1. Am I imagining it, or did I read in the French press, recently, that the civilian dead in Iraq since the invasion is estimated at THREE QUARTERS OF A MILLION? And Saddam has been sentenced to death for ordering the deaths of 147 people? Something not quite right with those figures if they are correct[:(]
2. ............actually LOOK like her avatar? If not, does it remind anyone lse of a young Duchess Of York? Sorry if this offends anyone, it's not meant to.........
3. Here's one for the brave RAF lads who never came home........ FOR JOHNNY Do not despair For Johnny-head-in-air; He sleeps as sound As Johnny underground. Fetch out no shroud For Johnny-in-the-cloud; And keep your tears For him in after years. Better by far For Johnny-the-bright-star, To keep your head, And see his children fed.
4.
I think Chez means a tachograph, as fitted to lorries to record distances travelled etc., rather than a tachometer. [:)]
Ah...........I had visions of trying to teach my wife to keep the engine near the redline[:D]
5.
I tend to agree about the BMW drivers, there is an expression that springs to find but since this is a family forum i refrain lol Lotus are a speciality car i spose, L-oads O-f T-rouble U-sually S-erious
Bit like Fords: F ix O r R epair D aily.......... Also, F ound O n R ubbish D ump.[:D] Oh, and yes I have............hence my username!
6. Does anyone know what the commonest owl in the world is?                   Apparently, it's a teat-owl[:D]
7.
Mercedes Benz........................ made in Germany = [:D]
Like Opels...............?[:P]
8.

Talking to a Peugeot salesman recently with a view to changing one of the cars. He recommended we looked at................. SEAT Ibiza or Leon! Now that's SOME recommendation.
What !!! As against a Mercedes for instance ? Sounds more like a salesman with the bang hump against Pugs !! [:)]
No, I mentioned we fancied a small diesel and he said it was hard to beat the VAG engines and that SEAT seemed to have the right balance of price vs build quality, as against VW, who bang on about build quality, charge a premium for it, but can't beat the Japs in reliability stakes. I know of two people recently who swear that Mercs have discovered the idea of planned obscolescence[:(]
9. A tacho? I thought a tacho was a rev-counter?
10. Talking to a Peugeot salesman recently with a view to changing one of the cars. He recommended we looked at................. SEAT Ibiza or Leon! Now that's SOME recommendation.
11. Hey, Twinkle, ever read this: http://members.aol.com/tishede/gaiman2.htm I can recommend it.
12. Never needed to use anything more than white vinegar on a cloth.
13. Aha! I was just about to post asking where the thread had gone, I couldn't remeber it's title, or most of the posts, but I'd asked what the NAMES of these other forums, (Fora?) are., and then it diosappeared. If they aren't allowed to be posted on here, could someone PM them to me please, I'd like to look on there too......... Is this forum a bit over-moderated then? If it loses posters, it might be so, but I've not noticed anything obvious, so far, (a week!). Thankyou
14. Ours is only a holiday home at present, which means that the grass is often VERY long when it gets cut, hence the amount of time taken, with frequent emptyings of grass bag[:(] I'd never have thought of how comfy, or otherwise, the seat was.........but then, I'm hoping wife will continue to do most of the cutting.[;-)] However, given the number of dings on HER car, perhaps that's not such a good idea.............. I think I'll start by having a look at the neighbour lady's mower when I next go, as hers did the job OK.
15.
<<<So I'm a heathen>>> yes you are. <<<You can get a bit too serious about these things>>> No you can't. Horses for courses.
Is that guy carrying a CHAINSAW in his avatar?[blink] If so, I'm not arguing with HIM!
16.   I just LOVE that first post, ".............how rubbish is that?"[:D] Thought it was just me who watched the nights draw in with trepidation. Still, only 50 more days and they start to draw out again, and very soon after that, the Blackbirds will begin singing for territory,  snowdrops will come up, then the other birds will begin singing for mates........... How sad, wishing our lives away[:(] I do hate dark nights though.
17. Some very funny replies here, and I've not even started on the red wine yet.[:D] Cassis, what is the difference between the two types of mower you mention, please?[8-)] The 6 hours I quoted was from start to finish, done it all myself, one visit in April this year, when it had not been cut for 6-7 weeks.[blink] It seems to be the grass box that defines the time for cutting. If it's needing emptied more frequently, that is. I'm unsure about mulching.........doesn't that encourage moss growth, or something? Also, I can get rid of the cuttings, we do compost, and the local farmer's cows eat some of it.
18. Dick Smith: is it easy to apply? I've not had a great deal of success with Ronseal type stuff, often finding brushmarks............[8-)] Oh, and when I've applied it to raw wood, it's just raised the grain, then set it hard, leading to it needing sanded again and even after that, I had to apply a coat of wax to get a good finish. That was on teak shelves. Am I doing something wrong?
19. How cheap is cheap? Would I then be better looking at a brand new one with warranty? And is Briconauts, the same as Mr Bricolage? I saw some there last year at offer prices...... We have around 2000 sq m to cut, some slight slopes, few overhanging branches, and few "twiddly bits"[:D] We already have a 6hp self-propelled mower, but the grass takes a good 6 hrs to cut, with numerous trips to empty the heavy grass-box a pain. theis could be used for under trees, twiddly bits etc. the main aim is to get that 6 hours under control. A neighbour cut it for us last year, and she reckoned it took her 45 minutes with only two grass box empties............
20. Thankyou for the replies. What are these products called in French, please?
21. Hello, now for my second question, (the first is in "Renovations"). We seem to need a ride on mower for our French property....at least my wife says we do, and who am I to argue? Would I be best buying brand new? Or can I get one secondhand from a dealer, say? Are there makes to look for, and equally, makes to avoid? Thankyou for reading this and any replies.
22. Hello, this is my first post on here, thankyou for reading it. Next time we visit our property, we are going to install some hardwood, (chestnut), flooring, then sand it with a hired floor sander, then..................? And that's where you come in, all you experts who have done this sort of thing before. What SHOULD we put on our new floor? My wife fancies it a BIT darker than straight chestnut, but what gives a good finish, and looks after the wood? And are there good, and bad stains for the colour required? If it matters, it's in the upstairs of a house.... Thankyou again.
