  1. I agree. A lot are just scare mongering warnings but this one bothers me. After reading the thread I had 2 emails from banks that I deal with as they now send notification of statements. and other info. Even though I have spam protection etc I am becoming more cautious about opening that sort of email eg  "You called at our bank recently How Did We Perform". A thought I had was to open such like emails on a Tab computer so as to try to avoid infection into my laptop files thus avoiding the problem. Although I suspect a rogue app on a Tab could steel passwords I don't know what other damage could be done?  Perhaps someone knowledgeable on this technology could advise if this would work also do Tabs need virus protection?
  2. Hi Ellen   Welcome to the forum and Happy Christmas. We had four days in St Maries in October and had avery enjoyable stay. The place is quite small and easily covered on foot. There is a street full of restaurants plus many more including a couple or more bars on side streets. They do a wide menu from Camargue steak to Paella at resonable prices. When we were there There was an exhibition of Camargue horse riding skills and a sort of bull fight where the bull is not killed but the tormentors have to put (or take off) a loop off from the bulls horns. we also went on a boat trip up the petit Camargue.. We saw small Safari trucks takeing people out onto the Camargue. One day we walked quite a way into the Camargue. Nearby is Aigues Morte. When we were there it was some kind of festival where bulls were run through the main street (surrounded by cowboys and cow girls (cow persons ? )) There was also live bands playing in one of the squares.Like St Marie there were many restaurants and a few bars. If you look some of the things that I have mentioned up on YouTube you will get a taste of things to see. We enjoyed it so much we are going back next year.
  3. Hi.    Yes I started to get this message well over a week ago in a Red warning format, so I didn't visit the site. Some time in the past few days it changed to an Amber warning so I have visited several times, but the site looks a bit quiet. Maybe other users are getting the message and staying away. I have run a full scan and found no problems.
  4. Thanks for the info and tips on the doors its very helpfull. Leroy M and Castorama are too far away from us, the Brico depot looked to have what we wanted. We have a Briconaut (helpfull but not much door stock) and a Brico marche. I have never used a Brico depot but it looked the best bet  -  until yesterday when we went back to look at the Brico marche again and found the door that we wanted. It wasn't there eight weeks ago! or before then. Sorted!
  5. In the U.K. Wikes or B&Q sell light internal composite doors for about 30 to 60 pounds.  All the doors and frames that I see in Bricos etc are very expensive and more heavy duty than I need. Does anyone know where I could purchase the Wikes type of door in France?

Maybe if he were to fall in love with a 15 yearold and run away for a few days he would be extradited immediatly ?
  7. Hi  Allan ,     I think the item that you are looking for is called a "kick stool" they are for sale on Amazon U.K I hope this helps or gives you a start to source one in France
  8. Sorry to hear the sad news. Coops was a highly respected person and will be sadly missed by all, as a person, and her contributions on this forum.
  9. I have small blow up pool. I have used cholrine tablets to keep the water clear. When the time comes to replenish the water will it be O.K. to use the water on the veg patch without adverse effects? Has anyone had experience or got any advice on this.
  10. Hi Crossy                I have never looked for a seedless vine over in France but feel sure there will be some. I used to grow a white seedless in my greenhouse in the U.K. It Think it was a Thompson. The grapes were large medium sized sweet and soft skinned. I don't have the greenhouse any more, I gave the vine away. But if you come across one of this variety any time ask the owner for a few cuttings, they root quite well in a peat/sand mixture then over winter in a greenhouse to establish.
  11. I can't answer your question about buying by mail Val but what about the small fridge in the Super Market that has Anglers Bait in it. I'm sure there will be some sort of juicy wiggly things in there that the birds would like!
