  1. I'm a journalist living in France, researching the subject of depression and how people who live in France cope with it. In particular I am trying to find out if anyone has experience of anything other than the doctor handing out anti depressant tablets. Has anyone used alternative therapies, psychiatric help, counselling, cognisive behaviour therapy - my research so far shows this has not travelled across the Channel, has anyone found a self-help group, or have these not travelled across the water either? The article is to be printed in a quarterly UK magazine for depression sufferers. All information will be treated in the utmost confidentiality, no names or case histories will be mentioned.  The article will merely focus on treatment and/or lack of it.  If anyone can help with my research, please email me direct, and I will be pleased to refer them to the magazine editor who verify the above, should they so wish. 2. Hi We have a lurcher who can jump.  We put up a fence 2 metre high, netting, and are trailing honeysuckle, bignone, and other climbing plants over it.  He could jump the stone wall at our previous house, but he can't get a grip on the sheep netting fencing. When you come to get your hound, look on www.adopter-levrier.com, there is an English page.  I recently went on a rescue mission with the L'Europe des Levriers team to Spain and brought back 20 galgos.  They are the Spanish greyhound.  Besides rehoming, the association is also putting pressure on the Spanish government to stop greyhound racing and hunting with galgos, to stop the horrendous cruelty inflicted on these gentle affectionate dogs after hunting finishes at the end of January.  Worth joining them, only 20 euros a year. Good luck when you get your dog, and enjoy it. B
  3. I'm researching an article on carriage driving in France.  I'd be grateful to hear from anyone who practices this, and would be willing to answer some questions, mainly about the differences in harness, carriages, etc.  Doesn't matter whether for competition or teaching or just going round the lanes. Thanks B
  4. We have a couple of hectares of meadowland surrounded by trees and undergrowth, and would like to plant it out - or part of it - to make a wildlife haven.  Does anyone know of an organisation (in France) which might be interested in helping with advice on what to plant, and where to obtain the plants?
  5. Hi Will Thank you for your help.  Local French horse owners I have talked to just say - it's not your problem'!  So I will have a word at the Mairie. B
  6. Hi Thank you, I did not know of this site.  Will see where I can go with them. B
  7. Does anyone know if there is a system for reporting neglect and therefore cruelty to horses in France, such as the ILPH charity in the UK. I have contacted the ILPH to ask if they know of one, and they do not; they are mainly interested in improving the horse transport in Europe. The problem is that during my riding around our department, (Western France), we occasionally see neglect cases.  The one at the moment is a little pony whose hooves are so long that it can barely walk.  My French is good, but not good enough to cope with knocking on the door of the house next to the pony's meadow, finding out who the owner of the pony is, and suggesting they get its feet attended to yesterday. How do any other Brit horse riders deal with such situations as this in France?
