  1. Thanks for the information, I am just going to nip downstairs and tell him to but the cheque book away until he has read all the info from you both as well as the links!!!
  2. Hi, I am posting this for my husband who is busy reading every bike mag he can lay his hands on!!! we are hoping to move to France this year, he has just passed his test and is selling his (learner )bike and wants to buy a 650 (hope thats right??) anyway he is not sure what advice you bikers would give, should he buy in France or Uk?
  3. Thankyou all for your replies. I am going to read through them all and will no doubt have some questions from this extremely helpful and knowledgeable forum.
  4. Thanks Fi and Will, It doesnt have to be joint and this may sound awful but certainly not intended to but we are looking at it as a way of getting over the problem of the healthcare system, my hubby Mike took early retirement 2yrs ago with the plan to move to france but we have only just sold our hse so he cant get a E106 because he hasnt payed NI for over 2 yrs, he was also diagnosed, treated and has been clear of prostate cancer for 2 years, he is 56.(we expect he wont get health ins for any cancer related condition in the future (hope there isnt any) I am still working so will qualify for a E106 but will have a gap of 3yrs before the E121 kicks in so we wondered if this might be a way of getting us over the problem, Mike can do web design and anything IT related so I guess he could do a business around that.
  5. Hi, could anyone tell me if a gite or B&B is a suitable business under the AE regulations and if so could this be in joint names? Thanks Pauline
  6. Thanks for that Paul, I totally understand what your saying, we are trying to get a plan together and will share some ideas with you all soon, just hope there not illegal!!
  7. He is and he's a love, he has spent the whole day ringing France, ringing here in the UK trying to resolve the situation, infact I am more confused than before

Thanks Rowan, very helpful, just didnt want to get it wrong at any stage.
  11. Thanks for your comments Gardengirl, can I just clarify, if I get a E106 and time it that my E121 kicks in at my retirement age (which I need to clariy) that I can get my top-up insurance and Mike can come on as my dependant even with his pre existing condition, (although he has been clear of his cancer for 2 yrs and the consultant has said the operation got all the cells with no spread. or does Mike have to have his own E106, hope this makes sense only I have got very confused.
  12. Well we will just have to continue to try and find a way round the problem before we give up a 3year dream. Sometime ago someone on the forum did a very good list of things to do following your move to France, it was user friendly and informative, right from day one step by step guide, I wondered if anyone could remember where it was on the forum.
  13. Well I am desperatly trying to stay positive but struggling to find a way around this situation, can we take out health ins and not have Mike covered for cancer related issues or prostate related issues, how have other people managed who have moved to France with a pre existing condition? I feel like putting a hold on the move! I appreciate you all taking time to comment, thankyou so much.
  14. Hey dont worry Sprogster, its better we sort this out now rather than later, I am just so confused thats all, just off to the vets to get the rabies booster for the dogs not me by the way!! then I will take time to understand the implications and what action if anything we can take.
  15. I know this topic has been covered so many times but Its Bank holiday and I have both dogs booked in for a booster rabies in our prep for moving to france this year and I am paranoid about getting it wrong. It shows on the passport they were vaccinated 07 valid to 08, then again 08 and it says valid to 2011, do they need doing 2010 or is this normal to have it last 2years? can anyone clarify for me please.
  16. Thanks Sprogster, I am going to forget the packing today and do some searching on the forum, what with health, pets, inheritance laws, my goodness its so complicated, maybe a move to Bournmouth might be easier!!!!
  17. Thanks sweet 17, I would appreciate her advice.
  18. Hi Sprogster, Mike is 56 and I am 57, we thought we would be able to get health insurance but not cover for anything related to his prostate or even cancer, am I wrong in thinking this?
  19. Hi Mel dont give up, we have spent 3years trying to sell our house in the uk, as part of our plan Mike took early retirment because the deal was to good to pass, then the housing market crashed and at the same time Mike was diagnosed with prostate cancer, he has had a radical prostatectomy, and doing great, still goes back for regular tests and we know it will have an impact on our health situation in France but hey these things are sent to try us as they say! I am counting the months before I am handing in my notice at work and enjoying our change of lifestyle in France, I situation we never thought would arrive, so like I say dont give up.
  20. Hi Mik Yes it is a lovely part of the country although there are very few places we didnt like. I would appreciate keeping in touch for local info if thats okay. I wonder if a pm would be better? Pauline
  21. Again thanks to you all for your comments and good wishes, we are considering renting but I worry it wont feel like home until we have our own place but we will definetly keep our options open. Pauline
  22. Thanks for your good wishes. I think the couple are really keen and fortunatly there is no chain just them and us, they have sold and with in laws and so I guess keen to move, they have their finances in place so fingers crossed. Oh my goodness where do we start!!!!I knew I should have kept up with the french classes I was just always bottom of the class at night school, even Michel Thomas isnt helping!!!
  23. Thanks Chrissie and Sweet 17, yes I am sure you will, I know I will have lots of questions, we are looking around South West of Toulouse, we like Bologne sur gesse but have an open mind at present. Its so exciting, only drawback is the family and grandchildren but we hope they will visit often.
  24. Hi I didnt know where to put this post but wanted to share our excitment with you all, we have been trying for 3 years to sell our uk home to move to France, I have spent all this time, reading, getting info from you all and generally doing my homework, I had almost given up and morale was flat with no light at the end of the tunnel, then BINGO today we got a buyer for our house so we are so excited, nervous and gobsmaked so all our previous planning, list making and question asking is about to pay off. Just thought I would share this with whoever reads my post. I am sure I will have hundreds of questions from now on. Yipppeeee. Pauline
  25. Thanks Bubbles, I have printed all the replies and spoke to my friend tonight, I will post the info tomorrow, much appreciated for people taking time to reply with the advice. Pauline
