  1. For reasons of both age and health I approached my Axa insurance agent to ask to cancel my motorcycle insurance one month prior to the renewal date. My request was then to start a new policy for a 812cc Buggy which I have now got, I was then informed that I couldn’t cancel the motorcycle insurance as it still needed to be insured, even if it’s not being used and parked in my garage which is part of my property. Would it have made any difference had I written a letter asking to cancel then sent it by registered post. I initially refused to pay 187.50€ but had to succumb as Axa threatened legal action. So now I’m paying for two vehicles, at a cost of 430€. Can anyone give some good advise on the correct procedure to resolve this situation.
  2. As I initially said I was completely in the dark on this matter and was seeking constructive information for the registration procedure. It transpires that the vendor omitted to include his wife’s name and signature on the Declaration because her name is also on the Carte Grise. The 300+ is the registration costs which I will send with the other documents when the new declaration has been returned. I returned the Declaration to the vendor with a note explaining what was required to complete the registration; he will then return the new declaration with his and his wife’s signatures. This will then allow me to complete the registration of the vehicle. Thank you Sue and Dave21478.
  3. As Sue explained, it was a registration fee. Why do you think I’m asking these questions? I didn’t know that both he and his wife’s signatures should be on the declaration. As I said, I have never gone through this process of buying a vehicle before. I didn’t say that I don’t have the carte Grise, I don’t have a Carte Grise in my Name as yet, it is still in the vendor’s name. As for your list, I could certainly tick off all bar the last of the Items on your list, if you had met the guy and his family there wouldn’t be anything to worry about. I sincerely think that it was just an oversight on his part. In fact he was quite willing to accept the fact that payment would be authorized first thing the following morning, which it was, he was even good enough to deliver the vehicle for me after the transfer was completed; this would be over a three hour round trip.
  4. Hi ET. It was the vendor who made the mistake of not including his wife's name and signature on the declaration as she too has her name on the Carte Grise. This is the reason it was returned to me.
  5. Hi , Sue. Thank you very much for that Sue. No you certainly aren't stating the obvious as you are the first to mention this fact, and this was something that I genuinely didn't know a thing about, so could this 300+ be something to do with that?
  6. Hi Euro. After searching the departments web site it did cite the one month ruling which I found at the end of the second week so I did get all the paperwork sent off in plenty of time, It did also mention the fine for lateness, but it was no where near what they require from me as it closer to 400€. This is why I’m expecting the vendor to pay for his mistake.
  7. I have a problem with renewing the Carte Grise, It appears that the previous owner of the vehicle who is French failed to include his wife’s name on the Déclaration de Cession d’un Véhicle this has meant that I have been hit with a penalty of over 300€. I have just returned the Déclaration back to the guy I bought the vehicle off along with a letter saying that as he needs to write out another Déclaration with his wife’s details as well as his own. He seemed to be a very reasonable person so I’m hoping that he will also pay this fine as he is responsible. Another problem I have is would I be entitled to drive it? I do have the insurance for this vehicle but at the moment without the Carte Grise I have no proof of ownership, so how do I stand in this situation?
  8. Hi folks. . I have just bought a French vehicle and as this is my first time, I need to know the complete list of documents that are required to register the vehicle in my name. Any sound advice will be appreciated.
  9. Sid, it’s not just my age that’s comes into play but health too, and this is now my main problem as over the last couple of years it has become a bigger problem and is becoming worse and I find myself struggling to do things that I was once able to do. Reference to the old song by Jake Thackery!!! Was it the Bernard Bradden show that he was on?? One good thing is though the buggy is as open to the elements as a bike, both my arms and legs will be in front of me as on a Harley HOG and it will still do 70MPH+. Thanks to everyone who pointed me in the right direction on the insurance.
