1. Received three packages I've been waiting over a week for and although they are all from different countries, UK, France and Jersey, they have all arrived with the same labeling. They have not been opened but are all the same type of padded 'jiffy bags'. Weird or what. Or are the customs really opening every package ? the white dots are merely to blank out our address.
2. Open up the case and vacuum it out. Works 9 times out of ten .
3. Shell Ads Competition [:D][:D][:P] .
4. Thanks to everyone - the UK it is then. .
5. With my eldest daughter getting married in the UK in October and the fact that I don't even own a suit of any description, does anyone know if its possible to hire a morning suit in France?
6. I'm just back from a brilliant week riding in the Cevennes (Tarn Gorges etc). Just amazing. What wasn't so good was on the first day of the trip on the run down to the Riders Rest B&B I had a puncture at 130kph on the A20. First I was aware of a problem was when a small weave started that very quickly became big weave. Slowed the bike down (I think the fact I was fully loaded with camping gear helped) and managed to get into the very conveniently placed service area. Luckily the tyre stayed on the rim. When I stopped the back of the bike was covered in pink slime and a rather large hole was found right in the centre of the tread (but no foreign object). I put a total of four plugs in the hole but it wouldn't seal mainly because, I'm told, the tyres were filled (by the previous owner) with this pink stuff that supposedly stops punctures, actually prevents the plugs from doing their job. Tony from the B&B really put himself out and came out to recover me with a trailer (thanks mate) He took me and the bike into Brive the next day where I had two new tyres fitted. This was my first bike puncture in over 40 years of riding so I guess I've been quite lucky. As for the 'slime' sh!t, well I wouldn't even think about using it.
7. Finally got back home today after a week of playing in and around the Cevenne. Seven riders on a mixture of bikes.   Day one. Rain and a puncture, great start.[:@] (see my puncture thread) We stayed overnight on the way down and on our return at the Riders Rest B&B in Treigiac, a simply superb place to stay where Tony & Wendy will make you very welcome. Day two. Sunshine and hot - low 30's Taken by trailer to Brive to have two new tyres fitted (don't like mixing tyres and they didn't have an Avon). The others set off for the campsite and wonder of wonders, I got there first ;). It appears that some 'sat-nav' gremlins had crept in, well that was their story anyway. The campsite we had chosen (Camping Chon du Tarn) was good if a bit basic, but had lots of shade and a river for swimming in right next door. Booking in was totally laid back as the office was nearly always closed but we did eventually manage to pay for our 4-night stay. Exorbitant at 7.50 euros per person per night. [:D] Day three. Hotter still 34 degrees. Went off on a circular route to the east taking in Villefort - Genolac - and other villages and found some amazing roads. Coffee stops, steak & chips lunch and hot tyres - what more could anyone want. Day four. As three. More riding and skills clearly improving (I still struggle with some hairpins though) I put it down to my GS being a big bike. We rode the Tarn Gorge and it is (for those who haven't been, some of the best roads in France. Visited 'Le Point Sublime' access to which is an awsome multi-hairpin severe climb with a perfect road surface. The stuff of dreams. Day five. Hot. Chill out day and two of our group left for home. did a bit of shopping and we had an evening meal in the square in Florac. 12.5 euros for a full four courses and very good food. Day six. Cloudy - oh good we thought, good for riding. An hour later we were sweating as per the 'norm'. All packed up and on the road by 0830. Took an interesting route from Florac back to Riders Rest, through St Flour - Riom es Mont and Bugeat, some great roads. Some photos. On my way to the campsite on new tyres  a smoke-break in the Tarn Gorge. The sausage seller. Packhorse & driver - what a great way to travel around. The shopkeeper had a moan at him for tying his horse up in front of the shop but he told her to p1ss off and so did the horse when he dumped about a hundredweight of poo right on the entry. Another day in the office. Seeking out some shade. Le Point Sublime, simply stunning viewpoint with a wild, multi-hairpin approach road. 8. Lets just clarify something, there is NO requirement to carry two in your vehicle. I, like many others, never drink and drive and therefore would never need to self-test myself. I have one in each vehicle to produce if required and that is all the law requires.

11. With those sort of questions are you sure you are ready to move to France ? A few points from our experience. Living off capital will result in it disappearing at a frightening rate. Finding a job is not as easy as the UK and you will need a good inkling of french. Gites as an income can be very difficult and shouldn't even be considered without a lot of research. How much do you need to live is a bit like a piece of string but I think 1200-1500 euros a month is a minimum, assuming no mortgage, debts.

14. An English cat and a French cat had a swimming race. The English cat was called 'one two three' And the French cat was called 'un deux trois' One two three cat won, because un deux trois cat sank. [:)] .

20.
BF insist on a muzzle at Caen - can't say for other ports as only ever used this one.  LD lines at Le Harve ignored it.  From the UK to France not required, at least from our experience they don't even check the chip.
From BF site: Does my dog need a muzzle when travelling? Please note that dogs are now required to wear muzzles (all routes) at all times they are outside the owner's vehicle, either during the check-in process or during transfer on board if occupying a kennel.  Owners must provide the muzzles and remain responsible for their pet's behaviour at all times.
21. Don't forget you will need a muzzle when booking in and getting the dog chip/checked
22. I know [:P]  but this really is a well written article on the true situation in the UK. "Meanwhile, our national debt — what we owe as a nation — continues to soar. According to International Monetary Fund projections, it will increase faster over the next two years than any other leading European country apart from Spain. Proportionate to the size of our economy, our debt is one of the two or three highest in the developed world. When the Coalition took over, it stood at a stonking £1,002 billion. By the time of the next election, it will have risen to an unbelievable £1,613 billion."
