  1. Check out www.motorhomefacts.com you'll find loads of help and information there. Large numbers of Brits take their motorhomes to France every year (including us), so you'll never be alone if you need help!
  2. Can anyone help me out here....I have had a request from some guests regarding where to find a good restaurant serving fish near Prayssac. As we are still newish to the area and don't like fish.  ..we don't have a clue yet....any advice will be most welcome. Carol
  3. Thanks to all for all the advice, websites and comments - even the cheeky one (it made me chuckle). All we need now is a clear night - it has been cloudy every night since the thing arrived - then he can get started! Moonbus
  4. Can anyone out there help - I've just bought my other half a much wanted telescope for his 50th but he will probably need a little help and guidance as he is a complete novice. We are near St Jean D'Angely (17) just now but will be going further south to Dordogne/Lot border are in April. Any help would be appreciated. [:D]
  5. I'd like to add my bit about taking your kids to a new life......talk to them. Like Debandchris and Eos, I was 13 and my brother 14, when my parents took us abroad to Australia.   We only stayed 5 months for various reasons, but I hated it from start to finish, it completly mucked up our education - I hated the school, I was bullied from day one, and I suffered physically in the extreme heat. My brother on the other hand had a ball, and although it took both of us a long time to catch up educationally, left him with nothing but good memories. Only you know your kids, but you must talk to them but most importantly, you have to ask  them if it is what they want - my parents never asked us at all.
  6. I have been for an interview for a job in France and may have to make the final decision within the next few days as to whether or not I take the job (if offered) and stay in France permanently. So can anybody give me a hand here? If I get the job, as far as I am aware, I will be eligible to 'enter' the french healthcare system as it will be permanent employment in France.  However, if my partner decides that he wants to move here with me permanently what will happen to him? He has an MOD pension which is fine, but he also receives longterm incapacity benefit and also - the dreaded - Disability Living allowance - mobility component. Am I right in understanding that he will remain eligible for his incapacity benefit but not (at the moment anyway) his DLA? I realise there is a lot going on with the changes in law/legislation, and that there are several hoops to jump through, but I would like to make a reasonably informed decision.
  7. Thanks Weegie this is very helpful!
  8. I am currently renting  for 6 months only and intending returning to the UK in March. Unfortunately since my arrival I have developed a 'health problem' for which I have had to attend the doctor on 3 occasions, have had several different medications prescribed and have now been referred to a spcecialist who insisted I had a blood test done. As you can imagine I have a growing collection of Feuilles de soins. So..the question is...how do I go about claiming the costs back?
  9. Thanks for that..all I have to do now is find a health food shop :)
  10. Can anybody help me - what is rice flour called in France?   I am wanting to make shortbread and it is better with rice flour but I cant find it anywhere!
  11. Thanks for that!! Happy  knitting.
  12. Can anyone suggest where to buy yarn which is 100% wool.  We are staying in dept 17  (near Archingeay/St  Jean d'Angely) for 6 months and during the winter I like to knit  because it keeps my knees warm [:D]  - but didn't think I would have such a problem buying wool. I have been able to find lots of acrylic mixes. If all else fails I can get some sent from the UK but would prefer to buy here.  Any like minded knitters out there who can help?
  13. As you can see my fingers are already crossed which always leads to terrible typing!
  14. Thanks for that Ernie, although the prospect of retruning to dial speeds horrifies me!  I'll just have to keep my fingers crossed.
