from Orange.
  10. Take a look at Telerabais (www.telerabais.fr/): cheaper than OneTel (international: 2.8 cts/min during the day, 1.4 cts/min evenings/weekends/holidays) and no separate bill (appears on your FT bill) -- and they don't charge, like OneTel does, for not using their service!
  11. immofr, you should check the "sense" of your sentences before criticising others for not making sense: "From someone who can't even spell the words ... to criticise ..." is grammatically incorrect.
  12. Open a Gmail (Google mail): it's free and you get your "com"!
  13. To sort your Firefox bookmarks into alphabetical order, simply right click anything on the list and then choose "Sort by name".
  14. Hi Danny. No. I didn't call. I've decided to stick with Orange for the time being and continue to use Telerabais for my calls outside France. As I said, I can't risk being without ADSL (I need it for my work) and have more faith in FT when it comes to the crunch (of thunder and falling trees - quelle vie, quelle vie!): in seven years, I've spent just two half-days without a phone / Net connection. Free is 5 euros more expensive per month, and for 5 euros I can call for 6 hours all over Europe (in the evenings, that is) - and that's more than enough for me. I hope, though, that Orange will see the light (at the bottom of their purse) and reduce their ADSL charges / increase their service offer. At the same time, I hope that their competition matures and the horror stories on various French forums (see e.g. today's "Free.fr ADSL" posting on this site) become a thing of the past - then I'll change to Free! Greetings from a bit further south - Jimjams (BTW you were right about having to sign up for Orange's unlimited-calls-in-France deal in order to use their unlimited-calls-to-Europe deal.)
  15. I'll call Orange on Monday and then post what I learn. (BTW there are quite a few Liveboxes for sale on eBay.fr)
  16. (Am beginning to get a bit depressed now...) Hello BJSLIV. If you want any of their call inclusive packages you have to take the livebox Where does it say that, please? Do you have a link? If you want to add the international package , you have to opt for their sans abonnment FT package and an 8mg connection. Ditto - Jimjams
  17. Hi yet again Jane & Danny. First, I hope you're wrong about " if you have not got a live box, it is definitely not possible to use the orange voip calls"! Anyone else out there have any ideas? ... am pretty sure that the 7 euros unlimited calls offer is on top of the 10 euro france unlimited calls Agree ... and that if you want to do that you will have to pay the whole 17 euros extra... Disagree (but then I'm an optimist!) ... my point is that the service and price offered by others is superior Price, yes, but service? I'm not so sure. Many of my friends in this area have had a lot of problems with other ISPs. ... we have had zero (whatsoever) call charges for a year. Orange are only just starting to offer this and its more expensive and it is not as comprehensive as the others. Agree. The trouble is, I work from home and must have an Internet connection every day. I was thinking of switching to Free ADSL (I like their setup and have had an account with them since the very beginning), but am worried about finding myself without ADSL for several days or weeks. Did your transfer to Free go well? Greetings from a hot 82 - Jimjams
  18. Hi again Jane & Danny.how do you get a 24.95 offer? Under "a la carte" on the Orange site is that just adsl or adsl plus the previous version of telephone illimite as well? Just ADSL (because the debit here is too small for TV) Also, are you sure about the 7 euros offer? Yes. It's very new (I checked just 4-5 days ago) From what I understand, Orange already charges 10 euros extra (unless one has a 12 month contract) for their calls 'illimite' which is just to fixed lines in France. This is something different. Follow the steps I described in my first mail. I assume that the new offer to other countries is on top of that.??? I don't know. For me it's perfect: I don't make many calls to French numbers, but I make lots to the UK, Holland, Spain and Greece. Also to use the VOIP calls you must use a Livebox. Are you sure about that? I searched through this site and several people seem to be saying that a Netgear modem/router will handle it. I have to say that I find Orange's charging structure extremely complicated - and not for any good reason either. There is no real reason why they have waited a long time to offer these services other than to keep their customers paying loads for as long as possible. Exactly. Orange is a business. Free make a profit, too. Anyway, here's what you get for your 7 euros. Vers les fixes en Europe : - Açores - Allemagne - Andorre - Autriche - Belgique - Danemark - Espagne et Canaries - Finlande - Grèce - Guernesey - Irlande - Italie et Vatican - Jersey - Liechtenstein - Luxembourg - Madère - Monaco - Norvège - Pays-Bas - Portugal - Royaume-Uni - Suède - Suisse Vers les fixes et mobiles d'Amérique du Nord : - Canada - Etats-Unis (hors Hawaï et Alaska) Vers les fixes des DOM : - Martinique - Guadeloupe - Guyane - Réunion
  19. Hi Jane & Danny.I can only get 1MB service from Orange (don't know about other peoples lines) at 29.99 I pay 24,95 a month plus rental of modem/router, 3 euros Better to buy a modem / router and unlimited VOIP service for an extra 7 euros. That makes 39.99 a month with 12 month engagement (without 12 month engagement the total is 44.99) For me, it makes 31.95 (my initial, 12-month contract has expired, which means I can cancel at any time) With Free, for example, it is 2.4MB with all the above for 29.99 a month including modem/router and the VOIP calls with them go to more countries. With this in mind, I'm not sure why you are so against going with Orange's competitors. Maybe there are other reasons? What am I missing? I always do my best to support the underdog - but ADSL is fairly new to France and I believe that at the moment one can get the best service from the people who operate the phone lines - FT / Orange. When I read the complaints about being without a connection for days or even weeks, I'm glad I'm with Orange: despite the storms and downed lines (I live in the middle of nowhere), I've been without ADLS for only 6 hours in the last 2.5 years. The FT engineers arrive within a couple of hours. Anyway, I'm glad you're happy with Free (I used them when I still had to dial in).
  20. If you already have Orange ADSL, you can now sign up for unlimited calls to the rest of Europe (plus 30 free minutes to mobiles in France) for 7 euros a month. You can cancel the contract whenever you want without paying a penalty. About time too! Glad I waited and didn't sign up with Neuf, Club-Internet, Alice or Free... Go to http://www.orange.fr/bin/frame.cgi?u=http://nos-offres.orange.fr/om2a-gamme-tripleplay.html Click on "A la carte", and the info is halfway down the page.
  21. Jetski wrote: "... we asked the estate agent with us if there was any chance of getting planning permission as it was deemed non constructable, she said no ..." Which is why the price was what it was. Three acres + lake + CU would have cost a lot more. "Would be grateful for any suggestions" Don't use a jetski on the lake or you'll never get permission!
  22. Get a letter to them before the 20th of the month and you'll be cut off at midnight on the last day of that month. However, if you're still under contract with them, you'll continue paying until the contract expires.
