1. We have been trying to adopt a Great Dane for a while now. What a joke dog adoption in France seems to be. Either there is no one to look at our house to see if we are fit, or the adoption folks just dont seem to be interested. Worst culprit are the folks at dogueallemandntore.com, the woman in charge just doesnt seem to get it. In the end I guess we will just buy one, while the adoption agencies 're-home' theirs.
2. Not a brit but am in the general region.. work in the UK though..
3. Iceni, I had stuff in the suitcases and not my one suitcase represents my poor life.. 4 shirts, three trousers, my external hard disk, a suit and pair of shoes if you must know.   Why did I move here? My wife wanted to be close to her family...
4. I moved to France with two suitcases and nothing else wife had two cases as well. In the ensuing time bought a house, all the furniture, brought the dog over from India. And have put up with all kinds of rubbish. So now I bid you farewell with one suitcase only. And wish you all a better life and time in France that I have had.
5. Why have they disallowed the 338? Sounds wierd even for the NRA
6. Alcohol is definetely cheaper in France. You will pay an average of 20-30% more in the UK than in France.
7.
But I recall the previous postings, you chose to stay here and staying here means paying here as we all have to do.
Lets not confuse what my wife chooses to do with me. I play along for marital peace... not that there is too much of that at times either. I do pay my taxes... but am I happy about the chunk it takes out of my income? No.
8. Actually not my choice to live here :)
9. Anyone know of a range that goes beyond 300 meters? I have been shooting at Versailles (300 meters)... and it isnt long enough...  but it is better than the 100 meter range I typically shoot at. I would like to go between 500 and 1200 meters ideally... need to strech the 338 L out... :)
10. Me its fairly simple... If Ms. Royal wins I am out of here... simply because I can not stand being taxed any higher than I am. Mr. Sarkozy... I probably will not qualify for immigration... so it would be good bye. Joy hallelujiah....
11. No wonder I am getting reamed by taxes... I havent come across a country that penalises you as much for doing well...
12.
Is it that we are so used to Iraq deaths that we don't care? or is it just because it's Iraq?  If that had happened anywhere in the Western World can you imagine the outcry? Yet in Iraq, bombings are almost a daily occurrance with many people dying dreadfully.  You have to ask who are the American and allied forces fighting?  If they (we) went there to 'Liberate' the Iraqi people, why so many more deaths now than when Saddam was in power?  Yes we all know it's a power struggle but surely this should have been thought of before invading or following up with the 'Surge' or am I just naive......
Nope... you ahve hit the nail on the head. The US has a very poor record when it tries to "export democracy", Korea, Vietnam, Chile, Panama, Afghanistan are just some of the examples. Over the last six years, the world has become an extermely dangerous place. The deaths in Iraq are an everyday occurance, and have ceased to shock us. The News media thrives on sensationalism. Everything else is not news worthy...
13.
If you want to discuss it, would you like to start by giving your view/opinion? For other posters, I'm guessing Afy is referring to the (apparent) mass murder by lone student gunman at Virginia Tech. USofA
My view is fairly straight forward: The guy was mentally disturbed, the institutionalisation should have appeared on his record and stopped his purchase of the guns. Then again one guy with farm goods killed 270, and 18 with knives did away with 3000. I personally dont think it would have stopped his lust for blood, but it just wouldnt have happened with guns. Another senseless waste of life, and destoryed families due to this tragedy.
14.
I'm really worried about the association Afy, I know you're obsessed about firearms. I personally don't think you're fit to be in charge of weaponry.
Yes I do like firearms, and am not going to apologize about that. If some lunatic goes on a rampage it isnt any legal gun owner's fault. If he had gone on rampage with a meat cleaver, would you blame butchers?  And personally I do not believe you could be a judge of my fitness to own weapons or not. But that is your opinion and you're welcome to it. As for the sad event detracting from Iraq, do you believe it to be a conspiracy? I do not see how the two are interconnected?
15. Typically it is difficult to save people from scams where the heart is involved. The saying the "only the people you never expect it from are the one who truly hurt you" exists for a reason.   Good luck though... either way you will be a villian.
16. .................... .................   Nothing on the VT tragedy?
17. You should be able to work as a contractor. I know a few people doing this, who are most definetely not set up as micro's.
18. There is some paper work that does need to be done by the seller. Forms that need to be filled and sent out. However it does seem that sometimes people tend not to do it especially at boot sales. Which is of questionable legality and I wouldnt reccomend that. You do need to show paperwork to buy ammunition, even if you can get a gun without any...
19.
I don't understand why you're using paper targets when you could be using the cat instead?
Ah well the Wife shoots as well... and I dont want to be a target either... The cat just showed up one day at the door... and decided to move in. The Dog pretty much puts up with him as an irritant.
20.
No. If she is your legal wife in the UK she has the same rights to live in europe as do you.  Regardless of where she comes from. Not enough Brits know their european rights in this area it seems. Have sent you a PM ok?.
Technically you're correct but th implimentation of this is still not in place. I am a non-eu person, while my wife is French. Technically under EU law I can live and travel whereever I wish in the EU, however I still do need Visa's and Work permits for the UK and Ireland. Just my personal experience.
21. Adding to my gun collection and evidently killing a lot of paper targets Travelling a little And putting up with sulking babies who have to share a couch between them
22. All guns need to be declared. My guess is that you would need to apply for a local license, by joining a shooting club. Hunting licenses I have no clue about since I dont hunt. Gun ownership is easier in France than in the UK.
23. John, I havent actually ever "lived" in the UK per se. However I have lived in the US for a while and in India. In the former ammo is cheap enough not to really bother with reloading, and in India equipment is expensive enough to make buying ammo cheaper. French gun laws are wierd. hand guns are strictly controlled other than Black powder, which is considered less dangerous than a Paintball gun. However once you are a part of a shooting club, buying rifles in calibers other than those deemed military (.223/5.56/7.63x39/.308/9 mm) is straight forward. I currently have a .222 Magnum (Case is longer than a .222) where ammo is not easy to come by. Which is why I want to get into it. I also have a Mauser 98k in 8x64 and a .300 WSM on the way... so it makes sense. From a laws viewpoint again fairly straight forward as long as you have a license youre good to go or so my armourie tells me. I currently shoot hand guns at 25/50 meters and rifles at 50-100 meters currently though would like to work up to 600-1000 meters ultimately.
24. Does anyone reload their own Ammo? I dont hunt... but to shoot copious amounts of ammunition each week. And now that I have gotten into larger calibers... the costs are significant... I have never reloaded ammo? So would greatly appreciate any pointers...
25. Thankyou for the link... I have also gotten my self one of those kits with various fragrances to smell before drinking the wine... Unfortunately I have a cold currently so am still gulping it down... :) But I do solemnly promise I will endeavour to teach my self about wine...
