  7. I to agree that everything has E's in it, even fruit juice!!, low fat biscuits, kids yoghurts! i have a 3 year old son and struggle to find many things here without E's in them, sweets are horrendous, either the UK isnt as bad i first thought or France is to honest on the labelling!! We find it expensive here, is it that i am to used to Asda, my mother in law thinks its cheaper than in Scotland i certainly dont, roast beef, braising steak and lamb are definately more expensive. Ive been making Weight Watchers recipes, at least i know its low-ish in fat with the products im using, but i've struggled to find, low fat sausages or turkey mince!!! Where is all the cheap, good, healthy foods!!

  11. I have moved with my husband and small child to Brittany, been here since May, i am not entitled to E106 as i havent worked in past two years, i have tried to read the CPAM site and others to get info but i am not sure what my first step should be with regards to health care and top ups etc. My husband is continuing to work with his father who has also moved here, they both work from home with there online company.  They have met an accountant who advised there is no rush for us to apply for our carte de sejour. I have also been to our mairie to register (enregistrement des citoyens européens) but with very little success i was handed a brochure on the village! I am very un sure as to what i should do first, any advice please? We both speak a little french as were learning which isnt helping!. Thanks

  14. Hi   We currently rent our house through an immobilier, our contract states that the lease is for 3 years but we must give 3 months notice if we wish to cancel, the owner of the house must give us 6 months notice.  When collecting the keys for the house we had to provide a copy of the house insurance that we have taken out.  Decorating is another thing, we can paint the walls but when we leave the house it must be painted back to the original colour.  Deposits are worked out to be around one months rent.  The day we moved into the house the immobilier came with us and we all went round the house and a list was made of things that were marked or scraped etc so it is in writing what was there before the tenants arrive. Hope this helps
  15. Hi I live near Vannes, Morbihan since April and have been trying with no success to find any childrens indoor or outdoor play centres, we had lots in Scotland, large soft play areas with slides and ride along toys etc does any one know of anything like this in France, i have a extremley active 3 year who will need somewhere to burn all that energy come the winter months!! thanks
  16. Britiline have emailed to say that the passport must be stamped by my bank
  17. this was what the person dealing with my application at britline replied after i had sent the photocopy of my passport, it wasnt stamped by my bank but the teller had written original, signed, dated and some number i assumed was her identication/employee number, but this is not acceptable, i have emailed britline today only to be told that they recieve lots of verifications each day and that i should try another branch of my bank which i will do but i do not think it will be work.   Certified Copy of your Passport We are unable to accept copies certified by any other then your bank. Certification must be done by your main bank as per the following guidelines: they must apply their official stamp then sign, write "original vu" and add the date. This must be done on the photopage. The date must be within the last 3 months to be valid
  18. I am applying for a britline bank account and need my passport verified from my bank which is the Halifax, i went to my bank today and was told that it is not in there policy to stamp my passport and write on it that its an original the bank will only take a photo copy and sign and date the copy.  I had previously got them to do this and sent the photocopy from my bank which was returned.  Has this happened to anyone else, what do i do if my bank wont verify any passports and Britline wont let me open the account otherwise.
  19. Can anyone please tell me what the process is and how long it takes from viewing property to getting the keys to rent a house through an immobilier, what verification is required etc?  Cant seem to find any info online about this :(
  20. We want to rent a house in or around Vannes, Morbihan asap, any ideas?  Meeting immobiliers in 2 weeks but there doesnt seem to be many houses online i think most are done private

  23. Ok, we dont have any other properties or financial commitments, this will be our home, we can have a deposit of 10% maybe not the full 20% and want to borrow the rest to buy our house when we find it, it wont be a new build i know that for certain i have been looking but struggling on the net to even try and decide which mortgage suppliers to approach just for information as none really advertise that they supply 100% mortgages Oh and were Scottish not American! :)
  24. I read in a magazine something about joint accounts being frozen if the other person passes away? Is this right?