  12. Thanks for the response to my question. The situation puzzled me because when we bought our property the Notaire insisted on insurance being in force and the Agents name that it was with. I have also read that "You are required by law to be insured against causing damage to Third Parties (responsabilite civil propietaire)" From the information others have posted and from information that I have read then there is a legal requirement of third party insurance at the point of sale and the onus is on the Notaire to ensure that it is in place.   So my next Question is:-  Is there a legal requirement on the insurance company involved to make sure there is a continuation of this insurance? Can a person just give cancellation notice and not be insured?  The position at the moment is that the property owner says they have phoned the insurance company to cancel the insurance but has no intention to pay back payments! I feel very uneasy at the moment. As someone pointed out if there was a fire I would probably have to claim in court and from what I have read on this Forum I don't have the kind of money to do that. Would  the onus be on my insurance company to go to court? Oddly enough it is the same insurance company that I use. This in turn would reflect back to my  New Question :- Is there a legal requirement on the insurance company to ensure continuation of insurance? It is all very worrying,           I am thinking of changing my name to Nonails!
  13. I have been having the same problem also not being able to post at all. My pc has had no changes made for over 12 months other than the usual MS and virus protection so I don't know why this problem has occurred.  However the torn piece of paper advice provided by other posters has helped me get around the problem. So thanks for the information. I thought that I would bump this up again as there seems to be less activity on the forum, maybe more people are having problems.
  14. Hi. Is it a legal obligation for insurance on a house that is habitable and TF+TDH is paid? A strange question but. The reason I ask is that I know of  someone that is selling their house in the next few weeks but have not renewed their insurance since October despite reminders. If a problem occoured with that property that in turn caused damaged to other close by properties. How would reimburesment be made and by whom.
  15. So, Clarkson has apologised for his comments but he clearly has no sympathy to people driven to Suicde and clearly has no sympathy for average people taking degraded pensions. If Clarkson went on strike for a day, week,or year would anyone notice, would anyone care ?
  16. Hi Chrissie. We had the same problem with the gas bottles. I bought some criss-cross trellis and made a small frame about 4 feet high to cover the bottles. We planted a vine to the side of it and trained the vine to grow into the trellis. The flexibility of the vine allows the frame to be moved to allow the bottles to be changed. The vine looks like a feature on the patio through the summer and the bare frame hiding the trellis still looks O.K. when the leaves have fallen.
  17. Thanks Hoddy. We were last there on June 14th and still on diversions ! .
  18. Does anyone know if the bridge has re-opened yet ?
  19. Thanks for the replies. The staddle stones on the link are very similar but larger. A previous owner of our property had said part of it was once used as a grain store so that would fit in with the staddle stone. I had looked at the stone pondering what it could be used for. My thoughts were that it had been used to beat copper jam pans or shape leather or darning sacks or cloth like Bob suggested. The stone would probably look the size of a sock darner from the view he gets flying over!
  20. I have recently had a hire car at Bergerac airport which had quite a few miles on the clock and had 6 listed dents and cracked bumpers. Obviously people have been charged for repairs but none have been made. If people have to pay for a repair they should be shown the repaired artcle. If the repair is not done and the charge has been made to a hirer doesn't that amount to fraud?
  21. On clearing some of the undergrowth in the garden we uncovered a small mushroom shaped stone. It looks to be made of lime stone. I have seen some of these in other peoples gardens. Does anyone know if this item once had a purpose in life or is it just an ornament deserted by the gnomes ?
  22. Hi D.L I didn't know that it was being replaced. Do you have any more info about it like when the work will start ? Pip
  23. Hi Sue, Try calderdale council website. leisure and culture / tourism and travel / tourist information / accommadation info. I live near there and if I see or hear of anywhere I will let you know.
  24. Thanks for your advice and encouragement GG. The way I manage at the moment is that I dig and plant and care for the plot from mid October to mid June. Then I go to France. My daughter and family take over and take the produce. Her two little boys enjoy picking the peas, strawberries and digging 'tatoes ' this is one reason why I would like to keep going.Unfortunatly they don't want to dig the plot. I have talked to my neighbouring plot holder and he has offered to dig it for me or dig plant and crop it for himself for twelve months to see how I recover. So I am lucky enough to have people to help me through this period. I will then have to decide what to do.
  25. Hi thanks for the replies, I have asked the question on our alloment site (80 plots) also at another large site. There are people with various physical conditions heart, limb etc but nobody that has had a hip job. It seems that when someone gets to this stage they hang their spade up and call it a day. Pat thank you for the information and advice that you have given, It is most helpful and has given me a bit of hope to keep the plot on for the next twelve months and see how it goes from there.