  10. Retiring from bikes after 55 years in the saddle. Because of both my age and the condition of my heath I’m calling it a day and hanging up all my riding gear and transfering to an open to the elements four wheeler, a buggy to be exact. The reason is that pushing a 518lb bike in and out of the garage completely knackers me. I went to see the insurance agent and I was told that as I still have a bike on the premises I would need to maintain some form of insurance on the bike until it’s sold. Has anyone ever heard of this?
  11. Every month I enter the date and the exact amount I receive into my French bank account from both of my UK pensions then at the end of the twelve month period. I tot up the total that I have received and that is my total income, IE 10000€ and this is what I submit on my form. What could be more honest? Besides this is how S D told me to do it, and I have never had any problems.
  12. I know that I'm a bit late coming into this discussion but has anyone suggested an Excelsior Manxman? The reason I ask is that a friend owned a bike very similar to that in the photo and the Manxman had over head cams and the rocker cover and the bevel drive look very similar, it's just a thought. I would also like to point out that a lot of the old race machines did have a pillion seat so that the rider could get as aero dynamic as possible with his chin on the tank.
  13. I agree completely with Nomoss, the rate is from the day the money is paid and not when it's received. My government pension is paid at a very good rate while my company pension which is controlled by the PPF is a lot lower meaning the PPF is using a different transfer mechanism.
  14. Newton’s Principia Mathematica was written in Latin; Einstein’s first influential papers were written in German; Marie Curie’s work was published in French. Yet today, most scientific research around the world is published in a single language, English. Since the middle of the last century, things have shifted in the global scientific community. English is now so prevalent that in some non-English speaking countries, like Germany, France, and Spain, English-language academic papers outnumber publications in the country’s own language several times over. In the Netherlands, one of the more extreme examples, this ratio is an astonishing 40 to 1.
  15. I would like to point out that in all sciences English is the common language, it’s also the same in the pharmaceutical industry, This is possibly why English is the required language in a lot of French schools, even our local college teaches English.
  16. I have been going to a local supplier for the last four years and I always order in bulk , in early October I ordered 2000ltrs of premium and was quoted 0.654 centièmes = 1.308€ so buying in bulk is certainly worth it. The price does however depend on where you are in France.
  17. Cheers Andyh4. I will give that a try.
  18. Hi Folks. What would be the safest and quickest way to send a passport back to the UK? Registered of course.
  19. I actually came across a French web-site from a link on an UK site which was all about specials, the type we are all talking about, unfortunately I have miss-placed this link but it was very similar to the Lomax owners club web-site. This site had a Beach buggy on French plates so as you say tsang4 if you have all the relevant paper-work then surely you should be able to register your Buggy after all Secma built a 1200cc buggy that looks more like a desert racer which is road legal.
  20. idun. A friend took the original prescription to the doctor but for some reason the doctor wasn't sure about one of the two medications, this might be due to the fact that doctors hand writing is often illegible. So intend to phone the specialist this morning and ask to contact my doctor to confirmed the medications. Hopefully then might get some much needed relief. Thanks for your input.
  21. idun. This Ordonnance was originally issued over two years ago, Feb 2014, so wondering if this time span might be a problem? Thanks in anticipation.
  22. Thanks idun. Yes I do still have the original prescription from the specialist for the nebuliser medication, so will contact the doctor tomorrow. Fortunately I did have a couple of the two vials of medications, that was yesterday, so shall endeavour to go and see the doctor. Thanks again.
  23. Last week I for some reason caught a cold, this is bad news for me as I suffer with a respiratory problems . Some time ago the specialist at the hospital gave me a prescription for a course of nebuliser treatment which was of great help, but when I caught this cold I asked my doctor if it was possible to write a prescription for this same course I had from the specialist but wasn’t able to prescribe this medication. In the mean time I’m struggling with the clogged tubes which has reduced my activities to more or less zero. Is this the norm throughout France?
  24. I most certainly did, and I wrote a little message asking if his dog had lost this? This was done very early in the morning.
  25. I have just been back on Le Bon Coin and what did I find a Beach Buggy for sale on French plates and is using a VW chassis.
